McBee pictures

Taking a shot in the dark. Would anyone by chance have any photos of Samuel and Anna's children or grandchildren? I have some tintypes of unidentified people who I've been told are probably McBee family members but no one is sure who. Thought maybe we could see some resemblance in some of them. Since tintypes were only around for a certain number of years, I could maybe determine the age of these people and maybe put a name to them. Crazy idea but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. Thank you. I would appreciate any help.

Just so you know. William McBee and Mary Ann Cox did have a son named Lemuel [not Lamuel], born about 1782. Lemuel was named in the will of his father William, 21 Apr 1843. Lemuel married 22 Jan 1806, in Jefferson Co, TN to Sarah Meek. They had at least eleven children: Martha "Patsy", Mary Ann, William C., Adam H., Isaac M., Ganum Cox, Lemuel J., Milo, Daniel M., Callaway, and James A. McBee. This Lemuel died 23 May 1843, apparently in Grainger Co TN since his will was filed there. He was in Knox Co TN for the 1830 and 1840 censuses. His will and estate settlement name the children. Obviously this is not your person of interest.

The only thing that I have found is from a Barbour County History book stating that Hezikiah was the father of William. This is only as accurate as the guy who wrote it though. I'm working on trying to find a death cert for William, though I've read that others have not had any luck. I am descened from Lee Roy's son Ira "Chick" and Vesta.

Hi, Can you tell me what documentation you have found that proves William is the son of Hezikiah and Mamie Carl? How are you descended from Lee Roy? I have a cousin who is also descended from Lee Roy, and stories passed down in her family suggests that William was descended from Zadock McBee. If you can provide me with sources of your information, I'd be forever in your debt! Thank you, Jill Bolton

Tried to send you an email to the suggested email address but it is was rejected by your server. I did a Google search for 'silas mcbee editor newspaper" and found that Silas McBee's papers are at the University of North Carolina Libraries. Silas McBee was editor of the The Churchman and The Constructive Quarterly publications of the Episcopal church. Also found a a very brief bio of Silas McBee at genealogy site that had Autobiographical information for Lincoln County, North Carolina people.

Silas McBee (1853-1924), son of Vardry Alexander McBee (1818-1904)

Looking for information on Silas McBee, son of Vandry Alexander McBee. Silas McBee was the seventh child of Vandry Alexander McBee (1818-1904) and Mary E Sumner. Silas McBee was born on 14 Nov 1853 in Lincolnton, North Carolina and died on 2 Sept 1924 in Charleston, South Carolina. I have found Silas with his parents on Lincolnton in the 1860 and 1870 USA census. The next census I have found Silas in is the 1920 census in North Hempstead, Nassau, New York with his second wife Louise Post and his son by his first marriage Silas McBee, Jr. Silas McBee's first wife was Mary Estelle Sutton, born 6 Oct 1854 in Jackson, Mississippi and died on 15 Jun 1891 in perhaps Sewanee, Tennessee. I am looking for any marriage records for Silas and any information on Silas and his family in the 1880, 1900, and 1910 USA census. My interest in Silas McBee is because of his daughter Emma Estelle McBee, born 9 Jul 1878 in Monteagle, Tennessee and died on 4 Apr 1964 in Charleston, South Carolina. I remember Miss Estelle fondly as a small boy in Charleston. Miss Estelle's younger sister Mary Vardrine McBee (1879-1965) was the founder in 1909 in Charleston of the Ashley Hall preparatory school for girls. Miss Estelle was the Assistant Head Mistress of Ashley Hall. Census records show Silas McBee as the editor of a newspaper. The McBee sisters younger brother Silas McBee, Junior who was born on 26 Jun 1887 in Monteagle, Tennessee. It is believed that Silas, Junior's wife Corina was from South America, perhaps Venezuela.

Re: Lemuel McBee

Lemuel McBee, son of william McBee and Mary Ann Cox, was apparently not your ancestor. William did have a son named Lemuel but he's not the same man. Much of the McBee data found online has errors. You may examine my database here:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~katy/mcbee...

The Will of William:
Knox Co TN, Estate Bk 4, p.136
Will of William McBee written 22 Jul 1822, probate Apr 1826
Names wife Mary Ann; youngest son Gainum C. McBee
Oldest dau Waters [could this name have been Walters?] and her children William, John Gainum, Samuel & Sarah Ann
Eldest son Lemuel McBee
2nd daughter Betsy Ann, youngest daughter Abigail
Deaf & dumb grandson, Gainum Frazer.
Wit: William Cox, William Brazleton

Lemuel married Sarah Meek, 22 Jan 1806, Jefferson Co, TN. He is found in the 1830 and 1840 Censuses in Knox Co, TN.
They did not have a daughter Sarah. There is no probate date for his will written 21 Apr 1843, but the return of his Inventory was in July of 1843. I have seen his death as 23 May 1843, but have no substantiation for that. Lemuel and his parents are said to be buried in Eastern Knox Co, McBee family cemetery.

Wills and Settlements
Grainger Co TN 1839-1847
LDS #0464102
p.675/255
Will
Lemuel McBee of Granger, TN, formerly of the County of Knox.
1st My beloved wife Sarah McBee all the tract of land I now live on together with the tract I bought from Samuel Gill & Diannah Y.
The online database is not entirely correct. My grandmother, Hazel Minton, born 1-7-1922, was the daughter of Robert McBee and Verdie Stubblefield. Robert had siblings Porter, Maggie, Nell, Alice and some others I cannot think of right now and I don't have my paperwork with me. Charles was born 11-3-1917. His father was Tilmon Minton. My grandparents did marry on 12-11-37. I hope this helps. Thank you!

I'm also a researcher of the McBees in Tennessee. I'm a bit puzzled. Online databases show that the father of Hazel McBee [b. 1922] who married Charles H. Minton, 1937, Pineville KY, was the daughter of Burton Melvin McBee and Verdie Stubblefield, not the daughter of a Robert McBee. This line goes back several generations to Isaac McBee who married Sarah E. Grubb - Isaac was a son of Samuel McBee and Anna Hamilton. I didn't find a Robert McBee anywhere in this line.
Could there have been two Hazels and two Charles Mintons? Doesn't seem likely.

Yes. His second wife was Nora as Verdie died (3-23-1922)as a result of complications with birthing my grandmother, Hazel. I am unaware of Robert ever going by any other name than Robert. That is puzzling...I am still very interested to view the documents you mentioned in your first post. Thank you!

I see what went wrong with the online database. For unexplanable reasons, in the 1930 Census in Claiborne Co TN, your grandfather Robert was listed as Melvin B. McBee, wife Nora [a 2nd wife as Verdie had died] and daughter Hazel, age 8. Living next door to his parents and younger siblings. In 1920 with his family, he had been enumerated as Robert [in 1910 as Burton] and Findagrave.com has a photo of his grave marker, Thompson Chapel Cemetery - plainly Robert McBee. It's a joint marker with Verdie. Nora buried elsewhere in the same cemetery as "Wife of Bob McBee".
Interesting, what was going on with the name, but he obviously settled on Robert!

Missouri McBees and DAR

I am the granddaughter of Harriett Elizabeth McBee Ficke. I am trying to trace my pedigree back to the Revolutionary War on the McBee side in order to provide myself with an ancestor who would be acceptable to Daughters of the American Revolution as a patriot. I am already a DAR member, but I would like to have more ancestors tied to my name. Any information you might have would be greatly appreciated.

I have replied to Gwen. I am trying to find a McBee patriot for DAR. There are three listed at the DAR library: Hannah Echols and Vardry; Israel; and Silas. There are no Mockbees or Magbys listed. Does anyone have a pedigree back to a Revolutionary War patriot in the James McBee line...or better yet, a DAR number? Thanks!!

Re: McBee Family

In the very first post to you I put my website:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~katy/
There is a link on that page to the McBees under the families of my husband. He was descended from Seletha, daughter of William & Abigail McBee. I have researched the McBees for the past fifteen years - my notes and sources can be found on the webpages. If you visit my website, there will be a link direct to my email address and we can take this off the list.

It is also important that you visit here:
Gwen Boyer Bjorkman has a WorldConnect file "Descendants of Matthew Mockbee of Prince George's Co, Maryland"
http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?d...
Gwen has done a terrific job of researching the Mockbees in Maryland. She also maintains the McBee mail list and the DNA test database.

When you are surfing the web - if the material has no sources listed ....beware. Consider it possibly a suggestion, but no more, until you can confirm by actual documentation.

My genealogy software lets me automatically develop webpages to post - no brainer. Most ISPs allow you to have some webspace. One way you can post research images without going to the trouble of maintaining a webpage, is to post the images with descriptions on a photo site such as Flickr.
