Stephen Maywood

I am attempting to find where my Great Grandfather Stephen disappeared to? Stephen was born in 1878 in Barkingside, Essex England. His parents were Stephen Maywood and Sarah Mack both born in Brarkingside Essex.

Through research and family history I have found that Stephen had two familes (that I am aware of!) at the same time and was not married to either woman (Gertrude Carloine Wagner & Nellie Springett - who was my Great Grandmother). It was 'believed' by both families that Stephen may have emmigrated to the USA in the early 1930's.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Again David,
We are indeed second cousins. I remember your dad very well, although I had not seen him in years. I do have some information on the Maywoods ( the name was changed from Magwood years ago). They were originally from England and then they went to Ireland--then to Canada---then to Michigan and finally to Pennsylvania. You also have another second cousin who is researching, she is your aunt Vie's daughter, Claudia. I am writing down your phone numbers and I will try to call you sometime when you are home. I am married and have two sons and almost 4 grandsons- my younger son has a baby due on October 6th. My name is Iris Jordan, 10118 White Oak Church Road, Wilsons, Virginia 23894. The phone number is 804-265-8423. Hope to talk to you soon. Iris

Maywood Family of Canada

I recently came across a handwritten page from my grandmother, Verna (Maywood) Rome. Her grandparents were Charles Maywood and Mary (Rice) Maywood. He was a farmer and Methodist preacher in Canada. Their children were Charles, James, Bertha, Hattie and William. Oldest son, Charles, married Katherine Thomas of Winnipeg and they had Clarence, Hazel (1896?), Kathleen, Rosemary, Maude (died in youth). Second son, James, married Mina (last name?) and their children were Harold (farmer in Peace River District), Mabel (nurse), Kathleen (nurse), Percy (farmer in Peace R. District, fought in WWI), Elsie (nurse), Orval (Methodist minister/farmer), Bertha (nurse), William (head of water dept in Princeton BC); Bertha Maywood married Albert Clark and they had Freddie (spelled Feddie in this paper?) buried in Flanders Field, May (teacher), Douglas (farmer), and Hattie Maywood who married a James who was a lawyer; William married Elizabeth Henry who died in 1898 and then he married Eliza McKenzie (died in 1936?) and Wm and Elizabeth had Verna (1896?), who married Fred Rome (1916) of USA and Olive who married Frank Carley.

Any one related to us out there?

I have a Charles Maywood who my family records say, "born in Belfast, Ireland where his family (father: Harold Maywood) emigrated from England. He and his sweetheart, Jane Pinkburn, eloped and left Ireland during the potato famine. They moved to Canada. That's all I "know" about them at this time.

You asked if we have Maywood relatives in Ireland. We definitely do and we have also found that the Maywood name was probably Magwood in Ireland and in Canada...and then some seem to have become Maywood and some Magwood. Interesting. Would love to hear what you have. Our Magwood/Maywood relatives possibly emigrated from England to Belfast Ireland and then moved to County Fermanagh, Ireland. We have definite proof of the County Fermanagh part, but oral history only on the England to Belfast part. Contact me. Lori Cherland-McCune

I am looking for information on the Maywood family who lived near Detroit Michigan. My great grandfather was Alexander Maywood who married Alma Rice. They had two children, Samuel and Vie. I understand that the family came to Michigan from Canada and that they were originally from England. I would like to have any information on the Maywood family in both Michigan and Canada. Thanks for any help. Iris Jordan
