Looking for McClure family,in 1895 Kyle McClure Sr. Born to Jennie McClure a white woman,Kyle was black. she also had a daugther named Susie McClure, born about 1899.

1900 i find Jennie, Kyle and Susie with a family named RENICK.
and 1905 I find him alone with a family named EDMISTON.

I belive Kyle father was Killed for the afair with Jennie he
died in 1979.what happen to Jennie and Susie.

I took a cemetery tour yesterday and snapped a picture of a headstone belonging to Rev. Daniel L. McClure born November 10, 1876 and died March 1949. Thought I might offer the information up to those interested. He is buried in the Monterey Cemetery. There are 2 cemeteries side by side. He is on the Montrey side.

My James McClure, who is my 4th great-grandfather, was born in Newton (then New Town), Sussex County, New Jersey in 1798. Because of scant records
available in New Jersey, especially no censuses until 1830, I have been unable
to learn who his parents and siblings are. I have not yet made a trip to the area
to research further. I've been seeking this line for more than 15 years.

My James married in Sussex County, then moved his family to Steuben County, New York, where a well-known figure in that area, General George McClure lived with his family. I have not been able to connect those two lines of McClures, but
I feel there must be a connection. James then moved his family to Bradford County, Pennsylvania, where his first wife died in 1842. James remarried and
had a whole second family. They relocated back to Steuben County for a time
around the time the Civil War broke out. Ultimately they ended up back in
Pennsylvania, in Bradford and Tioga Counties. Some of the children lived on and on in Chemung County, New York... primarily in Elmira.

I am descended from James's oldest son from his first family.
There was a Benjamin McClure, whose wife was Bethiah Horton, who also had
family in the Bradford, Tioga, PA area... and in Chemung County, New York.
I have tracked many of his family members, but can't ultimately tie them to
my James, either.

Not sure where to go from here!

I think I may be searching the same branch. I'm looking for two brothers..one named William b 1760 and James b unknown. William moved into Pennsylvania and James is unknown. My theory is one of them, or another brother moved into NY. I have proof on both lines they are mine but cannot put them together as the same line as the NY ones wghich I have as Benjamin b 1789. Any possibility they are the same line?

Hi!

I am looking for any information about my gggreat-grandmother Selina McClure b. 1868 in Chickasaw Territory, OK. All I know is that she was Chickasaw and that her father was Tecumseh McClure b. 1830.

I found her and her father listed in the Dawes Rolls. Other than that I have very little information. I do not know if she had any siblings or what her mothers name was. I would appricate any information that anyone has.

I ran across a 2nd John McClure when I was up in Holmes County. If you send me an email address I will forward the obituary to you if it would help. This John McClure b oct 1816 Washington County PA
6 years of age moved to Holmes County Ohio where he was a resident until 1878.
He then moved to Strong City Kansas.
April 1 1841 married Elizabeth Laylander.
3 sons 1 daughter
1845 united with the Presbyterian Church of Hopewell

I have inherited what I believe to be Ward/McClure family photos. The last family member that could identify them died in 1896 haha. Anyway I need help identifying them and I know ancestry is the only way to go.. The counties I have where the pictures were taken (when marked) are Wenona IL, Morning Sun Iowa or Ohio, Mediapolis Iowa, Burlington Iowa, Marysville Ca, and Minonk IL. My connection to the Ward family is through Mary Jane McClure's marriage to Ambrose Ward, having one child John Ambrose Ward. Mary Jane McClure ( 1829 Ohio- 1896 CA) Ambrose Ward ( 1827 Ohio-1854 Ohio) John Ambrose Ward ( 1854 Ohio-1920 CA). Mary Jane McClure went on to marry Daniel Crawford Ireland 1871- 1893 CA.
I appreciate any help. I will post a few photos but I have several all ages.

Charles Wylie McClure
The McClure Ten Cent Company is known far and near. The great business which has grown up under this name is due to the industry, the sagacity, and the unflagging energy of C. W. McClure, a young man of forty-five, whose career is an inspiring one to every ambitious young man starting life with empty hands. Mr. McClure is of Scotch-Irish stock. he was born in Washington county, Illinois, july 4, 1866, son of James and Sarah (McKinley) McClure. His father was a native of Ches-ter, South Carolina, a farmer by occupation, who had moved West to take advantage of the rich lands of Illinois. His mother's people had moved from the North of Ireland to Can-ada, in 1840, and a few years later settled in Illinois. Young McClure was blessed with a healthy body and an alert mind. he had the advantages of the farm rearing, which is the best school of industry in the world. he received his school training in the local public schools and in a course at the Coulterville Academy, located in Randolph county, Illinois. His father's farm was remote from the great centers and the lad longed for the larger activities obtainable only in more populous sections. At the age of twenty he struck out, selling tinware and other household goods through the rural districts of Southern Illinois, and in eight months so prospered as to convince himself that his true vocation was that of a merchant. After some years of varied experience, in 1896, then a young man of thirty, after giving the careful consideration to the matter which he does to everything, Mr McClure decided to establish a Five and Ten Cent Store in Atlanta. At that time there was no such establishment in the city. He opened a small store on lower Whitehall Street; worked incessantly, and laid the foundation securely and well for the great success which he has achieved. In three years he was able to open up at the present location on the corner of Whitehall and Hunter, where the immense four story warehouse, full of attractive goods from basement to attic, is a very beehive of activity. In 1900 he organized the present corporation, and on February 15, 1907, opemed a second establishment on Mitchell Street, which was destroyed by fire May 7, 1908. Undismayed by this backset he moved steadily forward and his business has grown by leaps and bounds. The McClure Ten Cent Com-panyis now the largest establishment of its kind in the South-ern States and a monument to the business sagacity, presever-ance and determination of its founder. They operate stores in Atlanta, Macon, and Griffin, Athens, and Marietta, Georgia, and a similar establishment in Greenwood, South Carolina, Their stores are filled with everything needed in household affairs, are a credit to the cities in which they are located, and every house-keeper in their trade zones looks upon McClure's as one of the bulwarks of the family. From early morning to late evening their places are thronged with a multitude of people taking ad-vantage of the good goods offered at prices within reach of the most moderate purses, and it takes over two hundred active employees to supply the needs of his customers. From his pri-vate offices in Atlanta Mr. McClure keeps his hand upon the pulse of the large commercial syndicate which he has formed and guided to success. He keeps in close touch with his man-agers , not only by correspondence but by verbal reports, and sees that nothing is left undone which will contribute to success of the business. In addition to the large retail syndicate he has established he is now operating a wholesale house , first es-tablished in the Commerce Hall Building in the fall of 1900 which was moved in September 1910, to the corner of Broad and Hunter streets, where it occupies a frontage of one hun-dred feet on Broad and ninety feet on Hunter. Here the company carries a complete line of dry goods, notions, hardware, tinware, woodenware, enamelware, galvanized ironware, glass-ware, china, crockery, and toys; and here also Mr. McClure has his private offices. Apparently never in a hurry Mr. McClure has one of the most restless minds possessed by any business man of Atlanta, and this active mind is backed up by a strong body. Resulting from this, he has become interested in numerous other direc-tions. He is the organizer of the McClure Realty Company of Atlanta, through which he has acquired some of the most valuable real estate holdings in the city, and from which he has reaped a large profit. he is largely interested in teh Atlanta and Carolina Railway Company; is director of the Colorado Mining Company of Mexico, and in association with some other gentlemen is now organizing a State bank for West Mitchell Street, of which he will undoubtedly be one of the officers. he is also possessor of inventive genius and has secured patents on a safety pin and a water cooler, both of which are strictly in accord with the main line of his business and useful to every homekeeper. his political affliation is with the Re-publican party on national issues, while in the State and local elec-tions he supports the Democrat ticket. his religious in-clination is towards Christian Science. C. W. McClure is a public spirited man, keenly interested in everything that will contribute to the welfare of the city and the State; and though not a politician in the ordinary accep-tation of that word, is a politician in the larger sense that he is interested in the study of government and active in all measures looking toward the betterment of our governmental con-ditions. he is a strong advocate of disversification by our farmers and thinks the State should give large consideration and support to industrial education. Mr. McClure was married on May 19 1900, to Cora B. Ruth-erford, of Baldwin, Illinois. Of thsi marriage three children have been born, of whom two are living; Helen and Sterling McClure. Mr. McClure's working code is a simple one. He says : "Preserve your physical vigor; learn to do some useful thing well; do your work thoroughly and enthusiastically; aim high, work hard, and never be discouraged. Have a clear conscience honor in all things, and charity towards all men." The position which Mr. McClure has attained in the com-mercial world is best illustrated by the fact that when the Five and Ten Cent merchants of the United States organized as as-sociation at Cincinnati, in September, 1910, he had the honor of being elected its first president, and at the second annual meeting at Niagara Falls the last week in August, he was unanimously reelected president for the second term. The man who, in fifteen years, has built up a business from very small beginnings to such proportions as to make him the representa-tive man of one of the great interests of the country, has in him such qualities of leadership as to need no other eulogy.

My grandfather was Leslie McClure, b. London 1884, to Thomas McClure, b. 1848 Stranraer, Wigtownshire in Scotland and Bethia Pollock, b. 1850 Garliestown, Wigtownshire. My grandfather immigrated to South Africa in 1905. His brother Ernest, his sister Jessie and his parents ended up in Australia and his brother John spent some time in Malta. I was born a McClure in S.A. and now live in Toronto. My tree takes me back to Alexander McClure b. 1760 who was married to Isabel McCornock b. 1762, both from Kirkcudbrightshire, which I believe is in the south west Corner of Scotland. This branch may well have had ancestors in Ireland. I have hit a brick wall and I am also not confident that I have an accurate tree with regards to the older members. I would very much like to have more information on the McClures if possible and to go back further. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Jennifer

E.E.McClure was son on John McClure, Son of Elisha McClure of Weatherby, MO. E.E. McClure married Jessie B and later married Ruby McMachen/Steiner and moved to St. Joseph, MO. Daughters Mary L. Price and Harriet Roderick are both deceased. Wondered if anyone had pictures they could scan or names of people I could contact. Alexander Jefferson McClure was also my great great grandfather.I see it's been a long time ago since you posted the query., but I only started intense genealogy study in Aug. 2011. Alexander Jefferson was born Mar 12 1836 in Bath Township, Allen Co. Ohio. Married to Arrena Oct. 20, 1859 , died Mar 23, 1912, buried in Middle Creek Cemetery, in Washington Twp. Paulding Co. Ohio. I have his and arrena's tombstone photo. Also I have several family reunion photos I can email, don't know how to put on ancestry.com.

Yes! William McClure, son of (Major)John Graves McClure, came to Campbell County (now southern part of Fulton County)about the time the Indians were leaving as is recorded in Landrum's "History of Spartanburg County" and that is available on the web. That time would have been about 1830-32 or so. His son Charles Pinkney McClure was born in Campbell County GA in 1834.

I have Alexander in South Carolina around 1825 where he married Eliza Jane Gillespie AKA Jane. Then the family moved to Illinois around 1830.
But nothing on Alexander before that. Some say he was born in Ireland around 1796 others say South Caroilna around 1800 but can't find anything.

Sorry I haven't. I do recommend searching google books for a history of the county they lived in, and searching that book. You might get lucky - i've found a few biographies that way.

Have you come across a Zachariah McClure, father of Anderson, Archibald,George, William and Nancy Ann and Elizabeth? Zach was born 1798 in Penn., married 1820 in Shelby Ky. and died in Vigo Ind., 1843....mac

I can email you scans of a couple of relevant newspaper clippings, which mention Alexander's death - unusual because his father and a brother died about the same day.
I didn't see him in wayne county in the 1840 census... at least not as a household head. he could have still been with his father.

I honestly doubt that he moved to Illinois since he's buried in Richmond, Wayne, IN, but then again...
