My McCollums were mostly from Alabama and some moved to Texas around 1900. The lineage goes Ephraim McCollum(born 1812), Thomas Jefferson McCollum(born 1850), Linton Monroe McCollum (born 1876), Columbus Jefferson McCollum (born 1901, Claude Patrick McCollum( born 1922. If these names ring a bell, we are probably cousins. I have info on these McCollums if you are interested.

I have found references to James P in the Kentucky Irish American but I would like more details about his life in Louisville. Toni

I ran across a 1998 posting on the ALGENWEB website for Fayette county, AL of a woman looking for relatives of Adeline (Glascock) McCollum. I hope this sounds familiar to you. I was hoping somehow that she was the sister of my great great grandmother Stacy (Campbell) Key but after looking through the census, this Adeline had a younger sister Isabella who would be my ancestor's age. I am unable to find my ancestor's family in the 1880 census.

I am trying to find info on my G-Grandmother Dula McCollum. 1909-1999. She had several children, Billy, Bobby, Wanda, and two other living daughters one of which is my grandmother. Unknown about her husband(s). I know they were all from TN (possibly henderson co.) I did find a record from Reeds funeral home in Henderson for Joyce Scates (nee McCollum) which has a Dula listed as her sister with parents listed as App and Dovie McCollum. I have found plenty on App and Dovie but no physical record of Dula as their daughter. Any insight will be of great help. Thank You!

http://genealogytrails.com/tenn/henderson/ReedsS-T.html

Hello to all of you that are researching the McCollum name. I am Lew McCollum a member of the McCollum's that lived in Byram Twp. Sussex Co.I have information dating bach to the birth of my GGrandfather Charles T. McCollum born in 1868 , he was the son of one Jacob McCollum and Abby Dickson. I also have information about Edward and Florence McColloum I found in and 1895 NJ census where Edward and my GGrandfather Charles T. lived next to each other in Byram and I was wondering if they might have been brothers? I have been stumped about any further info. about Jacob and Abby. My source for Jacob and Abby being Charles's parents is from the marriage certificate of Charles and Ella M.Goble listing them as his parents. Any help would be greatly appreciated . Thanks Lew McCollum (reeler2@aol.com)

W.W.,
Don't remember if you ever got an answer to your question about New Jersey Wills. There are quite a few available. I ordered 4 or 5 back in 2008. There are 3 vol. called "New Jersey Index of Wills". I copied some of the names from Vol I and III so I can order some more. You can only order 5 at a time. They were $10.00 each, don't know if that has changed since 2008.
Do you know the father of Malachi b. 1760?? Could be Malachi b. 1730 or Alexander.
Just checking back in. No takers yet from this family, so I'm still holding on to the Silver Anniversary pamphlet. I finally made it to Kilmartin Glen in Argyllshire, Scotland and visited the Malcolm/MacCallum burial site dating to the 14th century. Met a few distant cousins and had the Cathedral of Saint Columba in Oban illuminated while we were there in honor of our immigrant ancestor, "Old John." The photo is of the burial stone for the Laird of the Malcolm/MacCallum clan who died in 1685, the year Old John was exiled. Note the coat of arms and the clan motto "In Ardua Tendit".

No, I haven't had that info at all. Surely, they are buried in Adams co too. There wouldn't be a death certificate available as Indiana didn't start to keep those until 1882. Only a headstone, bible entry or a mention in the local paper, probate records, land sale would give that for that time period. I haven't worked on this line for quite awhile.
I am not aware of a family bible for the McCollums. My cousin Janet would be the last of my line and I know she doesn't have one.
Maybe I could work on that this spring. Thanks for the poke. :)

He was born in Ohio 1813, died around 1860 in Indiana I believe in Adams Co., any way that is where they lived. He was my G G grandfather. My grandfather was Frank, son of John R. My father was Roland, he was born in Indiana and raised in Michigan

It's great to know there are people out there trying to reunite families with old photos. I do McCollum research, but these are not my family. The 1910 census of Mason Texas shows that Anna and Minnie were school teachers and their parents were Samuel A and Leonora McCollum. Apparently this family was in Texas as early as 1855, when Samuel was born. His parents and Leonora's came from Tennessee. It appears that Samuel's parents were James and Martha J. McCollum who were born in Tennessee and lived in Winchester, Fayette County, Texas in 1870. I hope you find a good home for the photos.

McCollum and 4 Mays brothers from Blount County, TN - need help with connection!

Possible links to the missing trail of Albert Smalley McCollum in Riverside, CA -

Albert Smalley McCollum (b. Oct 1880) m. Molly I. Mays (b. 1 Feb 1882)
son - Joseph (b. abt 1906)
daughter - Hester Alice (b. 19 Sep 1907)

Molly dies (circumstances unknown) 21 Apr 1909.
At some point in time between Molly’s death (Apr 1909) and the 1910 Federal Census (May 1910), Albert leaves his children (my grandmother, Hester) to be raised by his in-laws, Houston and Fanny Mays, and moves to Riverside, CA. Census record shows that Albert is a boarder with John and Gertie Arnold, also of TN, in Ward 5. His occupation is listed as “Teamster” on an “Orange Ranch”.

As a side note on the move to Riverside - My aunt tells a story shared by her mother (Hester) about the family moving to CA (1909?), but Molly “gets sick” during the trip and the family returns to Blount County, TN.

Possible ties for the McCollum’s original move to Riverside:
1.) Molly’s brother James Wilson Mays (b. 26 Oct 1880). His residence from 1910 Federal Census was Ward 5, Riverside, CA. Census has his occupation listed as “Foreman” on an “Orange Ranch”. His WWI draft card (1917/18) has him as a “ranch foreman” for the “Arlington Heights Fruit Company” and his permanent home address is “Osborne Camp” in Riverside.

2.) Molly’s brother William Isaac Mays (b. 22 Oct 1883). Again, residence from 1910 census is in Ward 5, Riverside, CA. He was living in Riverside as early as 1909 as his marriage to Amy Helen Proctor around this time. In 1910, his occupation is listed as either laborer or farmer on an orange ranch. His WWI draft card (1917/18) says he is a “self-employed contract farmer”. 1920 census (Ward 5) describes his work as “horticulturist”. 1930 census (part of ward 6) lists him as a “rancher”. William died in Riverside in July of 1938.

3.) Molly’s brother Atterson Dole Mays (b. 3 Feb 1887). 1910 and 1920 show Atterson living in Ward 5 of Riverside. Atterson’s WWI draft card shows that he, like his brother James, was an employee of “Arlington Heights Fruit Company”. The draft card also mentions his lived on Victoria Ave. in Riverside. Atterson was living in Santa Barbara in the early 60’s and died in 1980 in San Luis Obispo.

4.) Molly’s brother Flettie/Fleat Rextor “Rex” Mays (b. 5 Feb 1891). His WWI draft card shows Rex as a driller for a company that is illegible (“The Postland _____ Co.”, if I were guessing). He lived at 1159 Lemon Street in Riverside. Rex had a son, Rex Mays, Jr., who was a successful race car driver.

All 11 of the Mays children were born in Blount County, TN. Of the seven Mays brothers that lived to maturity, these four lived in Riverside (3 of them in Ward 5) within the same period in time.

There is record on each of the Mays brothers (to a degree) about the life they lived out in Riverside and nearby parts of southern California.
There is no detail that I have been able to find about Albert Smalley McCollum after the 1910 census. Did he remarry? Did my grandmother have any half-siblings? Where and how did he die?
There must be some connection between Albert and brothers of his deceased wife all living within a couple of miles of one another in California. I also wonder if there is a connection between Albert and the Arnold’s, as they are both listed as being born in Tennessee.

You have some information confused. John McCollum II and Susannah Wells did not have a son named Duncan. The dates you have for John II (John Mack Collam as he signed on his will)are incorrect. He was born in 1690 and died in 1777. He listed four children in his will: Moses, Jacob, Susan , and John who was already deceased. Some list a son Duncan for "Old" John (1657-1760) and say he fought in the Rev War. Joel's Family History does not list a Duncan, but does list James, David, Daniel, and John. Wish I could say who Dun can belongs to, but the verifiable info is just not there.
Ralph McCollum

Hello,

I'm interested in the ROSEGRANT connection to this family, because of the mention of Clark county, OH. I suspect there may be a relation to my Mary (Polly) ROSEGRANT who was born 1792 in either OH or NJ. Trying to find parents, but no luck so far. Do you have additional info?

Regards,
Mike

Addendum to original post - After further research, I have found that Molly's brother Atterson Dole Mays was also living in Ward 5 of Riverside, CA. This information is from the 1920 Federal Census. McCollum is also found in the 1920 census as a boarder with John Arnold (also from TN). Mays is listed as an Orange Ranch Foreman. Mays also appears on the 1910 census as a Teamster on an orange ranch.
Can anyone make this connection between former brothers-in-law from east TN? Thanks in advance for your help

Trying to find information on Jimmie Ruth McCollum b1912 d1926. She was the daughter of William Joshua McCollum and Alice Lenore McGarity. No one in the family really talked about what happened to her. The story was that she died when they were in the process of moving from North Georgia to Decatur County Georgia. The only info I have been able to find is a 1920s census. I would appreciate any info amyone may have.

Parents of Edward McCollum (1850-1902), were Jacob H. McCollum (1823-1907) and Susan Robinson (1824-unknown). I have Edward's death certificate and a few newspaper articles about his illness and death. Edward was the husband of Florence and their son was Edward C. McCollum, the individual you mentioned. Edward and Florence also had a daughter, Susan B. McCollum, my great grandmother. I have been unable to figure out who the parents of Jacob H. McCollum are but I suspect it is because the name changed. I did find a Will for a Jacob MacCollum who lived in Sussex.

Edward's wife Florence A. remarried to Henry J. Campbell.

"Edward McCollum, of Stanhope, was taken
to St. Barnabas Hospital at Newark on Friday.
He has been suffering from kidney
trouble for some months."

Edward died 13 Oct 1902. This newspaper was published August 15th, 1902. So he died a couple months later. Edward is buried in Stanhope Union, Plot K 22.

Edward McCollum, aged 52 years, died at his home in Stanhope on Monday. Mr. McCollum had been suffering from kidney trouble and rheumatism and had but recently returned from St. Barnabas Hospital in Newark, where he had been under medical treatment. On his return home he seemed somewhat improved but on Sunday he had a relapse and died Monday morning. He leaves a wife, two daughters and three sons. The funeral services were held at the house at 2:30 o'clock on wednesday, the Rev. C. W. Demings officiating. Interment was in Stanhope Union Cemetery.
17 Oct 1902 , Dover, NJ

Lee,
I have started on the Sussex Co. part of the McCollums which includes Edward C. as he was born in Sussex. This has to be the least documented line of McCollums that I have come across. Seems like they only knew the names: Aaron, Moses, Jacob and a stray John or two. Thus far I cannot tie a positive line of descendency together. Looks like Aaron Jr. could be the father of John, Jacob H., and Moses H. Do you have enough info on this line to verify that??? At this point, any info I can get would be great..
Ralph McCollum
