I am starting my lineage search. My grandfather, Edward McCafferty, was born in Akron, Ohio in Nov. 1923. He had 1 brother (Frank) and 2 sisters (Betty and Margaret). His father, Francis McCafferty, was born in Boston, I think, and married a lady with the last name of Kelley. From the information I can gather, she came right off the boat from Ireland.

Does anyone know of a good place to start searching for information?

Figure the year (within 10 if possible) in which your grandfather was born and the year in which he most likely married. This url will take you to the Massachusetts State Archives page. http://www.sec.state.ma.us/arc/arcres/residx.htm

The birth and marriage (and death if he died in Boston) certificates will be on file at the archives. I believe for a fee researchers there will be able to look up the information you request. That info will tell you who his parents were. Once you have that information you can begin to research obituary notices for your grandparents and great-grandparents which may tell you where in Ireland your grandmother was born and where your great-grandpaarents originated.. It is unlikely that your grandmother had naturlaization papers filed if she married your grandfather shortly after arriving here. If she was here for awhile she may have. The majority of women however, did not.

Hello, Not sure if your still interested as much time has gone by since you inquired. Francis Mccafferty husband of Elizabeth Kelley was born in Woburn Ma. in 1899 died in Ohio . Son of Catherine Lennon and William Mccafferty both born in Ireland. He had a brother George and 2 sisters , Anna (Gott) born in Woburn Ma. died in St. Petersburg Fl.and Mary (Stamegna) Born in Woburn Ma. died in Melrose Ma. Francis McCafferty was the son of William McCafferty and Catherine Lennon. Catherines mother Mary Farrey Lennon was my grandfather James H Farrey's sister. I would be interested in any info you have on the Lennon or McCafferty families.
