Hello,
Does anyone have access to or a copy of the document in which the land of James McCrea McCray is given to Elizabeth Vance, Margaret Abernathy, Jane Shores, and Robert..all supposed siblings of James?

This land transfer is most likely a division of his estate about 1818. The land in Jefferson Co., VA/WV and Hampshire Co., VA/WV.

I am hoping to validate the names of these siblings.
Joan
We spoke last week about Admiral Dewey and Lola Bell Cooper in De Berry, Texas. I know you must be contacting a lot of people, but you have to remember who you speak with for future references. Do you have info on Ms. Emma Houston or you just want info on De Berry, Texas?

Emmer Gray-Mallard

You have the number.

Nathan McCrea was born abt 1827 in Maine (however, he was listed as born in Massachusetts in one census). His father's name is believed to be Samuel. Nathan moved to New Jersey and married Maine-born Mary Joyce Babbidge (born 25 Jan 1832), descendant of 7 Mayflower passengers on March 6, 1854 in Newark, NJ. Nathan was a hatter by trade.

Civil War records list him variously as McCrea, McRay and McRae. Enlisted, May 26, 1861, at Newark, N.J., to serve three years; mustered in as private, 72nd NY Infantry, Co. F, June 21, 1861; captured in action, May 10, 1864, at Landron's Farm, Va.; paroled, April 10, 1865; mustered out with detachment, July 6, 1865, at New York city.

He later suffered from kidney disease caused either by his year as a POW at Andersonville or his exposure to chemicals as a hatter. Nathan died Sept 17, 1881, Orange NJ. and is buried at Old Burying Ground of the First Presbyterian Church, Orange, New Jersey "McCrea, Nathan 'Co.F. 72nd N.Y. Inf'"

That's about all I have, but if you have specific questions, let me know and I will be glad to dig!

Married in Coldwater MI. A couple of the boys were born in MI. Moved to IL a son or 2 born here as well. Moved to Iowa, where the rest of the family was born: 8 sons-1 daughter. Nellie married Frank B. Freley/Feely 1899 in Bates MO. Go to Google books, there you'll find a bio on Louis H. McCrea, some info isn't correct, but most has proven ok. It gives a starting place for your research. LDS Beta gives info as well. Backed up by info found on Ancestry.com. Anna died in Vernon MO May 8, 1914. Buried at Wall Lake Iowa. I hope to hear from McCrea cousins. Mary at: i-be-leve@msn.com

Diana....This was the DNA "Family 16" William Davidson who came to VA from PA (he married first Sarah McCoy and second the widow Mrs. Elizbeth (Wilson) McCrea). He was the father of the Samuel Davidson mentioned in the Bible record on this website. This was one of at least five...and maybe as many as six...separate/unrelated Davidson-Davison-Davisson families that were in the Augusta/Botetourt/Rockbridge Co., VA area in the 1700s.

We have DNA donors from five of the above-referenced six "groups," and I hope that someday we can have a male Davidson donor join the DNA project who is out of that sixth "group" (that was headed by a John Davidson/Davison who was married to Mary Allison and who left his will in Rockbridge Co., VA in 1802). A couple of the children of that John and Mary (Allison) Davidson/Davison married into a branch of my own DNA "Family 10"....but there is nothing to suggest that these two Davidson/Davison families were "blood related" to each other. Bill Davidson

Thank you! Our line went down the McDonald line. Richard married the widow of James McCrea and his son Wm R McD(son of 1st wife, Margaret) married James McCrea's & Catherin's daughter, Catherine. They had Wm H.who married Joanna Axford in 1818 Sussex Co, NJ...they had Philo McD in 1820 Herkimer Co.,NY...he married Lucinda Smith and they had Katie McDonald (born in Arkansas) who married Samuel David McIntyre my grandfather.

The Chancery record is easy to get but you'll have to be creative to copy it. Go here http://books.google.com/ and
search for Gilbert McCrea and he will show up in this book "Gateway to the West" by Ruth Bowers, Anita Short.

Hello - Rev. James died 10 May 1769 and his 2nd wife, Catherine Rosbrugh then married Maj. Richard McDonald of Somerset, NJ. She died 23 Jul 1813. (Her daughter, Catherine McCrea married McDonald's son, Col. William McDonald.)

Here is a question for you... Who was Gilbert McCrea?
I found a transcribed version of a court Chancery record from Butler County, Ohio that states that Gilbert was in posession of land that was given to his sons, Catherine's grandsons. His mother filed the complaint. It was dated Sept. 1827. It shows Catherine's will on 6-10-1813

Was Rev. James McCrea a.k.a. Gilbert?
