Re: John McIntyre

My name is Timothy Forkl, I am an Army Captain currently stationed at FT Lee in VA. I have recently joined ancestry and was of course researching info on my family. I came upon some of your older post in reference to John McIntyre. My Grandfather was named John Cecil McIntyre, and he and the rest of the family were from in and around the Chattanooga area of TN. Firstly John was a Marine and was in WWII. Family anecdotes say that he served in several of the island hopping campaigns and was wounded on Iwo Jima. Now this is family lore and I have yet to verify any of it, however, the reason I am writing to you is that he did quite some time ago, 1961 to be accurate, and his wife my grandmother died in 1996. After John’s death my grandmother remarried and was subsequently divorced. Long story longer, in the early 90's my mother received a letter from the Marine Corps informing her that she was eligible for John's pension, not much quite honestly but she signed it over to my grandmother. The letter stated that she and another person were listed as beneficiaries and that the other person could not be located. This led us to speculate that perhaps my Grandfather had another child prior to marring my grandmother.

I don’t want to get your hopes up or anything, John McIntyre isn’t exactly the most uncommon name, and I couldn’t even begin to tell you where he was in 47, I'm still trying to get his FOIA service record sent to me from the archives. However, the commonalities dictated that I at least contact you.

If you have any pictures of your John send them to me if you like, if they match up then I guess the mystery is at least somewhat solved.

Like I said just too many things in common to not shoot you a line. Hope to hear from you.

Good luck in any case,

Timothy Forkl

P.S. I also sent you an email that says this exact same thing. TPF

Calvin McIntyre/Texas

I'm looking for any information on my great-grandfather, Calvin McIntyre, Sr. He was born around 1900 in Texas, and I believe he was murdered in San Antonio in the early 1950s. He and my great-grandmother, Helen Merriman, were married in the middle of the 1920s and were divorced by the early 30s. They had two sons, Calvin Jr. and John. I know at one point, he lived in Ohio, but other than that, this is all I know about him.

Any and all help would be appreciated, even the littlest clue!

Thanks!

Kev,

Dalry does n't mean anything to me other than knowing it is in Ayrshire. I have n't come across a George or Hugh. I have found that Christina Gillies who had a child with Colin Campbell, though it seems may not have been married to him (as their child's birth certificate does not give her maiden surname), was the child of Gilbert Gillies and Isabel McIntyre. You will have noted the spelling of McIntyre. Christina Gillies' date of birth is 18/7/1818. I will check the English census as Gilbert is an English rather than a Scottish name.

David

I guess it has to do with Pittsburgh builder Mathew H McCloskey, a close friend of President Kennedy, giving money to LaSalle University during the depression.

The McIntyres I am talking about were related to Elizabeth Cady Stanton when Elizabeth Cady's sister married Duncan McMartin a relative of explorer Archibald McIntyre who owned most of Lake Placid NY.

McIntyre Township just north of Williamsport PA was named after Archibald McIntyre.

Also almost for sure Elizabeth Cady Stanton was related to or connected to Catholic Bishop Fulton J Sheen and his friend Clair Booth Luce.

The Fulton J Sheen Library in Rochester NY is very upset that I believe Bishop Fulton J Sheen was related to Bishop Stephen V Ryan of Buffalo NY. Bishop Stephen V Ryans records are closed and can't be viewed.

The Booth name can be connected to both the Ryan and Sheen families. Of course the Cady family can be connected to Robert Fulton who invented the steamboat when Robert Fulton married Robert R Livingston's sister.

Are you sure of the spelling of McIntyre? I have been looking at the death certificate for Ann Campbell who died aged 82 in 1920 in Kilchrenan. Her maiden name was MacIntyre. Her father was Donald MacIntyre a ploughman and her mother Flora MacIntyre (maiden name I think was Jackson). The death was registered by her son Dugd Campbell. Kilchrenan is such a small place, I assume we are talking about the same MacIntyre family.

I have him married to a Nancy Lee (no date or year) she was born in Ireland in 1802 and passed in Tyrone Ireland, they had a son Robert who was born in 1830 also in Ireland who came to america in 1844/1845 my McIntyre family has ties some how to PA area and to Ohio and Nebraska that I know of. I found a Jas McIntyre who came over I think in 1850 but had a differant wife, and kids but no mention of Robert. So I an not sure if we are looking at the same person or not

Colin, No, I don't have confirmed information on Angus and Mary's parents. But I am recently in contact with some researchers interested in that question.
I have seen the work of Clark Barrett, who did a lot on various McIntrye lines. Do you want to collaborate & share information. I can also let you know of new information on Angus & Mary's ancestry -
Hopefully you will contact me dierctly mike9863 at telus dot net

Mike,
Vancouver

Moses McIntyre died at age 47, and I know for sure that William and Alxexander were both raised in an orphanage. They were ages 10 and 11 when their parents died. I'm not sure why they died so young. They later grew up and moved with their Sister Sarah to Iowa, then onto New Mexico to mine for gold. Alex was a fairly large guy, we have a brass bed in our family that was for him specifically (he couldn't really fit in an average bed) =)
I haven't been able to findout where they were born.
My great-grandfather was Patrick McIntyre, who married Margaret Murphy; their child Lillian married my grandfather Harry Mallot; my mother is their child Marjorie;she married John Gueguen and I'm their youngest child. We must be cousins; which of Mary and Michael's child did you descend from? I sure hope you still subscribe to Ancestry.
Help please...

I'm trying to trace family of Maria Keenan Taylor (b 25 July 1901) who married William McIntyre in Toronto, Canada in 1926, records state that they were going to live in York. Maria was from Greenock, Scotland/Portglenone, Ireland, and William from Scotland.

On the passage records it states that Maria was going to stay with an aunt Cath Kyle - her sister could have been Jane Kyle, Portglenone, Ireland.

I'm hoping because of the unusual middle name someone may just recognise it. My granpa tried tracing her years ago before internet, I'm picking up the mantel.

Thanks in advance

David & Kathy Melvin McIntyre of Saginaw=any surviving children?

Did David & Kathy Melvin McIntyre of Saginaw and Flint Michigan have any surviving children? On line records show David McIntyre married Katherine Melvin in 1907 in Saginaw, Michigan.

Records show that they had Isabella Agnes in 1908 who died soon after birth and Gordon Woodrow in 1915. both Gordon and Aunt Kathy died soon after his birth in Flint.

The 1910 census doesn't list any children and I haven't been able to locate David in 1920. There is a household in 1930 that lists a David and Mary Francis McIntyre. There were no children listed for that couple.
