Hugh McKenzie, born circa 1725 Isle of Skye, emigrated to North Carolina

I am searching for the ancestry of Hugh McKenzie, born in Isle of Skye, Scotland sometime around 1725 (a rough guess based on the date of his emigration), emigrated to North Carolina between 1745 and 1750. He settled in Moore County, NC. He married a Nicholson (first name unknown) who was from what is now Richmond County, NC. He served under General Nathanael Greene during the American Revolution, and died of illness during that service sometime between 1780-1781. He had John McKenzie, my fifth great grandfather. If you have any information on Hugh or his ancestry, I would love to hear from you. My email address is genealogistKeith @cox.net. Thank you in advance for any aid which you may provide.

McKenzie family - Isle of Skye, North Ireland

Hi , My ancestor was a Samuel McKenzie who emigrated to North
Ireland from the Isle of Skye in or around 1830 with 3 brothers. They
settled on a section of land called Derryoghill near Moy and Benburb in
County Tyrone. There are several descendants who still live in the area and
we had a huge family reunion there last April.

Our Samuel had several children one of whom was James. James married
Elizabeth Jeffs and had several children one of whom was my grandfather,
Robert. My grandfather emigrated to Canada in 1907 and there are several
relatives who went to Australia, New Zealand, and the US. Does anyone have any
further information of the McKenzie family? My cousins and I have
been doing tons of research and have found that the McKenzie clan is
very extensive and widespread throughout the world! Hope to hear from you.
Heather McKenzie (Cranbrook, B.C. Canada)

Looking for information about McKenzie family from the Hermiston-Umatilla area. They settled there in the 1880's. They were the foster family of my gr-grandmother, Mary (May) Lanham-Gates, who they took in after her mother died on the Oregon Trail in 1884. I have a picture of the McKenzie's sitting on the porch of their house. The picture looks to be early 1900's. Have a letter written to my gr-grandmother from Georgia Mckenzie in the 1920's.

McKenzie from Jamaica
This is an update to my previous postings:
My Grandma is from the McKenzie family of Clarendon, (Kellitz) Jamaica mixed origin from England, Scotland etc;. Her mother's name was Ethyl died 1958 I believe. I do not have much information on names but she had 12 siblings ? one was a brother named Vivian and a sister named Vivine? (this sister's last known maiden name was Richardson and her last known residence was in Florida). There is a cousin named Winston. I don't have much here, but I thought there is a slight chance. Please feel free to contact me with any leads or info.

Daniel McKenzie

Have searched for almost 20 years now on Daniel McKenzie born Nov. 28, 1823 near Grantown, Strathspey, Scotland. He married Catherine Stalker who was born in 1827, in Dollar Clackmannon on November 11, 1848. He was listed as a coachman on the wedding banns. They came with family to Georgetown, Onterio, Canada about 1855. From there into Detroit, Michigan, then to Pulaski, Illinois, and then to Hutchinson, Kansas where he died March 27, 1884. I have been told he had at least one brother William who came with them. My family tree is on Ancestry.com should you wish to look at it for further help. I thank you for looking and anyone out there connected please contact me. rbuckles2@yahoo.com
John McKenzie from Scotland to New York circa 1750

I am trying to trace McKenzie ancestry from recent information received from a descendant of John McKenzie. John settled in Kinderhook, New York and was married to a Mary Taylor (born 1745- daughter of John and Christina Taylor). Their children were Nancy (born 1772), Alexander (born 1774) Daniel (born 1778) and Jane (born 1781). All the children were born at Kinderhook. The original researcher of this information had a note in her documents that spoke of a John McKenzie - son of Alexander baptised 19 May 1721 in Tain, Ross Shire but her research did not show a tie to this ancestry - just a note that this would be a point for further research. During the Revolutionary War, this McKenzie family were Loyalists for the British side. The children left New York in the late 1780s and settled in the Hastings County area of Ontario (called Upper Canada in the 18th Century). I am hoping to seek connection for this John McKenzie back to Scotland

Looking for info on Elizabeth McKenzie and William McKenzie

Elizabeth Ann McKenzie born Conon Village, Urquhart in 1861. Her parents were William McKenzie and Jane Ann McLean.
Elizabeth`s mother Jane Ann McLean died 14 March 1864 in Conon Village, Urquhart.
In the 1871 census Elizabeth is staying with her paternal Grandparents Donald and Ann McKenzie in Drainie, Lossiemouth.
In the 1881 census I can find no DEFINATE sighting of Elizabeth.
In 1882 Elizabeth`s father William McKenzie died at Quarry Court, Drainie, Lossiemouth.
Elizabeth records her fathers death and gives her address as 137 Fountainbridge, Edinburgh.
She is NOT listed at that address in the 1881 census.
Where was Elizabeth between the years 1871 to 1882 and where did she go after that?
Did she marry? Where did she die? Any information on Elizabeth would be greatly appreciated. There is a REMOTE possibility she ended up in Canada.
Elizabeth had a brother William McKenzie born 31 October 1859 in Kiltarlity, Inverness. Nothing else known about him.
Thank you for reading this.
Kathleen

I am the last McKenzie in my line and am interested in keeping my lineage "alive" by tracing my roots. My Grandfather was Dallas McKenzie (Died mid 60's, near St. Louis, Missouri) and his brother was James McKenzie (Died in the late 80's-early 90's in Michigan). Do these two sound familiar to anyone? I never met my grandfather, so I never got to ask. I don't even know if there were more siblings or what their parents' names were! Thanks a lot!

McKenzie of St. Anicet, Huntingdon, QC

I would like to connect with anyone related to DONALD MCKENZIE and ANNE MCCUAIG of St. Anicet, Huntingdon Co., QC. Donald and Anne married in 1837 in Godmanchester. Donald died in 1868 and his widow is listed in the 1871 Census, St. Anicet with several probable children. The baptisms of the following children are listed in the Chateauguay Valley Church Registers:

Murdo (1837)
Peter (1839)
Murdoch (1842)
Andrew (1844)m. Catherine McIntyre 1868
William (1846)
John (1850) m. Laura Etta Elder 1875, Olympia, WA, USA

The Washington State Library has a listing of Thurston Co., WA (USA) Pioneers which includes a 1918 interview with John A. McKenzie. This report confirms his parents as Donald Mckenzie and Annie McCuaig and notes his father was b. Inverness, Scotland and his mother b. in Cote St. George, Canada. Both were reportedly buried in La Gare, Huntingdon, QC. John indicated that he traveled to Washington with his older brother, A.S. McKenzie in 1868 (probably an additional brother not listed above) via the Isthmus of Panama.

I do not know if I am connected to this family, but I have a McKenzie family in that area which may be connected:

Catherine E. Mckenzie (b. 1845 Ormstown)
Donald McKenzie (b. 1847 Godmanchester) (MY LINE)
Alexander McKenzie (b. 1850 Godmanchester)
John McKenzie (b. 1853 St. Anicet)

The parents of these children were RODERICK MCKENZIE and LILLY CAMERON. I believe I have located Roderick in the 1851 St. Anicet Agricultural Schedule (spelled Rodick McKinzs...very bad handwriting on part of census-taker). I believe it is the right man as people who served as witnesses in various records are on the same page. I have not been able to find him in the Personal Census for St. Anicet that year. In the children's baptismal records, Roderick is listed as a blacksmith by trade.

Some of the people who served as witnesses at the baptisms of the children of Donald McKenzie and Ann McCuaig are the same (or same surname) as the people servings as witnesses at the baptisms of the children of Roderick McKenzie and Lilly Cameron. This could be a coincidence, but I'd like to check out the possibility that they are related.

My Donald McKenzie, b. 1847, married ELIZABETH CURRAN MCKENZIE in Prescott Co., Ontario in 1885 though he indicated repeatedly in records that he entered the United States in 1868. If he did live in the U.S. by 1870, then something drew him back to Canada for his marriage in 1885. (His sister was married and resided her whole life in Jefferson Co., New York, so that may be the U.S. connection). I have not been able to locate Donald in any U.S. Census records in 1870 or 1880.

Any info on McKenzie (or Cameron) families of St. Anicet/Huntingdon Co. appreciated.

Monica Wilbanks Buzbee
Half Moon Bay, CA, USA

Their parents were Alexander McKenzie and Ann Whyte.

If this sounds familiar please get in touch. I'd love to know what happened to them!

I was told that we have 3 descendant grandfathers that were named Beverly Allen McKenzie, known as Al or Allen. They came here from County Cork Ireland, through Canada. He worked on the Railroad there. He wore his kilt, til the day he died at the age of 100 or 101. We were also told he had a brother that stopped and stayed in Kentucky on their way across the US. If anyone can shed some light on this please, I appreciate it greatly.

Early 1800's marriage of Edward McKenzie and Ann Gallagher, Co. Cork, Ireland

On 5-1-1839 Thomas Makenzy, son of Edward Makenzy and Ann Goliher (Gallagher) was baptized in the RC parish of Glanworth. The family was living in the townland of Ballynamongaree, which would have been the home of Ann. That seems to be the only child they had there. It is possible that this was their youngest child as records did not begin before 1840 in many parishes (1836 for Glanworth). Sponsors for the Baptism were Martin Gallagher and Mary Barry. Is anyone researching this family?
(According to records in indexes the name was spelled as Makenzy, Makenzie, McKenzie, Makensey etc.

To all Mckenzie ancestry. My family traces back to the 8 Mckenzie brothers who immigrated to the eastern seaboard of the US and migrated north and south at that time. My uncle Lacy Mckenzie has traced this lineage back to the United Kingdom and I think that he also traced our lineage back to royal ancestry. If anyone has every heard of this story about the 8 brothers please let me know something. I will try to help any way that I can.

Their daughter, Margaret, married John W. Magruder, and from there on everything is in order. I have information on Allegany County McKenzies, but cannot find for certain who the parents of Margaret McKenzie Porter were. Thanks to all.

John B. McKenzie's mother died 1922 in Nevada County, Arkansas

Seeking identification and additional family information about the Mrs. McKenzie buried in 1922 at Shady Grove Cemetery in the Redland community of Nevada County, Arkansas.

MRS. McKENZIE – died 3-25-1922. This grave was not found during cemetery surveys and appears to be unmarked. A death notice appearing in the March 30, 1922 “Redland News” column of the Nevada News says: “Jno. McKenzie’s mother died at his home Saturday. Her remains will be interred at Shady Grove Cemetery on Monday.”

Note that Jno. McKenzie probably was the J. B. McKenzie referred to in the following “Nevada County Picayune” item on Dec 20, 1917: “Lost – One pair small work mules 8 to 10 years old. Strayed from J. B. McKenzie’s place, December 12. Please phone Will Hannah, M. L. Moore or Nat Martin [who all lived at Redland].”

Note also that the maiden name of Lula Riggs (wife of Sherman Riggs of Redland) was McKenzie / McKinzie, and she was born in 1900. It is feasible that the Mrs. McKenzie buried at Shady Grove is Lula’s mother or aunt. Lula’s siblings were Rosie, Leon, Floyd and Lee McKenzie. Lula‘s brother Leon is mentioned in a news item in the March 19, 1925 “Redland” community column of the “Picayune”: “Mr. Leon McKenzie and Miss Ellen Rogers were married Saturday.”
In reading the 1773 deed which describes George buying land in South Carolina I saw Georges last name spelled several ways. Could these Georges be the same fellow?
Thanks,
Bruce

Mc Kenzie, Margaret, Jean, William, Robert

Hello, My grandmother Margaret and her sister Jean McKenzie were evidently adopted as orphans, by their mothers sister Barbara. I am not sure of her surname but she married an Austrian and they ran an hotel in Aberdour. Jean sailed from Glasgow to New York New York on the 'Caledonia'in 1909. Her father was recorded as being Robert McKenzie his address 55, High Street, Forres. Margaret married my grandfather Andrew Naismith of Leith.
I would so much appreciate any leads, I am stuck!
McKenzie - crossed out on passenger list

I believe I have found a relative William McKenzieand son Wm McKenzie age 10, on the Peruvian, ships passenger list at the Canadian archives
http://www.collectionscanada.ca/archivianet/passenger/001045...
The ship shows under the dates March 10and 11, 1884, It originated from Liverpool but on the last page there is a list of passengers that embarked at Londonderry. Willaim and his son are listed, but then crossed out. I have search ships before and after and am coming up empty handed. William signed homestead papers in Canada in April 1884, so he got here somehow. anybody have any suggestions as to what may have happened or where I could look next
thanks
Elaine
