MARY E. McCOY (age 13) - 1880 Owen Co KY census

I am researching a young girl, Mary E. McCoy, listed on the 1880 Owen Co KY census, living in town of New Liberty. She is 13 years old, born c1867 KY. Her parents are Francis M. and Susan Ann McCoy. Siblings listed are: Johnston A., Jacob, Robert H. and Martha.

My grandfather, John McNamara, was born 30 Apr 1884 in Lexington KY and orphaned when a small child. He said his mother was MARY McCOY and his father was FRANK McNAMARA.

The Mary E. McCoy listed on this 1880 Owen Co KY census would have been about 16 or 17 years old in 1884. She may be John's mother, but I have found no marriage record in KY for her to a McNamara.

If anyone has information on this girl (did she marry?, when she died?), please get in touch with me. Thank you.

Sarah McCoy Raley

We are searching for Sarah! She is the brick wall of brick walls. We thought that Sarah b. about 1858 was a Raley. Found out she might be a McCoy that had children with a Raley (HENRY). The story was that Sarah had 5 children out of wedlock with Henry Raley. One of the children was Leola b. about 1888. Leola m John Wesley Barrentine. They had a daughter, Leona who married Howard Cue Branton. My sister found Sarah living with Howard and Leona in Kinsey, AL in the 1930 census. Howard and Leona had 6 children, Betty Ann, Eloise, Elois(no not the same child), Willie Earl, David Lamar and Howard Cecil.

If anyone has information on my gggrandmother, please let me know. I will finally get out of the hole I have been trying to dig under the brick wall and finally see sunlight again.

My maternal grandparents< Marion Tilden McCoy & Dora lee(Lynn) McCoy< met & was married somewhere in KY (Eastern I Believe). They had the following children: Albert McCoy (lived in Dayton OH), Russell McCoy (Wheelersburg OH), Grace McCoy Zornes(lived in Portsmouth OH), Eunice McCoy(Franklin Furnace, OH), Lyda McCoy Blakeman (@ Ohio Furnace OH), Minnie McCoy Martin (Columbus/Dayton), & Willard Lee McCoy(Columbus/Springfield OH areas). My grandfather had a nickname "Laddie". He passed in Dayton OH @ Uncle Ab's (Albert)home. Uncle Ab "lost" his grave! I don't know how you can do that. GrandMa McCoy died in Portsmouth OH (1953 or 1953)& is buried in the OLD Wheelersburg OH Cemetery. Her mother's mname was "Hunt". All of these people passed leaving very little information. Lyda McCoy Blakeman is my Mother & Harold Edward Blakeman Sr is my Father. My paternal grandparents names were Charles (from Stockdale OH) & Sally Freeman Blakeman(from South Point OH). If anyone has any information regarding my relatives, please let me know. Also, if you all have any advice regarding how to conduct this research, I would be grateful.

According to the info I have, William McCoy (son of Archibald McCoy) was the grandfather (not the father) of the famous Ole Ran'l McCoy...of the Hatfield/McCoy fame. William was born in 1753 and died in 1822 in Montgomery, KY. Ole Ran'l's father was John McCoy who married Margaret Jackson. They had a total of 10 kids.

SC MCCOY'S - BELTON/PENDLETON AREA

Have hit a brick wall. Need some advice or help going further. I've traced my McCoy line back to James McCoy (dob about 1785, dod 1844) he was married to Sophia Mayfield (dob 1785, dod March 5, 1852). According to later census, James and Sophia were both born in South Caroina. How do I find out who James' parents were and when they might have come to the colonies? I've tried searching immigration records with no success.

My two theories: 1.) James' parents came to the colonies during the early migration of Scottish and Irish (maybe by way of Cape Fear, NC or Charleston, SC) or 2.) His parents came on the Pennslyvania Wagon Train after a peace treaty was signed with the Cherokee Indians in 1785, maybe his mom had him when they first arrived in the Belton/Anderson area?????

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Joseph McCoy s/o John McCoy & Lois of Rockbridge,Va.-b1789

I posted a message a short time ago pertaining to this Joseph McCoy. I have a record sent to me by.......from a Bible published in 1784. It states that John McCoy was born 2-05-1752 and he married Lois McCoy born 1-29-1786. I have that same John McCoy & Lois....on wedding certificates from Rockbridge,Va for. ...Arthur and Daniel who married in Rockbridge,Va. .................INTERESTING.........They also have a Joseph McCoy born 4-21-1789.....the same as I see on various posts. as belonging to John and Rebecca Blair. Is the John & Lois the same people...................This same .....JOSEPH MCKEE.......a good Rockbridge name.... was born in PENNSYLVANIA .....AND... both his parents were born in MARYLAND. .....Joseph has a son Richard. born in 1836 in Ohio who married an Elizabeth. This can be found on the 1880 census online. .....JOHN MCCOY the father of JOSEPH was born 2-05-1752 who married Lois. He died 3-17-1818........What do you think of this family...Is this family from Rockbridge the one from the Archibald Line. There was a tax paid by an Archibald in 1783 in Rockbridge. I would appreciate hearing from someone. Thanks. Ann.

I am seeking information on the family of Gabriel and Esther Macoy. My records show Gabriel and Esther had at least the three following children: (1) John Macoy, b. ca 1810 in Georgia, (2) Mary Macoy, b. ca 1815 in Georgia, and Nancy Ann Macoy born April 14, 1816, in Georgia.

John Macoy married Elizabeth Chappell on June 4, 1835 in Campbell County, Georgia, and moved his family to Alabama in the late 1840’s or early 1850’s. Mary married Larkin William Allen on January 7, 1844, in Campbell County, Georgia. Larkin and Mary relocated to Alabama before John Macoy and his family. Nancy Ann Macoy married Daniel Campbell Goode, Jr., on October 22, 1835, in Campbell County, Georgia, and later relocated to Alabama and then on to Texas.

I descend from Gabriel and Esther through their son, John. I would very much like to exchange information with anyone on this Macoy line.

Alexander McCoy_Catharine Sutherland??? Where did information come from?

Re: Alexander McCoy/ Catharine Sutherland: Where did these children come from on some of these genealogies? The Alexander McCoy who married Catherine Sutherland in 1787, died August 12, 1807 and it is not likely he had children after that date! Here is the history that I received from a library in Ripley, ohio on one of my trips. Unfortunately, I did not write the name of the book but I did take a copy of the page and it is a history on Revolutionary soldiers. McCoy, Alexander-Born in 1764 in Scotland. Died August 12, 1807, and is buried in the Old Ripley Cemetery, Sec. F, lot 5, grave 2, upright marker, Union Twp. Private in the Pa. Militia. Ref: Brown County Recorder's Office of Soldier's Records, Page 74. Came to America in 1772, enlisted in Apr; 1782, in Washington County, Pa. Served on different tours, with the Pa. Troops under Capt. Swearingen, Builderback, Shannon, Major Scott, Colonels McClellan, Crawfor, Williamson and Gibson. In the battles of Sandusky, serving as a private. Total service, 6mos. Pension No. 26348 issued May 9, 1834. Married in 1787, Catherine Sutherland (:1758-1848). Their son, George, married Jane Bumpson. Ref: Pa. Archives, S 6 V 2, Page 122. That is the complete article, Does anyone have proof of other children? I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks. Ann

McCoy/McCay in Missouri during the early 1800's (possibly from Tennessee)

I am researching my ancestry and hope that someone else out there might have some ideas or clues that may help me understand more about my McCoy or McCay roots. I believe my ancestor is either David W. McCoy or Davis W. McCay who was born around 1819 in Missouri. I know for certain in May 1859 he married Hester McMillen (b 1839 in Kentucky) and had the following children:
*John McCoy (b 1863 in MO)
*Sarah Isabel “Belle” McCoy (b 1866 in MO) (My line)
*Mary Margaret “Maggie” McCoy (b 1867 in MO)
*Frank McCoy (b 1868 in MO).

The 1860 census lists a 60 year old Rebecca McCoy or McCay (b 1800 in Tennessee) living with him. Perhaps this is his mother? In the 1850 census Rebecca McCoy b 1800 from Tennessee is living with a Nancy Doty (b 1829 in MO) so Nancy could be a sister to David/Davis McCoy/McCay.

He could also have a sister-in-law or 1st wife named Martha (from Kentucky) who had several children. In the 1850 census his household is listed in the following order:
David W. McCoy
Edy Babcock (a 13 yr old daughter of neighbor Pardon Babcock who moved to CA before the next census)
Martha McCoy/McCay (his wife?? sister in law?)(b 1825 in KY) & kids (Bedforde McCay- (b 1844 MO), Ellen McCay (b 1846 WI), Nancy- McCay (b 1847 MO), baby Rebecca –(b Jan 1850 MO)

In the 1860 census he is listed as Davis W. McCay and has married my ancestor, a 21 yr old Hester A. McMillen (B 1839 in KY) the year before and has the same children (Bedford, Ellen, Nancy, Rebecca, PLUS two more children that were not there at the last census - Cordelia (b 1852), Milly A (b 1854). This makes me think that perhaps he was married to Martha and she died at some point between 1854 and 1859 which is when he married Hester McMillen.

Does this match up with anyone else’s lineage or knowledge of McCoy/McCay’s in Missouri or Tennessee during the 1800’s? Please also feel free to email me at mjcook@comcast.net and put McCoy in the subject line. Thank you!
I've located my William McCoy on the 1850 through 1880 censuses. I believe it is the same family because the family members' names remain the same, but they all seem to age oddly. William aged 14 years between each 10 year census. However, on the 1850 census his birth year computes to about 1822. I think this is probably closer because as we get older we tend to forget how old we are and estimate. At least I do. But I estimate I'm younger than I am. I located a birth record for William McCoy for September 1822 in Hagerstown, Washington, Maryland, which is where I believe he was born. His parents are William McCoy and Sarah. I don't know this is my William but its the best lead I have right now. I couldn't locate this family on any family tree so I wondered if anyone had information they could share with me. Although I would prefer to get a reply that said, "Yes, Jane. This is your William and here is his complete, documented pedigree," any information would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jane Beyers

Jim McCoy

I am looking for a 3rd Great Grandparent. Jim McCoy was the father of Annie McCoy.Jim McCoy was born in Alabama. Annie McCoy Pipkin's mother was listed as Nellie born in Alabama. I can find Annie McCoy Pipkin on the 1900-1910 & 1920 Federal Census. My 2nd Great Grandmother died March 1920 only 3 months after the federal census.

I am trying to find her father Jim McCoy. I have looked in both Alabama and Louisiana. Annie McCoy was born in LA and died in LA. Her death cert. stated that her father, Jim McCoy was born in Alabama.

This family was African-American. Any help would be welcome.
pat

James & Margaret Graham McCoy

Carol,
The only thing I have is a letter that details a brief history of the McCoy family which starts with James born in 1804 in Fayette Co, PA. He married a Margaret Graham and went by covered wagon to Fulton, IL in 1839 and then to Scott Co Iowa in 1840 and then to Ingraham Township in 1850. There is a long list of children and who they married, some of whom went to Montana, Kansas, Nebraska. I don't see any McCabe's in what I have documented, but some of the McCoy names are repeted as are the locations?
