Michelle, I would love to talk to you about the McCutcheons! I'm sure if you still have the deed to the old farm that Harry McCutcheon's daughter, June McCutcheon Lombard, would love to have it. I am doing some research for her. She is a wealth of information, hasn't forgotten ANYTHING and she is 86! I know she'd be interested in talking to you.
Lisa Cooper

McCutcheon Mystery

I'm looking for information about a John or Ian, who went by Jock, and claimed to have survived a shipwreck. He came ashore in Nova Scotia around 1864. He adopted the name Crouchuck and later Coucher, apparently having something to hide, and said he would tell only one person what his name really was, and anyone who wanted to know could ask her after his death. According to his niece, he told her the family name was originally McCutcheon. He said his mother was a Harvey. He was my great great grandfather. He claimed to have sung in a famous choir in Scotland, and served in the British Army in India. He had many Indian coins and trinkets.

He later (not sure when) moved to America where he lived the rest of his life and had a family. He married Maria Morrison, who was born in Amherst Isle, Canada, but I have no further information about her. They both died in Cohoes, New York, he in 1906, and Maria in 1883. I know this is not much to go on, but any ideas how we might find out more about him? We all would like to know more, and want to know who our Scottish relatives are.

On the 1910 Census did it indicate what state he and his parents were born in? If it was TN, I would bet they are part of the Davidson County McCutcheon line especially if they married in Nashville. The Davidson County line is branch of the Augusta County, Virginia line. The Davidson County line immigrated into Tennessee early and were land surveyors. They surveyed a ancient Indian/game trail from south of Nashville into Limestone County, Al. It was known for some time as The McCutcheon Trace.

I am looking for information on William McCutcheon (born abt. 1881). His wife was Mary. They were married in 1905 in the Nashville, TN area and then I found them on the 1910 census in Chattanooga, TN. According to family stories, he died young (around 1910 to 1915) and may have been killed. He could have died in either Tennessee, Alabama, or Georgia.

There are two William McCutcheons in Chattanooga during this time. One was African-American and one was white. As far as I know, it is the white family that I am seeking information on.

looking for info on William Armstrong's wife, Elizabeth mcCutchin Adair. They were both born in Ireland and came over on the Louisa from Londonderry to Pennsylvania. They had 12 children, most born in Pennsylvania. The Armstrong family history goes back pretty far, but I have hit a brick wall with Elizabeth mcCutchin Adair. She was born in 1791 in Down, Down, Northern Ireland and died in Sept 8, 1848 in Miller's Run, Pa. William didn't die until 1867 and that was in Indiana.

I believe that George was decended from my ggggg grandfather Robert's brother. I don't have the brother's name but they came from northern Ireland in the late 1700s. Any information you have I would love. If there is any information I have you can have it.

My grandfather John (Jock) McCutcheon emigrated to New Zealand in 1907 sailing on the Everton Grange from Liverpool to Sydney (I don't know how he then arrived in New Zealand or whether he spent any time in Australia). I have a copy of his Everton Grange ticket which cost him 8 pounds. John was born in Glasgow 9 July 1879; lived in Burrell's Lane, Glasgow. His parents were James McCutcheon and Bridget nee Linney.
regards
Cathrine Waite (nee McCutcheon)

My husband father is a McCutcheon from West Virginia. It is our understanding that he is descended from a McCutcheon that came from the Shenandoah Valley area with two other brothers. In WV all three bothers married sisters who's last name was Odell. Are you able to share any more information about John F. McCutcheon and the booklet you have called "McCutcheon's in America"? We would be very interested in finding out more. My husbands grandfather was John Alderson McCutcheon and his father was Joshua McCutcheon and his father we believe was James McCutcheon. Thank you very much.

My grandfather moved to Canada in 1911 where my father, Clarence was born, then moved to Cleveland,Ohio in 1913 where he lived the rest of his life. I really enjoyed seeing the photograph. My grandfather said he had lots of aunts, uncles and cousins in England and now I see what he meant!
Dianne McCutcheon
