I'm searching for the parents and siblings of Lemuel McKnight, born in 1774. Lemuel (my 5th great-grandfather moved to Montpelier, VT and raised his family there.

Recently I found the article below and am hopeful that Reuben and Lemuel are brothers but I haven't found the link yet.

If you have any information, please feel free to contact me. mrs.rapmep@verizon.net

Dianthia R. McKnight of Grafton: She was born in Sutton, Mass., a daughter of Reuben and Sarah (Dudley) McKnight. Her Grandfather, Thomas McKnight, came to this country from England with the British army during the Revolutionary War. His sympathy being shortly enlisted in behalf of the struggling colonists, he boldly and deliberately deserted, and after many hardships and narrow escapes from his pursuers he succeeded in joining the American forces. He fought for independence until the close of the war. He settled in Dudley, Mass. He married Annie Stewart, who was the mother of 27 children, 24 of whom lived. Reuben was the youngest.

Yes, he is a haplogroup 12c so the universe is not large, but he is very close to the ydna of John McKnight born Ireland 1725. He is off by one alelle. Our paper trail comes to a brick wall in 1764 with the birth of David Wilkerson so I have been suspicious that there may have been a name change or some other event to account for this.

I am so happy to have found this thread. My husband is a Wilkerson. However, his Ydna and that of his kin since about 1764 do not match that of other Wilkersons but comes very close to matching that attributed to one John McKnight, born 1725 in North Ireland and who died in 1768 in Pa. I would love to know of any living male McKnights with known descendency from John McKnight with whom we can compare Ydna results. Look forward to hearing from someone out there!
The hospice thrift shop where I volunteer has received an old photo album. Some of the names that I have found are Ella McKnight and George C. McKnight. There is also J.F. Patterson. I long to get these lovely old photos to the right family. There are 18 of them.......all seem to be in Pennsylvania.

If anyone is part of this family, please be in touch.

Lee, My family line is William McKnight and Jane Creech McKnight from Harlan Co Ky. After 1870 William and Jane disappear from the census reports. According to a Great Grandson, William got into some trouble in Harlan and left in the middle of the night, never to be seen again. Have you hear of any family stories about that?

Many on ancestry have then dead after 1870. I ave located two children of John and Lidda Bowling McKnight and one of Selah McKnight and a Dixon. All three Grandchildren, Chester Arthur,Nannie and John Dixon are on the same census page, with different families in Leslie County Kentucky in 1900. Two are living with Bowlings and Nannie with a Sizemore. They, John's children or the census taker spelled their name as McNite.

Have you checked out the book, THE MCKNIGHT FAMILY AND THEIR DESCENDANTS ALSO THE WALACE, ALEXANDER AND ENGLISH FAMILIES by Mrs. Texarado McKNIGHT Peak. Mrs. Peak was born 1895 and died 1990 and lived in Texas. Her father was Richard Henry Lee McKnight (1845-1927). Try the LDS Family History Center for a copy of the book. Perhaps you will find something in her book. Sorry I could be of no help to you.

My great grandfather was Theodore Vanderspool also born 1908. Do you have names of sisters of your grandfather? I have Janice, Carolyn (Kay), and Delores. Let me know if we are chasing the same family, how neat that would be. Unfortunately I don't have a Martha in my records but I am just getting going. I could send you what I have and perhaps we could help each other out.

Chris -- Indiana
