I realize that I'm responding to a post that was made over 10 years ago, but I am working on my family tree and Martha Freeman was my Grandmother. Her first husband was Thomas McMinn. After he died, she married Allen New. I'm looking for more information on her first husband, Thomas McMinn.

If you still have copies of the book you mentioned in 2008 I would be interested in its contents. I appoligize for not writing sooner but I lost my son about that time and then I became very ill and haven't been doing family history until now. Would appreciate any info you might have on a Thomas McMinn and Mary Black or any Thomas McMinn that went to Nova Scotia in teh 1700's. Thank you.

My Gggggrandfather was Thomas McMinn. He claimed to be a Georgia Loyalist with 5 motherless children who removed to Nova Scotis. They were in N. S. when his son married in 1799. I have Andrew's will. He was born about 1761 or before. The only Thomas I could find with the same children's names I found in PA with Thomas's father's name John. I don't know if it is the right Thomas or not. He married a Mary Black.

In my family I have Robert McMinn and Mary Buck McMinn. He was born in 1700 in Scotland and died in 1758 in Lancaster Co., Pa. His wife was born in 1710 in Perth, Perthshire, Scotland so I assume he was too. His father was William McMinn and his mother was Margaret (surname unknown). Samuel G. "Demps" McMinn Jr., 86, of West Newton and recently a resident of Westmoreland Manor, died Monday, July 25, 2011. He was born March 26, 1925, in West Newton, a son of the late Samuel G. McMinn Sr. and Anna (Miller) McMinn. Prior to his retirement as a lead lineman, he was employed by West Penn Power for 38 years. A veteran of World War II, he served in the Navy. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and the VFW Post No. 7812, both in West Newton. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Kathleen (Crossland) McMinn; five children, Jill Strider, of Maryland, Patricia Luzi and husband, Armand, Samuel G. McMinn III, Robin Libbos and husband, Joel, and Lisa Zaken and husband, David, all of West Newton; nine grandchildren, Jaime LePage and husband, Bryan, Armand A. GILLETTE — Funeral services for William “Duff” McMinn, 81, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 23, 2011, at Gillette Memorial Chapel with Pastor Wes Smith of New Life Wesleyan Church officiating.

Cremation has taken place.

He died Sunday, June 19, 2011, at Gillette Memorial Hospital of natural causes.

Mr. McMinn served in the United States Army for eight years and was honorably discharged in 1958.

Memorials may be sent in Mr. McMinn’s name in care of the Gillette Memorial Chapel, 210 W. 5th St., Gillette, WY 82716.

His father was Monard Roy McMinn, Roy had 2 other brothers and 2 other sisters but I do not know their names. I would love it if you could shed light on this so I can go further. I know we came from Tenn. and settled here in Lamar County.

Theadosia Mcminn is in some info I have. I have her listed in a William McMinn in Idaho who is a bother to my ggrandmother Mary Jane McMinn. I received info from one of his grandchildren.

I also have an McMinn Ancestory named John Andrew McMinn, who was in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. He owned a brick making business where the Hospital is now located. I found all I could in Canada records but don't know where he came from.

I have an original 6”x8” photograph of “Helen Margaret Waldorf”, taken at her christening when she was about 5 months old, at the end of 1912. I’d like to get back the photo back to descendants or family members. Photo was taken in Mendota, LaSalle Co., IL.

I found Helen Waldorf in the 1920 census of Mendota, LaSalle Co., IL, showing she was age 7, daughter of Julius and Ella E. Waldorf. OneWorldTree shows she was born 17 Jul 1912 and died 29 Sep 2003 in Rock Island Co., IL. She married Ralph Herbert McMinn in 1945. Her parents were Julius Waldorf and Elizabeth Ella Faber.

My Mum&Dad were born&Married there they had 6 children Enid (she died after a few weeks) Brian,Ian,Leslie & twins Cheryl & Julie. Dad(Bernard)went to the tech college before he joined the Royal Navy. Mum was Ellen Pendlebury from I believe a large family also lived very close to Haydock race course. Dads younger brother jimmy is buried in Wargrave Mem. Park. Newton-Le-Willows.His sister Mary married Jim conner ( I think) and emigrated to America.

I have a Marget McMinn b. abt 1846, her father was William McMinn who was a labourer from Dungannon, County Tyrone

Margret married John Greer on the 17th July 1866 in Drumglass Church of Ireland, Dungannon, Tyrone. (Their ages were given as MINOR under 21 on the marriage record).

They had two children
Unknown Male Greer b. 28 June 1868 Dungannon
Mary Jane Greer b 16th December 1870 Dungannon

Something must have happened to Magret as John remarried on the 27 Jan 1874 to Elizabeth Burnside. They had a child Sarah Anne Greer b. 1875 d. 1960

Irene had resided in Lock Haven,pa, since 1955
and was a member of the Covenant United Methodist Church. She belonged to a local non-denominational Bible study group and several bridge clubs in the area. Mrs. McMinn had been a charter member of the Lock Haven Branch of the AAUW and was actively involved on the Millbrook Playhouse board in the '60s and '70s. She enjoyed knitting and braiding rugs and was an avid reader of mystery novels.
She was united in marriage to Chester P. McMinn on July 23, 1942. He preceded her in death on Nov. 12, 2005.
Survivors include two daughters, Stephanie A. McMinn of Lock Haven and Sally M. (Gene) Kelley of Jersey Shore; four grandchildren, D. Andrew (Jessie) Snyder of Stockton, N.J., Thomas P. (Paige) Terrill of McElhattan, Stacey M. (Aaron) Mosley of Dumfries, Va. and Asa E. Kelley of Bloomsburg; six great-grandchildren, three nieces and a nephew.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Susan K. Snyder in 2007, two sisters, a niece and a nephew.

This is my Aunt. She was a sweet lady who raised three of her grandchildren by babysitting other children. She lost both of her own children before she passed. My Mom watched over her in her last years while she was in a nursing home in Ackerman, Ms. I miss going to visit her when in Ackerman.

My grandmother is Cora McMinn, born in Walkerton, Ontario, 1894. Her parents were James McMinn and Sarah Hodgins. Coincidentally her father had a brother by the name of Joseph born 1857 in Howick. Their parents were John and Margaret. Any relation?
I'm still not certain about their Irish location but I can tell you that most McMinns were "planted" in Northern Ireland by James I, being Protestants. They came from Kirkcudbrightshire in Scotland.

I am a McMinn who is living in Western Canada, however I was born in Ontario. Where was your grandmother born in Ontario?

My family lineage is from the Townland of Mullaghmarget in the Parish of Tullyniskan, County of Tyrone, N. Ireland. However, Donaghmore is closeby in Tyrone.

These are people from Ulster and there was much back and forth from Ireland to Scotland...not sure which applies, but Ulster they were.

I am a McMinn residing in Canada (near Calgary). I will help if I can...many McMinns and their descendents are living here, spread across North America. My particular branch of McMinns came to North America from the Townland of Mullaghmarget, Parish of Tullyniskan, in the County of Tyrone, Northern Ireland. However, I am related to McMinns who ended up in such diverse places as Ontario, New York, Montana etc. One thing about this name is that I have run across various spellings, even amongst my own family: McMinn, McMin, M'Minn, M'Min, McMuin, M'Muin. I suppose this is a result of either translation or literacy issues. Since I am the oldest son of the oldest son, etc., I have inherited the task of researching this tree from where my father left off when he passed away last year in his 86th year. For the County of Tyrone, there is a headstone project to which I have submitted some of our ancestors who are buried here in North America. See: http://tammymitchell.com/cotyrone
You may want to submit some of yours if they originate there.
Tullyniskan appears to have been an area where many McMinns resided in N.Ireland for some time, from the 1600's to 1900's. After about 1910, the thread there all but disappears, apparently either due to emigration or to the disruption caused by WWI. There are McMinns listed on the Honour Rolls in Tyrone, i.e. as casualties in WWI or for service in WWI. However, there appears to have been McMinns in Tyrone since 1600 (not sure of their lineage). I have been in direct contact with the Parish of Tullyniskan and they have sent me the births, baptisms, marriages and deaths for McMinns in the Parish. This is valuable info since most of the national archive records were destroyed by a tragic fire. Let me know if I can help.

Frank McMinn, son of the late Louie and Ruby Manes McMinn, was born March 12, 1931, in Dell, Ark., and passed away Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2010, at Arkansas Methodist Hospital in Paragould, Ark., at the age of 79.

He married Eulva Johnson, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Jackie Wimberly; a brother, R.L. McMinn and a sister, Hazel Rhody.

On Feb. 15, 2005, in Senath, Mo., he married Patsy Britt.

Survivors include his wife, Patsy McMinn, of Cardwell, Mo.; two sons, Johnny F. McMinn and wife, Patricia, and Ricky McMinn and wife, Sherry, all of Arbyrd, Mo.; one daughter, Ronnie Hollis and husband, Freddie, of Arbyrd; three sisters, Mary Ransom and Faye Jones, both of Cardwell and Sue Frye, of Paragould; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, and other relatives and many friends.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m., Friday, Aug. 20, and continue until service time at 3 p.m.

After 30 years, he retired from the City of Warner Robins as City Clerk and Treasurer. While in office he worked with eight mayors. He was on the board of directors of the Joint Municipal Employee's Retirement System. He was the recipient of the Warner Robins Area Chamber of Commerce's Good Government Service Award in 1983. I am Terisia G. McMinn(Mote) of Texas daughter of William Gerald McMinn, he is the son of Roy Monard McMinn wife Rose Etta McMinn (Irwin) of Texas, Roy is the Son of a John McMinn wife Suzie of Tn. We came to Texas from Tn when John McMinn Passed away. Suze was said to have 4 children this is uncertain at this moment. If you have any information of these people I would be grateful for it. I am Terisia G. McMinn, I am from Texas. My gg greatrand parents came from TN. It was told that our gg grandmother'name was Suzie she moved us here to texas from TN. Is there any relation you might know of her husband name was John McMinn. My grandfathers name is Roy Monard McMinn his wife is Rose Etta Irwin. I am Terisia G. McMinn from Texas. My grandfather talked about family from there and how we got here in Texas. It was told that their grandmother was from the town you are speaking of and I am also looking to make this connection with our family tree. My gg grand mothers name was Susie McMinn she married a John McMinn from this town and was it was told that her husband had died and was haing a hard time trying to make end meet and was thinking of moving in town and her father in law ash her not to move the children and she was asked to stay on their farm and her father in law would marry her and help her raise the children. Thomas McMinn was married approx three times. He married 18 Feb 1840 to Parria Nichols, then again 16 Jul 1843 to Mary Tindall, who I believe is the Mary Benson listed on his tomb stone. The 1840 census shows that there were only 2 females in the home. This would account for his daughter Nancy who marries Roswell Sutton and his new wife Parria Nichols. This is an indication that Mary Benson is not the mother of Nancy McMinn.

Looking for info on first wife and mother of Nancy, Andrew, George and Joseph.

Thomas R. McMinn

NEW BLOOMFIELD - Thomas R. McMinn of Maple Lane, New Bloomfield, died on Sunday, May 30, 2010 at his home. He was born February 29, 1980 in Harrisburg and was 30.

He was an employee of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, a member of the Duncannon Fire Co. and enjoyed motorcycles.He was a member of he Sons of The American Legion, Duncannon.

Surviving are wife, Jana (Foutz) McMinn; a daughter, Myra Rose McMinn; step daughters, Paige Little and Taylor Little all at home. His parents, James R. Jr. and Debra A. McMinn of Duncannon; two brothers, Michael McMinn of Carlisle and Brian McMinn of Duncannon.

Services will be held at 11 AM on Friday, June 4, 2010 in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Cold Storage Road. Burial will be in Bloomfield Cemetery, New Bloomfield. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service.

The family requests that memorial contributions, to help with funeral expenses be sent to, Boyer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 11, New Bloomfield, Pa. 17068

Charles: I saw your query re McMinn of Scots-Irish heritage. Below is a website that has lots of information and cites publications in British Isles re possibilities of being listed in various places as being a ship’s passenger. Concentrates on the Irish but Scots included in most. Colonial era is a subheading. Lots of subheadings of various subjects. Info on early Presbyterian Church sects included. Be prepared to get caught up in the whole thing!

The McMahon name has an explanation of how it came to be that surname.

I am interested in any early 1700s McMinn/variations being found on a ship to South Carolina and wonder about an Irish or Scots connection.

My father-in-law was David McMinn and his dad was Andrew McMinn the very man you put photos of on this website. We have the same photos and a very good one of his wife Elizabeth.
