Mary McGUINESS - Ireland?>New Zealand

Seeking any information on Mary McGuiness, born abt 1837 (death record in 1894 shows she was 57) who came out to New Zealand with husband William McGivern, had a son Thomas, and when William was killed in the Maori wars in 1860 she married John Solon and had seven children, one of whom was my great grandmother, Mary Ann Solon. Mary McGuiness's birthplace has not been confirmed as County Down however her Husband William came from Banbridge, so it is more than likey she was born there too. No marriage or death record for thomas McGiven in New Zealand records, he may have returned to Ireland
Any info appreciated.

Thomas McGuiness married Susie Callahan

My great grandmother, Susie Callahan, was born in Roxbury (Boston area), Massachusetts.

Massachusetts Vital Records for Roxbury, MA, 1866, show that she was born February 1, 1866 in Roxbury, MA. Her parents were Jeremiah Callahan and Mary Melefont of Roxbury, MA. He was a wheelwright. They were both born in Ireland (no town or dates given).

Death Certificate, Massachuestts death certificate # A804316, stated that she was born in Boston, MA and that she was 81 when she died, thus making her born in 1869.

Unsourced information says she was born in 1872.

If she was born in 1866 or even 1869 or 1872, she is the right age to be the daughter of your Mary Mellefont, born 1846. Perhaps we have the same Mary Mellenfont?

Susie married Thomas McGuiness, who was born in Leicester (near Worcester) MA May 22, 1855. He was the son of Michael McGuiness and Mary Rice.

I don't have any further information on Mary Mellenfont/Mellefont/Melefont other than she married Jeremiah Callahan. I don't have dates or locations. Does anything here sound familiar to you?

Correction to Thomas F. McGUINESS Post

After hours of tromping through cemeteries, visiting town halls and scouring old records, I have found that Thomas F. McGuiness's parents were Michael McGinnis (note spelling) and Mary Rice. He came from Ireland and she came from either Ireland or Worcester, MA. They were married in Mullbury, MA, Oct. 23, 1852 and had a son James, born there Aug. 9, 1853. Thomas was the second son, born May 22, 1855, but we can't pinpoint his birth location. The 1855 Irish Census has him in Leicester, MA and 3 mos. old (which matches his birthdate of May 22, 1855). Thomas's children's birth certificates have conflicting information of his being born in Leicester or Worcester. Both town clerks have told me that he wasn't born in their town, but I have the family all listed on the 1860 Leicester, MA census as well. I know now that Thomas is buried in Maine. I can't find Michael and Mary McGuiness in any cemtery in the Worcester/Leicester area. On the 1860 census there was a Mary McGinnis who appeared to be Michael's mother, but I can't find out anything else about her either.

With these new facts, does anyone have any information on the family? There was another Thomas G. McGuiness born about the same time in the same area. He was married to a Margaret Leonard and they are buried at St. John's Cemetery. He is not my Thomas.
If you can access The AOL Genealogy section and do
a search for Mellefont you should be able to find church records.
I found one of my ancesters that way. He was Richard Mellefont in the Diocese
of Cork and Ross. Regards, Richard.

Thomas F. McGUINESS

I am looking for information on the family of Thomas F. McGuiness. He was born Nov. 1852 in Boston, MA and married Susie A. Callahan who was born Feb. 1872. They had four children: Edward, Doris, Angela (my grandmother), and James. Looking for Thomas and Susie's parents, whom I believe to be Thomas and Rose (?)McGuiness and Susie's parents, Jeremiah Callahan and Mary Mellefont. I believe both sets of parts came from Ireland but I don't know when and I don't know about other members of the family back then. I don't know when they came to the US. I assume they came to Boston, since that's where they lived, but maybe not. Does anyone have any more information?
