"A Captain Richard McCarty is mentioned among the pioneers of Mason County, KY. It is thought he was one of the Virginia family of that name, who, like so many others, were attracted to the rich country to the West. There is nothing on record to indicate that he settled down in Kentucky, but his name is mentioned in several old records and narratives of the military expeditions under General George Rogers Clark as taking part in expeditions against the Native North American Indians." "in the Spring of 1793".

Source: http://archive.org/stream/cu31924028846074/cu31924028846074_...

Can anyone claim this man in their family trees?
Hi,
I found Anna and Charles marriage license from 1895 in Nemaha county Nebraska. Her parents are listed as Edwin McCarty and Minia Wagoner. I know that on subsequent census records she listed her parents as born in Ireland, then a next census dad born Ireland, mom born Ohio. In 1910 an older brother named Dan was living with her and Charles. That's as far as I've gotten. My e-mail is Shawneefrms@hotmail.com.
I found this man's DOD as Feb.5, 1949 and have his DOB as July 18, 1886 in Lawrence, Essex, Massachusett. His first wife was Minnie Sophia Merry and his second wife was Mary Barry. He had Mildred (1905-1959)in Lowell, Mass. with his first wife and 6 children with his 2nd wife (1888-?) and all were born in Massachusetts.(Fred Jr:1912; Helene Ellen: 1915; Muriel: 1920; Doris: 1921; John:1925; Grace:1928). They moved around and the last I found them was in Rhode Island in the 1930 census. Can anyone shed light on where Fred died; when and where Mary died and any information on any of the children. Fred Sr was the biological father of my husband's grandmother Mildred who lived with her grandparent in the US until about 1917 when they moved back to Maitland Bridge, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia, Canada.

I have a family album with the photos separated from the pages with the identification names. One page says "Lane McCarty's parents" and only one of the photos has a couple in a photo so I assume it is a match. Now to find out who Lane McCarty is. Most of the individuals lived in the Cincinnati area in the album and were related to my gg grandmother Bridget O'Callahan McDonnell of Clinton/Lyons Iowa. Does anyone have a Lane McCarty in their family? Is this a male or female name? The father in my photo looks possibly like a civil war veteran.

Adam McCarty

Looking for information on Adam McCarty who married Annie Reeves (she had a sister Ella (Ellen) married to an Elliot) possibly in Covington, Kentucky. Adam and Annie had a son named Ira born May 14 1884 at Covington, Kentucky. Adam died when Ira was abt. 6 years old (possibly abt 1890). Annie moved with Ira to Pratt Kansas shortly after.
Adam's son Ira lived a short time at Chicago Illinois abt 1900 to 1904/05 before moving back to Pratt Kansas and married 1908 to Ida Teressa Eastman. Ira and Ida McCarty are both buried at Plains Kansas. This info listed was found in Ira's obituary, but cannot seem to get a strong footing on Adam and the connection into Covington, Kentucky. Does anyone have any links to this McCarty line?

My only connection to the McCarty name is through Esther McCarty Deuel. I only recently discovered her maiden name was McCarty. Also in my previous message I said she married Wilber Deuel. That was wrong. She married Jeremiah Deuel, and one of her sons was Wilber. I don't have any more information about the McCarty genealogy than that. I'm hoping to find out more about her family. If I find any leads, I'll let you know.
Marilyn

My McCarty family moved to Schuylerville, in the 1860's. Always wondering what led them to Northern NY in general and Saratoga County in particular. Can you follow the McCarty Line into the 186o's and is there any connection to James and Catherine Fitzgerald McCarty? Do you have info on James's son Richard, a Doctor with his own hospital in Saratoga Springs?
Mike

Is he related to the Cornelius McCarty shown on the 1809 tax list of Jackson County, Georgia.

An Elizabeth McCarty married William Venable in 1815 in Jackson County, Georgia.
Ancestral Line of William Bryan McCarty (b 1897) of Arkansas

The account is under my wife's name, my name is Bill McCarty. My tree is 'McCarty III'

William Bryan McCarty (husband to Raney Lou Wright) was what the Irish call a Ne'er-do-well so there is very little I am able to find on him. He had a brother; Herman McCarty and I believe two half sisters; Eva McCarty and Mabel McCarty as well as two half brothers; Willie M McCarty and Mancel Middleton McCarty. Every bit of the information on the half sisters and brothers could be wrong but I think it is correct.

The even bigger 'not sure' is that his father was William Jasper McCarty (b 1874) of Mississippi and his mother was Anna Lovelace (b 1875) of Arkansas. His step mother was Icy Baugh (b 1887) of Arkansas.

I have been making good progress on my mother's father's mother's side of the family but am striking out when it comes to my own Surname.

I'm not knowledgeable about later generations of the McCartys in Lincoln Co Nc. I do know however that most of Daniel & Agnesses children went to Ga. The name Jacob appears to be a popular name amongst the McCartys, and that's where a lot of the confusion lies in tying the families together. I was just lucky enough to find documentation outside of NC that led me back to NC and Ga to find the proof.

I would suggest posting what you do have on your family. You never know what pieces of the puzzle you might have that might intertwine with someone else's clues.

Our Jacob also had a son Jacob McCarty that was born in 1793 in Tn. The name continued to follow done through the family well into the 1900's.

Good luck in your research!

Sur

ED,
I to am looking for possible McCarty relatitives in Mass. My Great, Great Grand father John Lyons born approx 1822, believe County Cork, Ireland came to America with his 4 year old son Jeremiah Joseph Lyons also born County Cork, Ireland b. March 1851 between 1851- 1855 approx. he left Jeremiah with a cousin (family story says the name was McNairy), so far that has not been productive, so I'm trying another approach. There is a marriage intent of Ellen Lyons and Edmond McCarty, 26 Sept 1846 in Manchester, Essex Co. MA. This matches the location in the family story. It is 1880 US Census, Boston, Suffolk Co. MA where I see my Great Grand Father listed for the first time. Also in the 1880 Census for Marion, Marion, Ohio I find my great great grand father John Lyons, remarried. What I am really interested in is who raised Jeremiah Joseph Lyons from the time he came to America until I find him in the 1880 Census. He was educated and had a business (wood carver) in the 1880 census, but who and where did this happen is unknown. Hope this helps and hope you can help me also. Thanks. Neal Lyons

And I might have to clues as to why not.

We recently determined that Jacob McCarty who was married to Catherine Standley, and who died in 1812 in Stewart Co., TN is the son of Daniel & Agnes McCarty. Catherine was the daughter of David and Hannah Stanley/Standley of Anson/Tryon/Mecklenburg Co., NC and was a neighbor of the McCartys and many of the other families that married Jacob's siblings. This particular document was the tipoff to our discovery:

"Pp. 167-170: 1 & 2 May 1765, Danial McCarty & wife Agness of Mecklenburg,
Millwright, to George Allen of same, planter, (lease a5, release £140)…land adj.
Benj. Hardins old corner, granted to Joseph Harding 26 Mar 1755, conveyed to
John Smith 12 Nov 1757, then to McCarty….Danial McCarty (Seal). Agness
McCarty (A) (Seal), Wit: Francis Beaty, Agness Beaty (A), David Standley (D)."

In April 1770, Jacob along with David Stanley/Standley, and who we believe to be his father John Stanley obtained land on Uchee Creek, St. Paul's Parish, GA. Jacob's land was adjacent to Daniels. This was during a time in NC history that the Regulator Movement was moving down to the Catawba River area. Many families, still loyal to the British were selling off their lands and fleeing the area. Also amongst them was a neighbor, Zaccheus Routh and his family. More of them later in this post.

Looking further ahead, in 1806 in Logan Co. KY we found a power of attorney for David Standley, in which he gave William Standlee the authority to sell his land in Natchez. Up until this time in our research we had never had any reason to believe these families had been in that region of MS.

In the National Genealogical Society, June 1978 Vol. 66 Number 2 we found a roster for the Natchez Loyalists of 1781. Listed amongst them were Jacob McCarty, and his brothers-in-law, Benjamin Stanley, John Stanley and Joseph Stanley. Also listed were John, Benjamin and Zachariah Routh, family of Zaccheus Routh. After Benjamin Stanley's death his widow married a son of Zaccheus Routh. The Rouths were Quakers and British loyalists.

Jacob also obtained land in Natchez on Dec. 5, 1778. Since it appears that Jacob was a British Loyalists, could that be why he wasn't included in family settlement. It appears from historical records that his brothers fought in the Revolutionary War, so perhaps he was on the outs with his family.

Following Jacob had been a real adventure. If you search the American State Papers online, you'll find him along with the Stanley/Standleys in rejected land claims for both Kaskaskia Illinois, which was also another loyalist stronghold, and also in Louisiana and MO Territory in what is now Cadron AR. In the Illinois Territorial papers there is a law suit in which the Treasury Dept brought suit against a man by the name of John Edgar, in which the Standleys and Jacob McCarty were involved. In that suit, Abraham Standley makes a deposition in which he states what their relationships were. Jacob is listed as his brother-in-law.

I have much more on our Jacob McCarty in case anyone is interested.

Sue Abruscato

Allie Esther McCarty's fathers name was Brown Horton McCarty, her mother's name was May but I have not been able to find any info on her but she was born sometime around 1884 in Texas per census records. Per her half sister she died prior to 1940, as Harold remarried in 1934, my quess is she died shortly before that as he had a 5 or 6 year old to care for.
