Thanks a lot! I have much of that information, but I had not checked the McSims and so I didnot realize about James and Susanna"s daughter Sara. I believe John McGinnis and Melissa Cornelius to be JAmes Albert McGinnis PArents, but I can not be 100 % sure. I also can not find what hasppened to James Susan or Sara in any records I search for.

Leroy W. McGinnis, known to family and friends as "Meatball and Sonny", 80, of Newark, Ohio
passed away Monday, May 14, 2012, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born March 11, 1932, in Newark, Ohio a son of the late Cecil Leroy and Bertha May (Mauller) McGinnis.

A lifelong resident of Newark, Ohio Mr. McGinnis was a gentle, kind and faithful man who loved his family and his country.

He served in the Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict,retired from Owens Corning Fiberglas and was a member of Second Baptist Church.
Mr. McGinnis was a past president of the Newark Eagles #387, member of American Legion Post 804, Newark REAC, Fiberglas Retirees Club, Buckeye Lake Seniors Club and Heath Seniors Club. He enjoyed golf, football, woodworking, dirt track auto racing and was a very dedicated fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley E. (Mazzei) McGinnis; two daughters, Vickie (John Chambers) of Oilton, OK, Judy Kain (Gary Murch) of Cushing, OK; two sons, Michael (Amee) McGinnis of San angle, TX, John McGinnis of Clyde, TX; step sons, Wayne Timothy (Nancy) Duston, Robin Eugene (Jackie) Duston, Joseph Fabin Duston all of Newark, OH, Lee (Sue) Ashcraft, Tom Ashcraft, James Dixon all of Newark, Jack (Aneita) Dixon of Winter Haven, FL; step daughters, Alyce (Brad) Shane, Deborah (Pat) Bennett both of Newark; many loved and cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Judy (Russell) Friend of Newark, Ohio

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Renicker and Shirley Clark.

A service will be held at 11AM, on Friday, May 18, 2012, at the Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home with Pastor Dean Cole officiating.
Burial will follow at Wilson Cemetery with the Licking County Veterans Alliance providing military funeral honors.

Friends and family call 5-8PM, Thursday, May 17, 2012, at the funeral home, 985 N. 21st Street.

Memorial contributions may be made to Odyssey Hospice, 540 Officenter Place, Suite 100, Gahanna, Ohio 43230.

I am probably unrelated -- I can't trace my McGinnis'. My 2nd great grandfather was a William McGinnis, born maybe 1856 in IL.
This is a long jumble, I hope some of it might help. I noticed that you did not have Zacheus W. Calhoun's wife's name, I think it is Mary J. Burke.

I am looking for the brothers and sister of sweet william mcginnis. Sweet was born on feb 2 around 1880. He died on oct 31 1959. I was told that sweet left the plantation (in either va or nc) because they sold his mammy. He was 9 years old when he left home. He would not discuss any of his family and he never returned home or spoke to his family. I was told that his mother died in childbirth and his grandmother named him sweet william mcginnis. Apparently we are in the same family. My great grandfather (3 times) was William McGinnis...his son Roy McGinnis is my grandfathers father. I have some information that might be helpful. Lander, Wyo., has been found on the railroad
at Ridge. His head had been severed from the
body by a train.

From indications the authorities entertain the
theory that the man was murdered and robbed
before the decapitation occurred, the body
being so placed that the first train would cut
off the head. McGinnis had relatives in Chicago
and had announced his intention of going to that
city before leaving Lander.

I am trying to find out information on any children of a McGinnis that used different first names...James...Everett...Elsie...Elzie. He was born in Kentucky around 1897. My mother was his first child, maybe born out of wedlock, I don't know. But I was told that he had at least one other child after my mother. My mother is now deceased, she was born in 1920 or 1921 in Portsmouth, Ohio. I found some information that James Everett?? McGinnis may have married a Shirley Bruce in 1930...but then nothing of them between 1930 to 1971. In 1971 I found their divorce information that indicates 2 children born of the marriage. It is those children's names and approximate birth dates that I am trying to find.They would have been my aunt or uncle and their children would be my first counsins. Any information in this regard would be very appreciated.

Lydia A.McGinnis b 1849 in NY. Married to Thomas Z. McGinnis.
Thomas served in the Civil war. Mustered in NY 5th Artillery (heavy). Applied for pension in 1877. Lydia applied for widow's pension in 1921. Requested enlistment info from NY State Archives. Pension information from National Archives will be requested later. Both Thomas and Lydia are believed to have lived in Michigan after the end of the Civil War.
My grandfather was Roy Stanley McGinnis. Thomas and Lydia are my g.g.grandfather/mother.

Sorry, Oh! we who are McGinnis face a challenge! My grandmother's mother was a McGinnis (Illinois and Indiana -- total brick wall for me). I found more on the Dows. Hope any of this helps.
"My grandpa was Eddie Chancey McGinnis he was a fireman for the railroad. He was married to Ida Mae Dow and lived in Oklahoma.

Are you certain that George Thomas McGinnis (b1882) is the son of the George Edmond McGinnis (b1861) who married Eliza Jane Smith? I think perhaps George Allison McGinnis (b1888) is their son, and George Edmond probably would not name two sons George.

They had a son George Thomas on 12/9/1882.
Documented records show George E. marrying Eliza J Smith on 12/14/1882 5 days after son was born. Angeline did not die in child birth. We can find no record of divorce. Does anyone have any informatin on this?
