I do have a paper saying Samuel came from Virginia, and his Mom's maiden name may have been, "Whitecotten".. Will let you know soon what I come up with.
Karen

Hello Karen: I am writing regarding your Samuel and Sarah Jane Price Mays of Upshur County, WV. My great, great grandfather Willis Mays from Amherst County, VA, also lived and died in Upshur County, WV. Willis had a son Henry born 1825 in Amherst but migrated to Upshur about the time of your Samuel (as I recall). Henry died before the 1870 census. I am assuming that they were acquainted and wonder if they could have been cousins. Any idea? Thanks

Hi, just was reading your long message on your Mays family. My GG-Grandparents were, Samuel and Sarah Jane Price Mays. They both were born in Virginia. Samuel was born in 1826 and Sarah Jane in 1827. Their daughter, Mary Elizabeth Mays DeBarr was my G-Grandmother. All three are buried in Upshur county, West Virginia..as you know WV.became a state in 1863. I will look into your Jesse E. Mays and see what I can find. Good luck on your searches.
Willis Mays - Born Nelson, Virginia - Died Monroe, Iowa

Looking for information on Willis Mays, born abt 1849 in Nelson, Virginia, died 02 Mar 1901 in Bluff Creek, Monroe, Iowa.

The LDS website shows his parents as Pompy Mays and Fanny Edmonds. He married Anna Colemen in 1877 (Augusta, Virginia) and Mary Irving in 1883 (Marshall, Iowa).

He was in Iowa by 1880, but I can't find him in the 1870 census (presumably Virginia). I'm assuming I wouldn't find him in the 1860 census since that was pre-emancipation.

Hoping that someone may be able to guide me.... Any ideas?

Hi Linda, I was born on January 22nd 1965. I do not have any information on Kenneth as he was never married to my mom and left 3 months after I was born. My mother refuses to tell me anything and all I have to work with is my birth certificate which says father was Kenneth Dean Mays who was born in Ohio. I was born in Oakland. I have been told by other family members that my father had 2 children from a previous marriage, a boy and a girl. Is Shirley Cox your mother? I have been contacted by her and she says she was Kenneth's first wife. I am a little overwhelmed to see that someone may actually know something about Kenneth. I would like to speak to you if you don't mind. I live in central California and my cell number is 559-593-3010 if you would like give me a call.

I still have his birth certificate and some pictures of him as a child and would be glad to give you copies. I probably am the only one left that knew his family and can give you that information. I would be glad to talk with you if you would like. My name is now Shirley Cox as I am remarried. I wait to hear from you.

I was born Linda Susan Mays on September 3, 1955 and have a brother, Gary Dean, who was born on October 5th, 1961. Soon after Gary was born my father left and we had almost no contact with him after that. Unfortunately, to my knowledge almost everyone in his family has passed on. I think Kenneth died in the early 90's. Our last reliable contact was with his sister Mary Helen who died in 1993. many of these facts I am just piecing together myself.
I am very curious about you and his life after he left. I know there was another child born around the time my brother was born. Was that you? I have thought about you many times over the years but had no idea how to make contact.

Go to Rootsweb.com Home Page. You can search for Henry Mays b. 1813 m.1. Sarah Taylor Rogers m.2.Ann Allen. You can search for Carl's father William Henry Mays b. 1853 m. Louise Carline Land. Good Luck.
Wayne
bevway@tds.net

So the bad news is that we are probably not related. I thought that I was related to this Carl William Mays and did a lot of research only to find out that my family stories were exagerated. I never did find a connection to him from my family. However, I did find a lot of info on him. He did have a sister "Ruth". I do not know who he married. I do not show that he had a brother named Paul.

Let me know if this helps.

Wes

Susan,

We could be related. My father(Paul K Mays)always told me that Carl Mays was a great uncle. My father passed away in 1990 and my mother won't share any information with me about his relatives. I know he was from New Jersey. I had or have an uncle Norman and aunt Ruth, but not sure which one was my father's sibling.

Do any of these names ring a bell to you?

Thank you,
I'm a Mays that live in NY (Buffalo,NY). I find it very interesting that every "Mays" I have come in contact with don't know who they are related to. The only 'Mays', I knew was my grandfather who was Willis Mays born in Atlanta, GA to a Will and Helen Mays.He did have brothers & sisters and the only names I knew where John & Robert Mays.
He (Willis) had two known children one of them was my father and he was born in Buffalo, NY. My grandfather Willis Mays lived in Cleveland, OH for most of his life; where he worked with the railroad. We do know of a relative name Harriet Holly of Cleveland, OH, who is said to be a cousin.
Hello Susan, I collect vintage baseball memorabilia. Might any members of your family have interesting items related to your great uncle's baseball career?
He had a great record and might have made it to the Hall of Fame if not for disagreements with other players and the press. He also was a teammate of Babe Ruth. Authentic items pertaining to his career would have significant value so if anyone is interested I would be thrilled to discuss.
Respectfully, Will Hays

I am looking for descendents of William Isaac and Amy H. Mays. I am the 2nd great grandson of William Isaac's sister, Molly Izora Mays. Molly and Isaac were born one year apart in Blount County, TN (of which I am a resident).
What I am looking for is information on Molly's husband, Albert Smalley McCollum. Molly died in 1909, leaving Albert with two very young children to raise (one being my gm, Hester Alice McCollum). By 1910, Albert left the children to be raised by his in-laws, Houston and Fannie Mays, and he was living in Ward 5 of Riverside County.
There were three other Mays brothers who also moved to Riverside.
I'm curious if there was a connection that was kept between Isaac/his brothers and Albert after the move from TN?
I would appreciate any help you can offer.
I am helping a friend with her family history, and she is stuck on Jesse B Mays, b. 1866, Pittsylvania. In 1870 he is living with John and Rachel Mays and Stacy, Tabitha, Jane and Liza Mays.

In 1880 he is a servant with Jesse Kelley family.

Thank you

William Mays/ Mary Mattox

I am working on this line at the time, and have noticed something that seems to be everywhere. William MAYS, born 1660 Bristol, VA; married Mary MATTOX, born 1662, Charles Cty, VA.

Parents of William are listed as John MAYS, born 1615; and Elizabeth NEWCOMB, born 1618. I am having no luck searching online records on ancestry, so am hoping that someone has clues on the board that will help.

If John Mays was born in 1615, that would make him 45 years old when William was born. Not uncommon, but - if his mother was born in 1618, that would make her 43, and that IS uncommon. Does anyone have any verified year of birth for John and Elizabeth?

Also, Elizabeth NEWCOMB MAYS is shown to have been born in 1618, and died in 1719. That would make her 101 years old.

There are several discrepancies I have found already with this line - is there anyone out there who is currently working on the MAYS and related families? Would like to hear from you! Thanks!

Patricia Quinn Meigs

Re: info anyone? Mays (Mayes) Thomas from Ireland

Hello dj. I realize it is a long time since you posted your message. Hope you have had luck with it.
I am looking to track MAY/MAYS/MAYSE all spellings found in our lot. Elizabeth MAYS emigrated to NZ with (presumably brothers) Alex & John, on the "Dover Castle" 1875. They were "from" Co.Tyrone, but their Father's name, Alexander, makes me wonder if they were Scots-Irish. Nothing more known about their history. She married Henry HINTON in NZ 1877 & they had 7 children. Bfn, Pauline.
