Helen McGuigan/Patrick McGill/John McAllister Ireland early 1800's

I am researching a Helen McGuigan born possibly in or around the Derry area. Her daughter Margaret Jane was born in 1843 so I am guessing that perhaps Helen was born around 1820.
Helen McGuigan married a Patrick McGill and he is listed on her daughter Margaret's death certificate as a Land Surveyor.
Daughter Margaret came to Glasgow with her husband John McAllister in 1883. I believe Helen McGuigan and Patrick McGill both died in Ireland. Margaret Jane married John McAllister in the Moneymore area of Derry.

Hey, I've looked at your tree and see you connection with the Traynor family. Since posting this I have more information on the McGuiggan's, they we're Irish travellers from Antrim, but I have no baptism for Helen as travellers tended to leave very little trace. My problem is identifing the father's of Helen's children...My direct ancestor was her daughter Annie, who's father was named as a Thomas Reddie. Although I have found deaths for a 'Thomas Reddie' I do not know which one is Annie's father. The same for Paul Traynor and Mary's father, John Ferguson. At least Reddie and Traynor arn't as common as Ferguson though. I have looked at your 'Paul Traynor' to try and see if it does fit in, but I'm not so sure...He marries in Midlothian which is a far distance from Erskine, and also his occupation is a drastic change in just 3 years. But there arn't any coresponding death records for another Paul Traynor, so it could well be right. As for Helen's other children (Who died in childhood) there was no father mentioned on birth certifcates or relief records.

I'm sorry to say that I've had no luck getting past Michael McGuigan. I have a lot of questions, though. I will list some of them:

Why is there no record of the family before 1870?

Why did Michael die young? Age 44 (same year as Samuel)

Why did so many of Michael and Margaret's children die so young? Phoebe age 16, Sarah 7, Issabell 3 (and same year as Sarah), Samuel 1.

Who is Susan McGuigan (1792 - 1878)? Is she Michael McGuigan's sister even though she is old enough to be his mother? 29 years difference in age?

I was wondering if you've had any luck tracing this line back any further than Michael? His marriage record doesn't list parents/witnesses etc.

I've found an Ambrose (b 1801) and John (b 1816, buried in Bethel Cemetery near New Bridgeville) McGuigan that lived in Windsor/Chanceford in 1850 but I don't think they're directly related.

Based on the age of his sister Susan I suppose it's pretty safe to assume that he was one of his parents later children?

Our family has lived in this small community for over 150 years.
Have you seen my tree posted on Ancestry.Com?

Thanks, and I hope to here back from you.
Paul McGuigan

Hi Paul,

John L. is my great great great Grandfather. His son Charles is my great great and his grandson Lewis is my great Grandfather.

I wasn't sure if you saw his grave marker on find a grave:

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GScid=2...;

I to am interested in his wife's Martha's maiden name and of course his parents names. I did notice that there is an "Agnes" buried in the same cemetery old enough to be a parent but the 1860 census has that person living with another family named "Snow" and the sex as male. I did have a great aunt name Agnes McGuigan, so perhaps she was named for her.

I'm interested to hear if you have any other information since your post, so please feel free to email me.

All the best

David Perrett
Charleston, SC

Based on my reading of all the posts and the family tree information I have everyone on this series is related. James Francis McGuigan marreid Mary Moran (though most of the trees have her as Doran). I have not been able to find James paretns but I have found an Edward McWiggins in the 1850 Wilkes Barre census that matches up with James age but no confirmation yet. James served in Civil War on two occasions, In late 1890's he wen on a walk about and the family stroy was that he passed away in or around 1897. He did not die until 1925 and is buried in Danville National Cemetery in Illinois. He was in and out of veteans homes between 1900 and 1925.

James and Mary had folloing children
William b 1857
Mary b 1858
Anthony b 1860
Ellen b 1862
Hettie b 1864
James Joseph b 1867
Julia b 1870
Henry (Harry) Charles b 1872
Edward b 1875
John Edward b 1878
Francis Sylvestor b 1876

Henry/Harry married Mathilda Weber. Mathilda was John Weber and Minnie Youngblood's daughter. Many of the trees on the web have Minni's father as Peter. It was actually Peter's brother John who moved from Wilkes Barrre (where the four brothers and their mother had settles) to Old Forge. I have a picture of John and Minnie if anyone is interested.
Margaret unfortunately died of Peronitis( possibly a burst appendix that wasnt properly treated !)in 1928.
I would be grateflu for an update of the family n Australia.

kind regards

Are these people different than the subject of this thread? or related?
From my research, Thomas Myers was my Grandfather. My fathers name is Harold Eugene Myers, My Grandfather was Harold Cochran Myers and Thomas's son was his father.
Thamas was captured at Gettysburg, this is what my grandfather told me and sent to Libby Prison.
If you are related to Thomas, you must be a direct relation to me. My father came from Phil, Pa. We have a old photo book at my dads house with a house in Carbondale, Pa. I think. I do not have the book in front of me right now.
I would like to get in touch with you. Except for my grandfather, I do not know that much about the Myers family.
I heard of one family story about a Hessian soldier. There
was another about a family company in Pa.
My grandfather had a falling out with his father. Nothing was really talked about that side of the family.
My e-mail is jaspergreens@bellsouth.net
Thank you
Kenyon Myers

When my people came over and from where.

Charles McGuigan, my paternal, great, great grandfather, came to Philadelphia from County Tyrone in 1851 when he was 21.A little over a decade later he served with a regiment from the Diston Saw Mills where he was employed as a sawyer. He was at Antietam as well as Gettysburg. His namesake son was a drummer boy at Gettysburg, just eight years old at the time. On the second day of fighting his mother dragged her son off the battlefield, or so the story goes. She, her name was Margaret, was a teacher in Philly.

Capt. Thomas Myers married to Agnes C. McGuigan

I have a copy of Capt. Thomas Myers' Civil War Pension Records, and thought I should post the following:
Thomas Myers was married to Agnes C. McGuigan on Oct. 19, 1854 in Chambersburg, Pa by Rev. John Guyer. Their children were Rebecca Myers, born Sept. 27, 1856 and Charles E. Myers, born Dec. 5, 1861.
Thomas Myers enrolled in Co. "K" of the 107th Pa. Vol. Infantry on Nov. 23, 1861. He received a Gunshot wound that passed through his left lung in the battle of Fredricksburg, Va. on Dec. 13, 1862. He was discharged from the Service in Annapolis, Md. on May 15, 1865. On his pension papers his height is 5'-10", weight 145 lbs and complexion is "sandy". His residence after the war is shown as Altoona, Pa. where he died on June 10, 1902.

David M. Myers

I'm hoping I'm on the right track here... My Great Grandfather was John McGuigan and he and his brothers (and sons) were cigar makers in Baldwinsville NY. One was Peter, there was a Edward, a William, and a James. and There HAS to be a connection! I would be so appreciative if anyone has any information for me. I noticed someone here is living in North Syracuse - I'm in Clay! Please feel free to contact me @ eemerso1@twcny.rr.com with any info you may have about my McGuigan family.
