I am on Facebook under Louise Mclaren and have a 'Mclaren Clan' website on my page - anyone can join - lots of experienced people with information on ancestry on it. Contact me or become a member by looking it up. My profile is my son and 'Uncle Jimmy Love' - my son is wearing his war medals and hat from para=troopers (War Veteran who died on 27th February). Please contact me to made friends and I can re-direct you if you need any help. I have done a family tree but don't know of a 'Colin'. My son's ancestors are from Crief in Perth - Scotland and from Netherton farm in Blackford in Scotland. macloui1@hotmail.co.uk

McLaren in Upstate New York from Scotland

My mother in-law passed away and I am now the keeper of old documents and pictures. I have a very small notebook that her mother wrote notes in and I've not been able to connect to our family yet.
My husband's g. mother was Doris Elizabeth Howe b. 1895, Mccomb, NY, d. 6/1971 in Gourverneur, NY.
Doris's Grandmother was Elizabeh McLaren b. abt. 1826 according to 1870 and 1880 Census, in New York State, with both parents being from Scotland. She died 1899, in Gouverneur, NY. Her husband's name was Skeen Smith Howe, who was born in Scotland.

I have not been able to locate any earlier records on Elizabeth McLaren; however I have this very small notebook and I'm hoping someone can help me connect or this will help someone else.

Isabella McLaren died May 30, 1847 she was 30yrs and 2 mos.
Ann McLaren died Jan 13, 1836
Colin McLaren died Dec 29, 1835.

Isabell died May 30, 18476 age 30 years 2 mos.
Ann wife of Colin McLarson died Jan 13 1836 age 67
Colin McLaren Dec 29. 1935 age 50 years

I'm guessing that maybe Isabell is a daughter of Ann and Colin and that would mean she is also a sister to Elizabeth McLaren?

It might help to know that Skeen Smith Howe was from Cortachy Scotland...I have a letter of his good character dated March 1849 signed my James Watt, I think a minister and also a William Gyfe, ? Clk I think it says.

- Marie

Hi there, I'm researching family history and wondered if during your own research you had came across an Alex or Alexander McLaren who was posted to Dumfries and Galloway during the evacuation of chlidren during 1939.
I believe he was working/teaching/caretaking with blind children during that time and was posted to Polbae House near Newton Stewart in Wigtownshire
I know my request is a bit sparse but hoping to find out a bit more!

Kind Regards

John

Hello
I am a decendant of William McLaren (Pictou N.S.) whom I believe was brother to James. I have access to an original letter written from James in Jamaica in March of 1832 to William in Pictou that mentions the uprising. I have no other info on James nor do I know his parents or William's parents. You can view my McLaren tree on ancestry.ca . Look forwad to hearing from you.\Murray McLaren

Dear Dawn,

I need to confirm a couple of facts;

I had an Aunt called "Millie" which I believe is your Mother "Amelia"?

Your Father was always known to me as "Uncle Keith" although his first name is actually "William"?

You have a younger Sister called "Janice"

You lived is "Sandy, Beds"?

If the above facts are correct then I am your cousin John, the son of your Mother's eldest Brother John McLaren Young and we lived in Mile Road, Bedford. I had researched family going back several generations until I could go no further, so I recently commissioned a geneologist to validate my findings and further research the family. I have the family histories of "Young", "McLaren" and "Hynde", I would be more than happy to send you copies of the information I have. Please could you forward details of the information you have so that I can validate the connection, especially details of your Mother Amelia, Elizabeth and James.

Regards

John McLaren Young

Came across this while doing some research on one branch of my family. Wanted to know if anyone out there has a Janet McLaren born around 1794 I believe in Balquhidder,Perthshire,Scotland. Married to a Peter McMillan from Killin ,Perthshire Scotland. They were married around 1819. Had I believe a son John,1820,Duncan,1822 in Perthshire, they then signed a contract to come to Canada as settlers in McNab Twp.Renfrew Co. On.Canada and emigrated in 1825. Later had more children here.Would appreciate any assistance in finding if possible who her parents were, and his parents.

I am trying to find out what happened to my Gt.Gt.Grandfather, John, who was living in Mercer St, Kincardine the night of the 1841 census. With him were his wife Elizabeth (a.k.a. Betsy) McQueen, their children Elizabeth, Margaret, Daniel and Marion. Also Betsy's mother, Elizabeth.
Between that night and March 1846, Betsy became a widow but I can find no trace of John's death. (In March '46 she applied for Poor Relief in Kincardine and is described as a widow.)
Does anyone have any information about this family, and especially John?
Many thanks.......

Looking to find info on my GGGGG Grandfather John McLaren(may have been spelled MacLaren at this point).
I know he was born about 1785 in around Perthshire. Unsure of his death(sometime between 1851 and 1871 in Canada.)
From what I have been able to gather, he had 4 children with an "Ann" Dewar. Not certain if this is her actual first name as there are refrences to an Annie Dewar as well.
Children are as follows:
Alexander b. March 1811 Balquhidder
Catherine b. May 1815 Balquhidder
Ann b. March 1817 Findo-Gask
Robert John Robertson b. May 1827 Dunning

I am decended from Robert John Robertson McLaren, just trying to see how far back we go.
On an added note Ann Dewar died October 1877 in Renfrew Ontario, Canada.

Hope someone can find info. Cheers

Archibald McLaren

Hi Folks I'm looking for info on a Archibald McLaren who married a Catherine Lamb in 1806. I believe Archibald was one of the "Moss Lairds" as his address is written as Kirklane on the marriage certificate. I think he emigrated to Canada sometime before 1814 as he doesn't show up on the moss census and his son another Archibald was born in St John NB though ended up coming back to Scotland.

If anyone has anymore info on this particular Archibald McLaren or Catherine Lamb and can help me find out place and date of birth or parentage it would be much appreciated as I would really like to trace this line back further but seem to have hit a bit of a brick wall.

Kind Regards,

Ross

Hello James.
I've just picked up on an old post of yours and the names you list are very familiar. I've only just started my search so this is all very new to me. My grandfather was John James McLaren, born in Glasgow in 1901. He had a sister Rose and a sister Kathleen, who married a Kinsey. He also had a brother Jimmy and another one called Joe. He lived in Mentone Crescent, Wythenshawe and worked as a newspaper printer's assistant. His wife's name was Mary (nee Farrell). Is it likely that we are connected?
Julie Ebenezer (nee McLaren)

MY mother was Dorothy Guiney. She had a picture of her Grandmother on her mom's side the McLaren's. Her husband Grampa Sandy is stanging behind her as is her daughter Edith (my mom's mom) and her son, I think his name was Charlie. The picture is taken off of Wharncliffe, behind where the Dairy Queen is now located. It was where his house was. My mom went to Brick Street school and her mom is buried in that cemetary.

John R. McLaren, 64, of Girard,pa,
died Saturday, June 11, 2011, at UPMC Hamot,
He was born in Butler, Pa., son of Louise Sinz McLaren of Clifton Park, N.Y. and the late Fred McLaren. Raised and educated in Butler, John graduated from Butler High School ('64), where he was an athlete who excelled in basketball. John then attended Slippery Rock State College (now university) and he played point guard for the Rockets. While earning a Bachelor's of Science Degree in health and physical education, John served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict. He later received his Master's Degree in education. John taught faithfully from 1970 to 1999 in the Girard School District, where he instructed students in health and physical education. He shared his gifts as a coach in Girard, leading teams in football and baseball. On the basketball court, Coach McLaren's childhood passion became the pinnacle of his coaching career. He led boys teams to multiple championships and began the Girard girls basketball program—a program that also enjoyed much success. An avid outdoorsman, John enjoyed time on Lake Erie with family and friends. He was a patriotic American who took great pride in serving and loving his country. His greatest source of inspiration came from his devoted wife, his adoring twin daughters and his five beautiful grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife and high school sweetheart, Betty Jo "BJ" Reed McLaren, whom he married September 3, 1966 in Butler; his twin daughters, Kristen McLaren Treu and her husband, Steve, of Cranberry Twp., Pa., and Kelly McLaren-Olin and her husband, Joshua Olin of Medina, Ohio; and five grandchildren, Austin, Veridy, and Aidan Treu, and Cameron and Bailey Olin; as well as Louise McLaren, John's beloved mother. John's other surviving loved ones include a sister, Nancy Morse and her husband, Frank, of Florida; three brothers, Ron McLaren and his wife, Patty, of New York, Fred McLaren and his wife, Dawn, of California, and David McLaren and his wife, Jeanette, of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. John was also fond of and grateful for his many caregivers, who became extended family to him. Friends may call on Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Daniel R. Edder Funeral Home, 309 Main St. East, Girard, PA. Services will be held there on Thursday at 10 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Anthony Alleruzzo officiating. Memorials may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 2115 W. 8th St., Erie, PA 16505.
(in the Erie Times-News on June 13, 2011 )

Don't think there is any family link but have a suggestion to make
a. get the 1954 death certificate for John, if you don't already have it somewhere
(if nothing else you may get a date of birth from it, which will help to narrow down the year of birth, there are 7 John McLaren's born in Stirlingshire between 1873 and 1875, none in Larbert specifically)
Plus,
Check out the 1881 census for John and his family, try to find siblings etc.. Trace them through the relevant census
records etc. You may well then be in a position to cross reference parentage of siblings incl maiden name of mother. (Either through marriage or death records via Scotlandspeople).
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
June

I'm looking for information on Henry McLaren (or McLernon), born 28 Aug 1852 in Ireland. I'm also looking for the earlier generations: Henry's father James McLaren/McLernon/McClernon (born about 1816 in Ireland), Henry's mother Ann McComb (born about 1825 in Ireland), Henry's grandfather (Henry McLernon/McClernon, born in Ireland).

Thank you!
