Hiya Denise

Thinking it might be a different family now. Our William McMurray's parents were William P. McMurray & Mary!? I know the dad from Williams marriage cert and the mum subsequently from a census. if your lineage is correct it may be a different family. Let me know your source and I'll double check it

Kind regards

Hello. Great to hear from you. I am a researcher and I have been working with the family over the last couple of months trying to piece together their full background. I came to a huge stumbling block with the McMurrays as William only appears on one of the census returns. I am guessing that by the time of the next he had already embarked on a carear at sea. But again I cant find any crew lists with him on! I know he served on the Baltic as he won a medal for bravery whilst serving onboard.I have permission off another to pass on their email but I am not willing to do it on the messageboard. So please message me and we'll get you two in contact. Did you know that the recent BBC Documentary shown on BBC 1 Liverpools Titanic Girl was about the family? There is also an exhibition in Liverpools Maritime Museum featuring a letter from William McMurrays daughter May which inspired the recent Sea Odyssey event in Liverpool. Any information you can pass on regarding the McMurrays would be very gratefully received ;0)

I've looked at an index of births marriages and deaths and the only child of theirs that can be traced is Ivy McMurray. She married Thomas Housley in 1928. She died in 1987. It appears that the family remained in the Liverpool area. You would have to call the Housley's in the Liverpool area or buy death certificates and get the dates and check the newspapers for particulars about the family. If you want more details contact me through my website.

McMurray - Amragh, Ireland
My ancesters Robert McMurray came to Delaware County, NY in 1803 and George McMurray in 1815. Georges sworn oath says he left Newry in the year 1815 at the age of 23.

Georges father John and mother Jane Hutchinson, brothers Henry and Hutchinson and sister Esther came on the Louisa 14 Jun 1825 to Delaware County, Town of Kortright, NY state. In 1951 Henry, John, and Hutchinson and all their children are found in Mercer Co. PA.

There may be a connection here but my main interest is in finding out how to locate any document If there is any showing George McMurray and his wife Dorothy on a ship to America. I have strong evidence that George's wife Jane Miller is Robert and Dorothys daughter and came with them from Ireland. I am pretty sure there was a son Robert. I have legal documents but cannot find information to age and date of death.

Also do you have any idea how to do research in Armagh,IRE?

My uncle John McMurray did a DNA sample but this has not been very helpful so far.

Barbara in NY

Hi Cecile - I am from Russell MB... I was the 3rd generation born there. William Blaine McMurray and Elizabeth Anne McMurray (nee MacDonald) were my great grandparents. Growing up, we were the only McMurrays in town. (Its a small town, everyone knows everyone). I don`t have any George`s in my family tree notes, but email me at ramcmurra@hotmail.com if you'd like to compare family trees, might be we can find the connection.
Robyn McMurray

Hello,
Just wondering if you have found information on the McMurray's you were researching? I recall my great-Aunt Ruby Thompson (nee McMurray) telling me about E.J. McMurray - she figured he was her father's (William Blaine McMurray) 2nd cousin, but never really elaborated on the connection, so I'm not sure how we fit into the family tree. My McMurrays did come from Ireland (not sure where), - Michael McMurry immigrated sometime before 1835 and married a Clarissa Whaley (or Whalen). They settled in Ontario, and later on their grandchildren came west (to Manitoba and Saskatchewan). I've got their children as James, John, Sam, ELizabeth, Claressa, Mary, Bernard and Michael. Bernard was my gr-great grandfather. Bernard married a Sarah Blain (quite literally, the girl next door), and they had 6 sons and 3 daughters - Clare Emma (Clara), Sam, James (Jim), Bernard (Barney), William Blaine, Albert (Abe), John, Margaret and Sarah May. Please let me know if there is a connection to your family tree - I'd love to compare notes.
ramcmurra@hotmail.com
Robyn McMurray

Bernard married a Sarah Blain (quite literally, the girl next door), and they had 6 sons and 3 daughters - Clare Emma (Clara), Sam, James (Jim), Bernard (Barney), William Blaine, Albert (Abe), John, Margaret and Sarah May. Please let me know if there is a connection to your family tree - I'd love to compare notes.
ramcmurra@hotmail.com
Robyn McMurray

I just read the question re Maude Noble's second husband who was a McMurry. I don't know if this is any help - my father was William Carl McMurray from Rising Sun. He was an only child. I am 76. Dad was born in 1908, married Shirley Daughtery. After they divorced when I was in Grade 7, he did remarried but his seconf wife's name wasn't Maude. I don't believe. They had a son and a daughter who I never met. His father, also William McMurray, married Zada Meade, dad's mother. They later divorced and he married a woman named Martha. After she died, he married Antoinette ? and lived in Madisonville, a suburb of Cincinnati, Ohio.

I've been able to follow the line back to Ephraim McMurray born Scotland 1730? Possibly Ireland. Son was John McMurray 7/14/1754 married to Agness, son Alexander McMurry born 1784 etc. I was wondering if anyone had anymore information on Ephraim, his parents, origin etc. I'm kind of stuck there but I'd like to follow it back further and find out if they originated in Scotland or Ireland or both? Thanks :)

I just now stumbled upon this post about Robert Wesley McMurray. I am his great, great grandson. I have been searching for information regarding him for years without much luck. I have found all the information that you have included (and others in their posts). I know he married 3 times before marrying Minerva Trammel. His wifes before Minvera were Mary Ellen Slover, Frances Norris, and Sarah E. Davis. He had 4 children with Mary Ellen: Hiram, Sarah, Mary and Susan. I understand that he died in December 1905 in Illinois, buried in Winn Cemetery. One of Robert's brothers is Jackson D. McMurray. After Mary Ellen's death, Hiram went to live with his uncle Jackson in Tennessee. If you have any information on robert Wesley McMurray I would appreciate it. Thank you. We were hoping to get closer to tearing down that proverbial wall to his ancestry. Instead we are even more confused!! Are there McCrackens, etc. in the woodpile? We are still trying to find the parents/ancestors of William Logue McMurray b. 1821 in Warren Co., TN and d. 1865 in Rusk Co., TX.

I am looking for information on a James McMurray who landed in Pennsylvania around the late 1740's (b. 1728). His son was William. William's son was John. Any information would be helpful. I'm hoping to somehow find clues on his journey to the States and why he left Ireland.
