I am researching the Mc Gillivray family from Orangeville, Ontario, Canada. Alexander and Janet Mc Gillivray (nee Scott), lived on Margaret Street in Orangeville. They had several children. Alexander was still living in his home, on Margaret Street, until his death in 1956. Alexander was my great grandfather; which was not know until my grandfather (his son from first marriage) passed away and we found his adoption papers, dated 1892. Sincerely, Joanne ANY RELATION???

I believe that Clifford Bot(t)sford McGillivray may be my grandfather. My father was CBMIII(1942-2002), and my brother is CBMIV (b.1967). Chicago-area. I don't have much information at all about him. He passed away when my father was in high school. I would be interested in anything you may have come across.

Unfortunately I have no further information. My primary interest is a Donald Fraser, tacksman of Bruiach 1810 - 1836. General Simon Fraser of Bruiach lived at Bunchrew before his death in 1813 but I don't know how and if these two gentlemen are connected. Simon McGillivary and his wife Ann had a son John born c. 1799 who is possibly the same John McGillivray who later lived at Bruiach so I am trying to find a possible connection. i am weondering how mclintosh ties in with mccormicks of tama tribe,im related on both sides mcgillivary and mclintosh ,grand mother and grand father,and can trace back to mccormick from early co georgia,but i have read that mcgillivary and mclintosh were cousins,i have family from both lines that were in close range of each other at times

i agree 100% in my resurch i have seen misleading statements,i also have family,in close lines with you,i herd one storry that said a girl was calld tiger weoman and then later some saying she was of tiger clan,she i cant remember all of the storry but my mother was reading it to me,if i get the rest of storry and get back with you we can compare notes but i dont like to imagine things i need proof

I am looking for ANY information on an Elsie Gertrude Mcgilvra born 28 Jul 1886 in Sac County Iowa and died 12 Mar 1964. She married a George Converse in 26 Sep 1906. I know she had a sister named Carrie. I need parent information or anything anyone may have. She would be my great Grandmother.

This William McGillivray was born March 20, 1852 in Thurso Quebec and died April 26th 1910 on Ottawa.

married to an english woman. beginning to think he may have emigrated to Nova Scotia. there are alot of McGillivray's there. first glimmer of light!

I also have one that may fit in with your 1846 DOB: William McGillivray - no other details other than he was the son of Daniel McGillivray who was born Oct 17, 1822. This would make Daniel 24 when William was born. If this fits I may be able to get further info for you

there are several Angus McGillivrays listed on the Canada Clan McGillivray website. perhaps one can help you. also try Ontario Archives website. There is also a Canada National Archives with branches across canada located in Ottawa. the Clan McGillivray Usa has some resources listed also. good luck, and good hunting---got any william h. McG?

I have a Daniel McGillivray in my files but no real facts or sources. I have him as a possible brother of Isabella McGillivray (1857-1928). Unsupported information indicates their parents may have been John McGilvray & Mary McEacheron.
This family has been difficult to track down but I do know Isabella was married and had a number of children in Ontario and died in Toronto.
These are a few notes I have but most are not substantiated except for what I know of her marriage and death:

Her father may have been a shoe maker and her mother from well-to-do family on the Isle of Mull. She ran away with Thomas, to Canada, when her parents did not approve of their relationship. It was rumored she was related to the wife of Sir Henry Pallet, who built Casa Loma.

When they lived at Kirkland Lake it was a pioneer’s life with native people also living in the area.

Scotland 1861 census shows 2 Isabella McGillivray ages 0-3 both in Inverness. There is a possibility my Isabella was one of these but later on census records indicate she may have been in the Glasgow area.

No announcement in the Toronto Star of her death.

You are my second cousin, once removed. You Great Great Grandfather was Allen McGillivray, who was my gr grandfather. Your Great Grandmother Adelaide Maria McGillivray was my grandfather, Hugh Alexander McGillivray, sister.

It is terrific to hear from you. I presume that you live in eastern Canada and are up very early?

I have no information on my gr gr Aunt Margaret tree other than she was born in 1812. I also only know about 2 other of Angus and Mahala children: Daniel and Angus with no birth dates. Are you able to provide further information?

Can anyone help with the Angus McGillivray family tree. Angus was born in Scotland about 1772 and married Mahala Spencer in Montreal Canada in 1811. I understand that, my second cousin, Sue Joan Modolo has done considerable work on this but I have been advised that Sue is now deceased.

Hi Tracy. Yes you and I are related. You are a gr gr gr grandaughter of John McGillivray, born in Montreal November 18, 1813 to Angus and Mahala (Spencer) McGillivray. I am a gr gr grandaughter of his sister Margaret, born Aug 24, 1812. She married Angus Grant in Lochaber in 1837.

Hi Mark, I have you all figured out, and you and I are fourth cousins. I have been into geanealogy for a long time, and I already had your father in my file. We share the same gr gr gr grandfather Angus McGillivray (1778-1852)
Your gr.gr grandfather was John McGillivray, born in Montreal November 19, 1813, and christened in Christ Church Cathedral(Anglican) Montreal November 28, 1813.
My gr gr grandmother Margaret McGillivray was born in Montreal August 24, 1812, and christened in Christ Church Cathedral September 24, 1812. She married Angus Grant in Lochaber in 1837. I hope this helps you.

My father, Archie Allen McGillivray - born in Weyburn Saskatchewan, Mar 30 1928, died Feb 14, 1989.
Other information I have gathered, but not confirmrd is:
Grandfather Hugh Alexander born Aug 21 1905 (I thought it was 1899 or 19009, died July 22 1957 (I thought it was 1959).
Great Grandfather was Allen McGillivray born June 4 1852 died Jan 31 1940
Great Great Grandfather was John McGillivray Sept 21, 1812 - May 25 1887
I believe that his father was Angus McGillivray, born 1788, immigrated to Canada 1806/07 and married to Mahala Spencer in Montreal on Oct 30th 181. Spent a few years in Montreal then moved to Thurso Quebec

Hi Jane, I am trying to find out if Ann FRASER is connected to my FRASER family so I don't have a lot of information on the McGILLIVRAY family. Simon McGILLIVRAY was a servant to General Simon FRASER of Bruiach at Bunchrew. From the OPR from Kirkhill I have the following children:

1793 Janet
1795 Simon
1796 Peter
1799 John
1803 Donald
1806 Margaret
1809 Catherine

I have a John McGillivray from Bruiach as a witness to the baptism of three children of John and Jane FRASER c 1826 - 1831.

I have been told that Peter was a Wood Surveyor but I have been unable to find any of these people in either the 1841 or 1851 census (FreeCEN).

I am sorry that I don't have any more to go on.

I didn't know anything about William's sister before, thanks for the name May or Mary. William came over from Scotland and stayed mostly in Montreal, headquarters for the northwest co. His nephew Duncan was also an explorer with David Thompson mostly. He and Thompson were the first white men to camp on the site of what later became the city of Calgary. In BC there is a McGillivray range in the Selkirk mountains, McGillivray Falls and Kootenay River and Lake were originally called McGillivray's river and Lake..L

I am trying to connect a Daniel McGillivray to another McGillivray. He was born Sirana Ontario Canada on 16 March 1872He married Lillian Snyder of Ohio abt 1907. Daniel was a Lake Erie sea captain for a steel company when he died in an Erie Co Pa hospital after an appendectomy.His death certificate lists his father as Angus born in Scotland, mother unknown

My grandmother told me I was a descendant of Sehoy, a 'princess' of the Wind Clan of the Creek Nation. From the information she recieved, it says Sehoy, or Sehoy the second married Captain Louis Marchand. I would appreciate it if could talk more on the subject.
