Hi,

I don't know much about the McAllisters. I only knew of Delia and had a picture of her and her sister Kate. My grandmother was a close friend or maybe a relative. They visited back and forth between Ventura and San Francisco. I do have one snap shot of the them leaving the train station in Ventura.

Janice

I am also looking at this line. I have some info on the family, but not the parents. There is also a William McAllister that might be related to him, that lived close by, but haven't found the tie which could be my Great Great Grandparents. I was contacted by a professional genealogist that was also working on this line for a client, she will be going to Salt Lake soon for more info. Please contact me and we can share what info we have. Thank you. Bill Palmer uofm12001@yahoo.com

I do not know if there is a connection as McAllister was very common name in County Antrim. Alexander McAllister and his wife Catherine Moore settled in Bromley Township in Renfrew, Ontario, Canada. They had six childen : Ann, Mary, John, James, Catherine and Alexander. I know they were from County Antrim and Anglican. I have no idea about parents or when family emigrated. DNA is R1b1a2 (also called M269). We have a 37-exact match with a McAllister family who emigrated to USA.
I would be happy to share info. Barbara

I looked at the original message back from 2008 and I found out more info, thats why I was asking about your relatives. Here is my lineage that I have found so far.

Great Great Grand parents - William McAllister and Mary McCarron
Great Grand parents - Henry McAllister and Mary Anne Downs (1st), Margaret Russell (2nd)
Grandparents - William McAllister aka James McDonald and Aurore Leblanc.

Henry lived in Brooklyn. His children are Marjorie, Mary, Sally and William. Marjorie and Sally had no children. I met a 2nd cousin through Mary's line. Marjorie and Mary stayed in Brooklyn. Marjorie died about 1958. Henry's second marriage to Margaret Russell, looks like the children stayed in Brooklyn and possible their children. The whole McAllister line is Catholic. One of these years I might be able to make it to the municipal archives in Manhattan to do more research and try to find documents on all these people. I found someone that has Henry and Margaret in their tree, sent message but no response.

Thanks, Bill Palmer

His brother John Coumbs McAllister 1875-1948) who was married to Delia Bridget (Sullivan)McAllister. All my pictures of Hall McAllister was after he grew up. I would love to share info. I do not know anything about Decker McAllister. There were also other McAllister's in San Francisco including a famous Hall McAllister who I was told was an attorney (I have found no connection to him).

My branch of the McAllisters came from Bromley Township, Ontario, Canada. They were originally from County Antrim , Ireland. I have DNA results. We are R1b1a2(M 269)- one of the most common in Ireland and Scotland. Barbara McAllister Long

Hi Phil,

Think we corresponded about the McAlisters several years ago. Just wanted to let you know that using DNA testing for purposes of genealogy has changed a lot of things. The Clan McAlister of America has a surname project that's been active for several years. Look at FamilyTreeDNA.com and select McAlister project for more details. As you may know, CMA assigns family numbers to ancestors. Angus is A01; John of New Boston NH is J12; John of Northborough MA is J27; John of Bedford NH is not assigned a number since there are no records for him in our files. Descendents of A01 and J27 have been tested and are a very close match. The other two have not been tested. If we could do so, results would provide insight as to the New England families all being "near kin".

Hope you're doing well; I misplaced your email after our last contact, so was happy to see your posting here.

How did you find the name "Andres McAllister"? I have seen many references to it on the internet, but never been able to find anyone who could or would say how they found the name. Andres is supposed to be father of Angus. I have done some research in Ulster, but could find no connections there between Angus McAllister b circa 1672 and John McAlister b circa 1675. No mention in any Ulster records of Andes McAllister. Thanks for your help.

A few revisions for this post: the John McAlister mentioned was most likely not the son of Angus & Margaret Boyle. This John was born circa 1675 (not 1698). If Angus had son John b circa 1698, I can find no trace of him. Can anyone document John McAlister, b 1698? Janet Caldwell was first wife of John & Margaret Johnson was second wife. Also Archibald McAlister was son of John & not son of Angus; he is listed in John McAlister's will of 1769.

John McAllister (1833-1915) was my great-grandfather who married Elizabeth "Eliza" Coumbs (1850-1908). They moved to northern California and had five children. John worked as lumberman and a sailor. John and Eliza are buried in Cypres Lawn Cemetery in San Mateo County, California, USA.

There were quite a few McAllisters from northern Ireland. I have NOT located an proven family but have a 37 exact match on DNA with McAllisters who settled in USA a generation before my family left Ireland. Barbara

I don't think we are related. We think Samuel was born about 1831 and immigrated early 1850's to Frontenac County (near Kingston). He married and had three children in Ireland before coming over. It sounds like Alexander was born many years before Samuel, who was also listed as Methodist. It may be they were family somewhere along the way, but I have no information from Ireland to support any speculation. None of the children's names coincide with any of my relatives, either. Thanks anyway.
I do NOT know if our families are connected. My second great-grandfather was Alexander McAllister (1800-1853) who married Catherine Moore (1803-1887). They were both from County Antrim, Ireland. Children were Ann Wilcox(McAllister), Mary Briton (McAllister), John McAllister, James McAllister, Catherine Vaughn (McAllister) and alexander McAllister. Alexander McAllister and Catherine Moore settled in Bromley Township (Douglas) in 1828. They were members of Anglican Church. They could have had family who moved with them to Ontario Canada but I haven't established any connections. I'm willing to exchange info if this sounds family.

I have a fairly extensive family tree from my Great Grandfather Samuel McAllister, but we do not know where he came from in Ireland nor where he is buried in Frontenac County Ontario. His wife, Mary Ann Sunderland, was last noted as living with her eldest daughter, (Sarah) Elizabeth in 1911 in Kingston, Ontario, but we do not know when she died nor where she is buried. They had twelve children (approximately) some of whom moved to Manitoba, Montana, Michigan and New York State. I would be happy to share information.

Her father was Thomas McAllister bMar.1819 in Ohio, His father was Walter S. McAllister b about 1790? and I believe his wife's name was Catherine Whan.
McAllister from Wisconsin

I'm looking for a James McAllister from Madison, Dane county, Wisconsin. James was born in 1828 in Ireland and died 1916 near Decatur, Nebraska. He had came to the US about 1850. He had also served in the Wisconsin Infantry during the Civil War. James was then stationed in Decatur, Burt county, Nebraska after the War. He was part of the GAR there in Nebraska. He married Ida Van Brunt about 1881. James and Ida had the following children; James, Frank, William, Dewey, Grace, and Nellie.

There was a James McAllister listed in the Dane county, Wisconsin 1860 census in the town of Rutland. This James and mine share about the same information as to when they had been born and came to the US. The James in Rutland was married to a Jane (who had later married a Mr. Johnson about 1965) and had a daughter named Mary (who was born in New York about 1851). On my James I don't know if he was married before Ida. I'm quessing that he could have been because he was in his 50's when he had married his wife.

I'm wondering if the two James McAllister are the same person. And if they are does anyone have any more information on Mary McAllister and her parents.

Update 2011:

I believe the two James above are the same person.

Based on James death certificate he was born 6 Oct 1831 in County Kerry, Ireland. His parents were Dennis McAllister and Margaret Murphy. I don't have any information on Dennis.

Margaret Murphy was born abt 1800 in Ireland. She died 26 Oct 1888 in Burt Co., Nebraska. Her second spouse was William Powers.

William Powers was born abt 1800 in Ireland. He died 20 Jan 1887 in Burt Co., Nebraska.

Based on stories, Margaret and William supposely lived in Winconsin at the same time as James. I have not been able to confirm that yet.

I did find a possible boat record for James and his mother along with another child.

Ship: Boreas
Passenger embarkment: New Ross
Date: 9 May 1849
Passengers: Power Margaret (born: 1800/1), Power James (born: 1831/2), Power Micheal (born: 1835/6)
*note: I believe William may have came earlier to the USA and Margaret was joining him with the two boys. I have no other information on Micheal. I don't know if he is Powers' kid or McAllister's.

James' first spouse was Jane Lowry (or similar spelling). Their daughter Mary Ann had died after 1885 in Wisconsin. She had married Hiram Baker 16 Mar 1881 in Oregon, Dane, Wisconsin. They only had 1 child. Eva Jane Baker was born Jul 1882 in Dane Co., Wisconsin.

Hello - I just saw your post (over 7 years later.)

Did you ever find more information about your John McAllister, who lived in Waupaca County, Wis.? I'm a descendant of that McAllister clan who came from Ireland (County Antrim - Belfast, I'm led to believe) to Salem, Washington Co., New York and then on to Waupaca County (and beyond.)

Your John McAllister, b. abt 1835, County Antrim, was an older brother to a maternal g-g grandmother of mine: Jane McAllister who married Samuel D. Pinkerton. I believed John paid the ship's passage for Jane to emigrate.

I remember some favorite 1st cousins of my maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Barrington Knight (Waupaca), who were daughters of Frank Chady and his 2nd wife, Mary Ann (Minnie) McAllister (the sister of Frank's 1st wife, Rachel E. McAllister): Hazel Chady Baldauf and Margaret Chady Nottingham.

I hope to hear from you.

A McAllister cousin -
Jean E. DeLauche

obit - Charles G. MCALLISTER, 1920 PA - 2011 CA

CHARLES G. McALLISTER | not related - for board info

CHARLES G. McALLISTER Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania August 19th 1920, Charles Greene McAllister was known to friends and loved ones as Mac. The shortening of the name in no way diminished the man. His premature grey hair added to his good looks, and his ready smile conveyed a sense of congeniality that all who knew him enjoyed. He loved poetry and could recite from memory many of the poems he learned in high school. He also loved to sing, and did so every chance he got. He knew the lyrics to songs that were all but forgotten, and could recall them at a moments notice. He, also, loved dogs, especially Suzie one, two, and three. The death of each one broke he and Estella's hearts. He enjoyed flowers and plants of almost any kind, and could over-water or under-water almost anything and it thrived. He had that special touch that most of us wish we had. However, the greatest love of his life was his cherished wife, the beautiful Estella. They were married for 48 years before his death Saturday, November 5th in Apple Valley where he was a resident for 24 of those years. And, of course, he was a man who loved his sports, especially football, but the World Series of baseball was, of course, a close second. His family meant everything to him and he to them. He felt a great love for his children: Steven McAllister and wife Mary, Brian McAllister, Mark Lewis, Tere Kidd and husband Hugh, and Linda Bitney and husband David. He was and is, cherished by grandchildren: Jennifer Lewis and partner Jodi, Dustin Lewis, Peter Bitney, Sarah Stewart and her husband Michael, Jon Brown and his wife Tabitha and, of course, his many great grandchildren: Donald Palmer, Mark Palmer, Chelsea Palmer, and Emily Palmer, Christian Stewart, Joshua Stewart, Jon Stewart, Rebekah Stewart, and Steven Lewis, Abigail Lewis, Karly Lewis, Isaiah Lewis, Andrew Lewis, and Lily Lewis. He placed great stock in his love for family and God. He had said there was only one perfect person and we crucified Him. Particularly, proud of his work on Apollo 4, he loved to regale family and friends with stories of his time spent on that project. A true patriot he served 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, serving in WWII and Korea. His name is engraved on the National Air Force Memorial in Washington, D.C. Viewing and services will be held on Friday beginning with a viewing from 10-11 AM. Service at 11:00 AM at the Roy Rogers Dale Evans Chapel at Sunset Hills, 24000 Waalew Road, Apple Valley, CA 92307. Pastor Steeve Areseneault will be officiating. Interment will be at Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, California Sunset Hills Memorial Park and Mortuary is handling arrangements. Updated service information and on line guest book are available at sunsethills.cc

Published in the Daily Press from November 11 to November 21, 2011

1877 Memorial Notice of John McAllister, Jr - Pennsylvania

I recently purchased a bunch of old paper items. One of the items is an article from the 1878 Pennsylvania Magazine noting the memorial notice of John McAllister, Jr. that was read before the Historical Society of Pennsylvania on January 14, 1878. It reads in part - "John McAllister died on December 17th, 1877 at the age of 91 years old, 5 months, and 18 days. Mr. McAllister was admitted into this Society on March 26th, 1828. His father, John McAllister, was a native of Scotland, who came to this country just before the Revolution. John Jr. was born on June 29, 1786 in Philadelphia on the northeast corner of Market and Second Streets. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a seat in science in 1803. In 1804 he entered into the counting-house of Montgomery & Newbold (merchants). In 1811 he entered into business with his father - John McAllister & Son. In 1835 he handed the business over to his own sons." There is much more information in the article.

If this is one of your ancestors, please contact me.

Randy
Webster, Texas

John McAllister was my great-granfather; John McAllister May 18, 1833 died Sep 15, 1911 married Elizabeth Eliza Coumbs daughter of Sampson Coumbs and Grace Cole. Eliza was born March 25, 1850 in Ontario Canada and died June 28, 1908 in San Mateo County, California. I will be happy to share any information.
Thank you for very much. I also checked out the website with the kate McAllister and Lillian that looked like your photo. I couldn't find close relation. However, the 12 match DNA we have on McAllister surname project the McAllister's came to US through Pennysvannia. The DNA was with 4 generations of my father and uncle. I'll keep you posted whatever I else find. Barbara
