Vera Tessier was my paternal grandmother. I found her brother, Gerald, here in Oklahoma to let him know of his sister's passing. I am not sure if he is still living... He was quite elderly and frail and suffering a bit from dementia when I met with him in '02. If you need info to fill out your family tree and history, I'd be happy to help out. There are many descendants of Charles and Vera Tessier spread across the US! My email is: carollmiller@cox.net
Here is her obituary:

Vera Tessier, 85, of Stockton died
March 9, 2002 in a convalescent hospital. She was born in Sumner, Okla., and lived
in Stockton for 44 years. Tessier worked as a housekeeper. She was also a homemaker.
She was a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors: children, Cherie Palkman
of Bandon, Ore., Howard Tessier of Sacramento, Karen Tessier of Eldon, Mo.,
and Melany Cissna of Stockton; brother, Gerald McCracken of Midwest City, Okla.;
13 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. April 27, First
Baptist Church, 3535 N. El Dorado St. Mortuary: Wallace-Martin Funeral Home.
Committal: Stockton Rural Cemetery.
My mom was told by family that our McCrackens on our tree claim to be Irish, but my friend whose mother was born in Ireland informed me that Mc-names are Scottish. So we concluded that we're Scotts-Irish, but when the McCrackens actually became Scotts-Irish is yet to be determined. It's quite possible that they were such BEFORE the religious prosecution drove them the Ireland some time later. Tolerant, interracial families are more likely to live with and marry either type if they have some sort of family history of it; right?

Anyway, I'm looking for connections to this family:
couple: Charles McCracken - wife (1/2 Cherokee)
sons: Charles and Gerald
daughter: Vera Josephine Tessier(born in Sumner, Oklahoma on the 25th of August 1916)
Hullo.
I am curious about a brother of Henry Joy McCracken. Can anyone help?
A strong tradition in my family asserts descent from the family of Henry Joy. On the balance of probabilities, it appears that Henry Joy's brother, John, although already married to Eliza McReynolds, had a relationship with Margaret Caruthers. Their illegitimate son, William was born c. Oct 1797 in Greenoge, Dromore, Co. Down and baptised 5 Nov 1797 in the Dromore Parish. William in turn married Margaret Jane Harrison in 1932 in Tullylish, Down. Their son, James Harrison McCracken, enlisted in the British Army in Dec 1854 and eventually ended up in New Zealand. There he took part in the hostilities against the Maaori King Movement. When hostilities ceased in 1865, he married Susan McNish, a young woman of Scottish, Creole and Maori descent. McCracken descendants are now numerous in New Zealand.

Hi. My data is sketchy too. I did find (ancestry.com) that my gr gr grandfather, Joseph McCracken was board a ship from Liverpool and arrived in US New York on the 6th of October, 1851. He and his wife Eliza were found on the the Ontario Census 1871, with 5 kids. The ages of He and Eliza (her name was originally Elizabeth) are a bit different but the children are documented farther down the tree, so I am thinking I have the right relative. There were so many McCracken's! Like Smith in the US!
I just can't seem to find where he was born. Frustrating but when I find a new bite I get excited again!
Is your relative related to Heny Joy McCracken, the Irish Protestant Revolutionary who fought (albiet briefly) against the British?

Hi there, I am directly related to Joseph McCracken who came over from Ireland (I am trying to find out where) approximaely 1848 - to Coberg, Northcumberland, Canada. I am not sure your family and mine are related but I am sure we were also from Scottish decent. I say this not really knowing. I am going to visit Ireland in late June and am having a difficult time figuring out where my gr/gr/gr grandfather was born. He immigrated to Canada,as I stated earlier but I can't seem to find out from where? Any ideas as to how I can get this information? My grandfather migrated from Canada to the US via Michigan and my father still lives there (Tawas city , Michigan).
Please help if you can!

George and Phebe McCracken, Bradford Co, Pennsylvania

Hi all!

I'm trying to research my Irish connection, the McCrackens, but as usual, I'm getting a little stuck in 19th century Pennsylvania. George and Phebe McCracken had 4 children listed on the 1850 census, in Wyalusing, PA. Wallace, my ancestor, was born in 1843, and later married Malvina Deborah Hagar. His sisters are Electa, Jane, and Henrietta.

I'm trying to find George's parents and/or Phebe's parents. She and her 3 year old daughter Electa were listed simultaneously in her husband's household in 1850, and also in William Sill's household in Herrick, PA, so she might have been visiting her father, but I can't find any evidence to support a relationship. In 1860 George and Phebe and kids are listed in Asylum, PA. In 1870 George and Henrietta are listed in Terry, PA, and in 1880 George and Phebe are listed in Terry. George was born abt 1823 in Pennsylvania per census data, and Phebe was a couple years younger.

Does anyone have additional info on this family line? I'm particularly interested in tracing the McCrackens back to Ireland, but I've got a ways to go. Thanks so much for any help you can give me. Happy Saint Patrick's Day!!!

-jr

The primary volunteer at the Mercer Historical Society thought they were linked but I cannot find it. Still they all seem to go back to Ireland and to Scotland before that.
In the 1900 census there is a Samuel age 3. The family is as follows: Age Born
Father: Adam 52 Nov 1847
Mother: Mollie 47 Feb 1853
Son: Charles 17 May 1883
Son: Hugh 16 May 1884
Daughter: Emma 13 Sep 1886
Son: Samuel 3 Jul 1896

Does this match with information you have?

My McCracken's came from Ireland to Canada to Wisconsin to Massachusetts to Arkansas. I'm at a brick wall for mine. I can assist you further with prior or later census records if the above matches.
Well, Sarah's Parents were Abraham and Ida McCracken. Abraham was a son of Alexander McCracken and Lavinia Schafer.

Abraham and Ida are buried in the Sugar Grove Cemetery in Aleppo Township, Green Co. Penn. There are a few "Polens" burried in the same cemetery.

Ellen Polen: 1845-1925
M.L. Polen: 1865-1944
Rachel Martin (Wife of M.L.) 1869-1936.

There are also "Polens" burried in the Hewitt Cem. in Sugar Grove.

J.T. Polen: Died 4-9-1902 Age 64yrs 3mo 28da
Margaret: 1808-1885
William: Died 10-31-1871 Age 75yrs 4mo 24da
Nettie (Daughter of Laura) 1896-1897
Samuel: 1843-1886.

The Cornerstone Genealogical Society in Waynesburg would be your best outlet for offline research on this, they have TONS of printed and digital material for sale that is not online and their office in Waynesburg is VERY well stocked.

If William di, indeed, die in Waynesburg then they will have some way of confirming or denying it.

http://www.cornerstonegenealogy.com/

Sean M

The info that I have on her:

Birth: March 20, 1837 North Georgetown, Beauharnois, Quebec, Canada
Death: October 01, 1869 Glencoe, Ontario, Canada
Married Hugh McCracken 1855 in MIchigan.

If this sounds like your ancestor, I've been able to trace back to her g g g grandparents ... although the only info I've acquired about her ggg grandparents are their names & possible birth dates.

If interested, please contact me at: gigigodwin@live.com

Perhaps the info I've found will be of interest to you.

My husband was tested by FamilyTreeDNA.com. Surprisingly, names other than McMurray, such as Hughes, McCracken, and McClure among others have matched either exactly or only by a distant of 1. Go figure!!

My husband's fartherest known ancestor was William Logue McMurray, born (perhaps Warren Co.) TN in 1821. Several McCrackens have shown up in the same DNA such as George Devords McCracken and Charles H. McCracken II. It's possible that some were adopted or raised, like you said, by McMurrays or visa versa. We were hoping to solve some mysteries in the family tree. Instead, we are more frustrated.

About the same time your McMurrays moved to Rusk Co., Texas fr Tenn., some McCrackens removed to Cherokee,an adjoining Co., from Rutherford Co., TN. They were descendants from a McCracken who died in NC and a McMurray was guardian for some of their children.
Would you tell us who among your McMurrys show as matcheswith a McCracken? Perhaps if those of us eresearching McCrackens find out who we may determine how.

My husband is a McMurray, but after being DNA tested, the name McCracken and McClure (among others) show up as matches. Does anyone have a clue as to why? We are at a brick wall with the McMurray surname, the earliest being William Logue McMurray, born 1821 in TN.

Hello -
I am a descendant of John Lytle McCracken, actually for a couple of generations they alternated naming John Lytle and John Calvin...
My paternal grandmother was Mary Lizzie McCracken, who was the last John Lytle McCracken's daughter, born in 1899.
i am very interested in tracing the line back to Ireland. Northern Ireland is where my grandmother always told me we came from.
