I have done a little bit of research on this family. Thomas wife Rebecca's maiden name was Grattan I believe. I know the family is is Scrantan in 1880 but in 1900 you will find some of them in New York City. Thomas and Rebecca died there. I am interested in wht happened to their son Thomas. He married Annie Fitzpatrick in Manhattan around 1895 and they had two daughters, Annie married Walter Housman and Mary E. I have been unable to find what happened to Mary E. Hope thi helps. Good luck to you>

Hi everyone,
I am researching my husband's family tree he is the grandson of Theresa McAndrew (1916-2007), great grandson of Martin McAndrew (1885-1977) and according to other members of this website great great grandson of Martin McAndrew (passed 1888) married to Bridget Garvey. I am looking for additional info to confirm his great great grandfather and also looking for siblings of Martin McAndrew (1885-1977) so I can continue to add in to his tree. I would love to share with those related the tree of Theresa McAndrew with kids, grandkids, greatgrandkids.
Thanks
Elisa

I am doing the family tree for my husband's family. I am not sure if there is relation to either Mary McAndrew that you are both related too (Mary McAndrew born 1851) but just thought it was interesting that he is McAndrew (Martin McAndrew born 1848 Ireland) on his mom's side but there is Farrell (Andrew Farrell born 1850 Ireland)on his dad's side. Seems these two last names were common.

Hi, Nadine -- Thanks for replying to my post. Since I posted in 2002, I have barely any more information than I did then. According to papers filed in Lackawann County by her husband, William Farrell, she died around 1888 and did not leave a will.

In the 1860 and 1870 census, Mary McAndrew Farrell and her husband William, were living in Blakley Township (Archbald - Olyphant) PA in Lackawanna County.

At this point, it's hard to say if there is a connection between our McAndrews. My Mary McAndrew Farrell was born in Ireland about 1835 or so.

I'm sorry this is all I have to offer right now.

Jamie

We believe William McAndrew was born in Scotland. We know he immigrated to Texas to fight in the Civil War and settled in central Georgia at The Rock and at Macon. He left photos of his mother. His daughter left photos of Uncle Jim McAndrew and Uncle Jim's family who lived in Union Springs, Alabama. Whether Uncle Jim was her father's Uncle or his brother we do not know. Attached is access to a photo gallery of these people. http://www.kodakgallery.com/gallery/sharing/shareRedirectSwi...
If anyone has any information, please contact me.
Jay Dorsey in Atlanta

Re: Seeking Descendants of McAndrew Immigrants to America from Bellmullet, County Mayo, Ireland ... c 1865

My ggrandfather John McAndrew came over from Belmullet around 1880. He was born abt. 1861. He settled in Centralia, PA with my ggrandmother Margaret Lavelle McAndrew. His father was Anthony McAndrew. His mother was Sabina Mills McAndrew. His obituary mentions a sister Bridget. My grandfather was born in Centralia around 1888. His name was Anthony McAndrew. The family moved from Centralia to Scranton, PA around 1890.

I had some research done by the Mayo Family History Centre in Ireland regarding ancestors from Belmullet. It mentions a Bartholomew McAndrew (b.1841), son of Anthony McAndrew. He married a Mary Gaynard in 1861. They had four children Biddy (b. 1862), Anthony (b. 1863), Anne (b. 1866) and Mary (b. 1866). As a widower Bartly may have married a Bridget Cannon in 1890. They had three children Mary (b. 1891), Catherine (b. 1895) and Michael (b. 1898). Bartly McAndrew may have been my ggrandfather's brother.

Mary McAndrew, daughter of Anthony McAndrew, was born around 1854. She married a Francis Barrett in Belmullet in 1876. It mentions one child, Thomas Barrett, born in 1877. His baptismal sponsors were Anthony McAndrew and Biddy Barrett(formerly McAndrew?). Mary McAndrew Barrett may have been my ggrandfather's sister.

Joe McAndrew

Dear Jerry,

Many thanks for your reply listing numerous McANDREW men who died or were injured in mining accidents. Yes, I'd put a high rate of probability on your listing for ARTHUR McANDREW, d 13 Mar 1888 (Preston #2, N217 57) as possibly our Arthur. I will do a little more digging myself on this death date. Let's see what we come up with.

Then, we speculate that his brother THOMAS F. McANDREW was likely the one listed as having died on 15 Jun 1874 (Preston F 13 55). You have another entry for Thomas McAndrew same death date Preston F 105 55, but I don't know if that's another chap same name or simply another entry referring to the same accident.

Our Girardville, PA Thomas McANDREW (son of Michael (b 1830 Crossmolina, Co. Mayo, Ireland) and Jane (Derry) McANDREW) definitely died in the Schuylkill County mines. My great-grandmother told my father that several men carried his body home (Girardville, PA) on an old wooden door and dropped him at the front door. I suppose that was better treatment than many got who tragically were never carried home.

Can you provide any specifics about these fatalities? I will send off for their death records, if they are available. Please feel free to contact me at stella33@verizon.net. Again, thanks so much. Mary

I have a copy of that 1851 census. I believe that this John McAndrew is brother to my Gt.Gt grandfather Michael McAndrew, who lived in the next household with his wife Barb and a whack of kids. Actually when I looked at the original I realized that some of John and Mary's kids had been shifted to Michael and Barb. There parents were Anthony McAndrew and Sarah or Sally Davitt. Sally may, according to my grandmother have come from Mayo, Ireland with 6 or 7 sons and several daughters. I have found two other brothers and one, perhaps two sisters.I would like to hera from you.

John P. McAndrew and Agnes Deasy McAndrew

John and Agnes marry around 1920 in Marquette MIchigan I believe as that is her home. She is 25 born in Michigan, one of 6 children at that time. John P. is one of at least 8 children of Peter and Rose McAndrew in Erin Prairie St. Croix County Wisconsin. JOhn and Agnes have two of their 3 sons in Erin Prairie and then move to St. Paul where they live out the rest of their lives. Can someone help me here? I need to know when and where for sure they were married. Have I got the right birth family for JOhn? and for goodness sake what is it with his birthdate? He goes up and down at least 30 years per document! He dies in St. Paul in 1942 and is buried at St. Patrick's in Erin Prairie Agnes dies in 1966 and is buried next to JOhn in Erin Prairie. Agnes nee Deasy is a cousin to Thomas ANthony Welch a bishop of Duluth Minnesota so this is all a matter of getting my research double checked and then written up and then put away. Thanks for the help! These are rather eccntric people, and have ben quite fun to hunt down.

My grandfather came from Aberdeen, Scotland. He and his father, George Douglas McAndrew, worked on the Old Meldrum railroad. Robert went to Canada in 1921 after he and my grandmother married in 1920. They eventually settled in Hartford CT. I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who might have information on this McAndrew line.

Bob Paine

I have no idea if we are researching the same McAndrew line. My great-great grandfather was Thomas McAndrew (b. 19 Jan 1861/d.20 Mar 1928)

I can't get back any further in time reliably.

My great-great grandfather married margaret Glavey abt 1881. At the time, Margaret was living in Frackville, PA. Frackville, Girardville, West Mahanoy, etc. (to name just a few of the Schuylkill Towns) were all in the same area. Right now I have found a James McAndrew and spouse Mary who may be Thomas' parents, but am unsure.

Family stories say my great-great grandfather is related to Frank mcAndrew of Molly Maguire history, but totally unverified.

Some of my McAndrew relatives were from the Pottsville area.

Don't know if this helps? Check out my public tree.

The following is taken from The People’s Journal (Aberdeen, Scotland), dated Saturday, April 30, 1892. I have no known connection to the family but I have replicated the article here in case it is of interest to anyone else.

DEATH OF A CRAIGELLACHIE CENTENARIAN

Mrs McAndrew died at Craigellachie on the 20th inst., at the great age of 103 years. Deceased lived at Pittendreich until she was 92, when she went to reside at Craigellachie with her married daughter, who is the wife of Mr Anderson, Inspector of Permanent Way on the Great North Railway. According to her death certificate she was the daughter of William Anderson, General Labourer and Jane Anderson ms Barber who were married 24 June 1777, Drainie, Morayshire.

I was unable to find a date for the marriage of Isabella and Alexander McAndrew (b.c. 1789 died 29 October 1824, age 35), however according to the IGI their children were:

William McAndrew, baptised 15 October 1812, Duffus, Morayshire;
Alexander McAndrew, born 30 December 1814; baptised 5 January 1815, Duffus, Morayshire;
Isobel McAndrew, born 17 September 1817; baptised 20 September 1817, Duffus, Morayshire (married Alexander Anderson, Railway Inspector 20 March 1851, Elgin; died 1893);
Ann McAndrew, born 12 August 1820; baptised 20 August 1820, Elgin, Morayshire;
James McAndrew, born 29 October 1822; baptised 10 November 1822, Elgin, Morayshire; and
Andrew McAndrew, born 22 January 1825; baptised 29 January 1825, Elgin, Morayshire.
Replying to your message board on Roots Web 2003. Hope you are still searching! I am looking for CARLIN family members who were neighbors to Martin, MIchael and John Mc Andrew at Grenville with their farms located about 10 miles north of the township. The top of my Bucket List is to find where these families came from in Ireland. Do you have any clue?
James Carlin (or CARLING) came in 1835 and he had a son, Thomas who married Mary STONE. I have found the eldest son of James, Terrance, who bought property at Mulgrave. He was my Great-grandfather. Others have written to me and I do find connections. My best resource is Eddie Stone who still lived at Lachute.

I am the son of Vincent and Ruth's eldest daughter - Mary Ruth Neary. My aunt Susan borrowed a book from her cousin (I think) that had loads of information. I went to visit her a few years ago to find McAndrew, and Gallagher relatives at a local cemetery in Avoca - St. Mary's I believe. I don't know if my info will help you any but this is what I have:

Vincent James (b. 11-23-1907 d. 12-29-04) married to Ruth Marie Gallagher  (b. 10-09?-1909 d. 07-??-2003)
Vincent descends from Edward (07-1879) & Mary McDonnell McAndrew (02-1885)
Edward is son of Owen McAndrew (04-1840) & Bridget Flanagan McAndrew (05-1850)
Mary McDonnell is daughter of James McDonnell (04-1855) & Bridget McDonnell (02-185)

Ruth Marie Gallagher descends from John Joseph Gallagher (06-1868) & Delia Lavin Gallagher
John J. Gallagher is the son of James Gallagher and Catherine Hefferon Gallagher.
Delia Lavin is the daughter of Michael Lavin and Mary Flannery Lavin (02-1842)

I still don't know where in Ireland any of these people come from, so I am unable to find Hefferon, Flannery, Flanagan, or other Lavins, McDonnells, Gallaghers and McAndrews. Hope this does some good.

Do you happen to know your grandfather Edward McAndrew's parents' names, where they lived? I have an Edward born in Schuylkill County around 1870s (further back, I know) and his parents moved them out of Pottsville to parts yet unknown around 1875. I lose them. I believe he had a brother Robert, Frank and a sister Elizabeth McAndrew. Their father (my gggrand-uncle), Patrick Frank McAndrew, b abt 1830, was clerk in the Schuylkill County Mining Inspection Office and helped pen the first (1869) mining inspection book/report. Father Patrick born in Crossmolina, Co. Mayo, married an Agnes from Canada. Their children mentioned above were all born in PA. Mary W.

I am the son of Cyril McAndrew. The brothers are Vincent, Edward, James, and their sister Mary McDonald. I lived in Northern Virginia for 35 years then we moved to Texas. It is great to hear someone knows something about my McAndrew family. You need to unpack the information you have. I was told that Vincent's family had all the history. I was tracing my grandfather Edward McAndrew (his wife was Mary McAndrew Dorn) up in New York state. Then ran into a brick wall trying to follow the family back to Ireland. Would like to hear more from you.
