Marg,

I am researching the McCanns from Armagh to Mayo to Ontario, Canada.

I have four brothers: Peter, b. 1821; John, b. 1826; Arthur, b. 1828; and Patrick, b. 1831. They all immigrated and lived in Hibbert, Perth County, Ontario. Two of the brothers were in the 1851, 1861, 1871 census in Hibbert. Those were John and Arthur.

On the 1851 census, Patrick was living with the family (he was about 20) but the last census he was marked in the U.S. Peter was with a wife Mary in Hibbert, but after that census, I have not been able to find either Patrick or Peter for sure.

In the late 1880s, Arthur moved his family to North Dakota.

Have you found anything more about this family? Could you share the letter that you have?

Thanks,

Joni

Unfortunately we have no information about our lineage prior to Horatio Judd McCann who died in a blizzard in Saratoga Wyoming. Wife named Lydia Groseclose McCann. She had William McCann, Lewis McCann, Jacob McCann, Francis "Fannie" McCann fathered by Horatio Judd McCann. The lineage stops with him. As I said all of the older McCanns that have since passed away seem to think they had Indian blood? Cannot find any records of Horation Jud McCann.

Hello I'm hoping someone knows information about John and Mary Mccann. They were born in Ireland, and immigrated to Ohio. Moved to Fall River Massachusetts. The children I know are Catharine 1843, Rosanna 1842, Mary 1840, John 1838, and Sarah 1830. Sarah married Michael Trainor. I think I am missing some siblings. I would love to know where in Ireland they came from. Sarah is who I'm directly related too. Also at some point John went Blind. Any and all information would be great. Thanks Jackie

Hi, Do you know if Ballyhawly (SP) is in County Mayo? The McCanns who were in Armagh were thrown out right after the Battle? of the Diamond. That's where the saying To Hell or Connaught came from. After that battle, the Protes. went after the Catholics. Most of them went to County Mayo until their immigration. I will get back into this in a day or two and check some names.

Joni

Arthur McCann and most of his family moved to North Dakota around 1885 or so so they had a lot of U.S. connections.

Joni

Joni, I am sorry to report that Eve McCann has passed away. She lived in Oregon and I live in Nevada. She passedin 2006 and I do not have any of her DNA info except that her husband Donald McCann's DNA had a perfect match with a Murray in Canada? I dont know where to go from here. We have never found where Horatio Judd McCann came from, or who he came from. He was married to my Great Grand mother Lydian Groseclose McCann. He froze to death in a blizzard in Laramie Wyoming when he was 27. No information has ever been discovered of his origin. My Grandfather always mentioned his father had jet black hair and dark black eyes. That's it! If you can be of any help I would surely appreciate it. Sue Pam

I don't know if you are still out there doing research. I am sorry to report that Eve passed away. I can't believe it, but it is true. She is gone now and I am trying to pick up the pieces she left behind. We were all trying to find the lineage for Horatio Judd McCann. He froze to death in a blizzard in Wyoming in the 1800's...he was my Great Grand father. My Grandfather, tho very young when he lost his father described his jet black straight hair, and dark black eyes. All the older relatives that have long since passed all seemed to think we had Indian blood? I am wondering if you did any more research on the McCann line?
Sue Pam

"Mack" is likely a nick name, and in My McCann Family "Mack' was often mis-written as Mick and Mark. The Mack McCann in my family was a Mathew McCann who apparent was born in Northern Ireland and went to Glasgow Scotland, where his son James was born. James came to the USA and was a shirt maker, in Troy NY and North Adams, Mass, as well as Missouri (1861) and Ontario, Canada, (1865). He worked for P J Boland&Son In North Adams Mass. then later bought it out. James died in California.

Thanks for trying anyway.
Yes i have noticed there are a lot of McCanns, even when i do come accross McCanns in Lanarkshire in late 1800 and early 1900 it seems that there was more than just 1 set of McCanns living there.
Its really hard as the trees which seem to have my relations on are all private trees and im getting nowhere with people replying to my personal messages!
I wish I could help--but the only John McCann I have is my grandfathers brother--who was born/stayed in Ireland. the only brother who left Ireland to go to Scotland was Patrick and his date of birth was around the later 1880's-1890's. There are lots of McCann's as you probably found out..if you can get more information, i would check with Church of Latter Day Saints as they have quite alot of genealogy information.sorry i couldn't be of more help! Good luck with your research. You may also want to check with any churches that your grandparents may have been associated with in Wishaw /Lanarkshire--you may find birth/marriage/death records thru them.

Hello Joni,

I am sorry, I don't think these are the Peter and Mary you are looking for.

My Peter David McAnn was born August 28, 1876 in Beula, New York and died January 20, 1941 in Rochester, New York. Peter's parents were David McAnn born in Scotland and Elsie Grant.

My (Maymie) Mary Minetta Pearl Crosby McAnn was born August 24, 1889 in Linwood, Ontario, Canada. She died July 6, 1965 in Rochester, New York. Her parents were Jeremiah Crosby and Anna Townsend.

I wish I had better connections for you.
