Kathryn is listed as being 9 years old in 1920 and born in Colorado. - [In Nebraska girls had to be 16 years old to get married with their parents permission or 21 without permission. Colorado was 12 with, 18 without. A lot of Nebraska girls went to Colorado to get married if under age in Nebraska, or if they were pregnant.
Re: ggggrandfather James or Marquis Mcpherson

I know this is an old post, but am answering anyway... I have no idea where Marquis McPherson came from or lived, and why we have this paperwork in our family possessions, but I have an original paper concerning the US Gov't granting a piece of land to a Marquis A. McPherson "in favor of the state of Maryland to provide Colleges for the benefit of Agriculture and the Mechanic Arts" in the "District of Lands formerly subject to sale at Nebraska City, now Lincoln, Nebraska, containing one hundred and sixty acres." It is also said that the tract of land can be inherited by his heirs.
This was signed on 10 Dec 1868 by J N Granger, recorder of the land office, and a Frank Cowan, Secretary, under Andrew Johnson.
Any insight to this paperwork and why it would be included in the Stroman/Stetson genealogy would be appreciated.

Hi Terry,

Eula and William Fred's parents (my parents called him Uncle Fred) were William Ballard McPherson, born 13 Oct 1849 in Simmondsville, Virginia and died 20 July 1919 in Johnson County, Texas; and Mary Elizabeth Helsey (or Helsley) born 18 Feb 1851 in Johnson County, Texas and died 8 August 1931 also in Johnson County, Texas. Their (Eula and Fred's) siblings were Arra Belle (1876-1967), Henry Oscar (1879-1961), China May (1882-1908), Amanda Earle (1885-1968), and Hattie Lee (1888-1969). Eula was the second youngest (1890-1977) and William Fred was the youngest. My records show that William Fred was born 25 Jan 1893 in Godley, Texas and died 26 Sept 1986 in Lubbock, Texas.

Hope this helps.

Gayle

Dear Gayle, Just saw your post. Would you know the name of your grandmother Eula's father? I am not sure of William Fred (Freddy Forest) McPherson father's name. I would love any information. I am William Fred's grandson. Thanks!

The info I have on William Fred (Freddy Forest) was that he was born in 1893 and went and homesteaded the last of the State land in about 1910 in West Texas. The homestead was right on the Texas New Mexico line between Muleshoe and Portales. Only other thing I know is he was originally from Johnson County. Thanks!

Terry Waller

Hannah McPherson/MacPherson NC/TN

I am looking for information on Joshua Burnham who married Hannah McPherson/MacPherson on 4 Jan 1816 in Williamson Co. By 1840, his widow Hannah was enumerated in Dyer Co, TN, so he died between 1830 and 1840; place of death is currently unknown by me. The 1830 and prior censuses would put his date of birth between 1761 and 1770. I believe he was born in NC; his wife Hannah is shown enumerated with son David in the 1850 census in Dyer Co at age 66, and her stated place of birth is NC, although their children (2 boys and 2 girls at least) appear to have all been born in Williamson Co. Hannah is no longer enumerated with David's family by the 1860 census, so I believe that she passed away before then. It is possible (but unlikely) that she may be living with one of her other children, but I have not been able to find her. Anyone having information on this family - Joshua or Hannah's parents, the names of their other children, actual birth or death dates, which Burnham family Joshua came from in NC, etc. - who is willing to share would be most appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Those are the sites I mentioned. Familysearch.org has kept that name for 10+ yrs but the other has changed urls every few yrs though the may have stayed the same. Being cheap, I just print out the lists unless I have special interest. There isn't much more on the details that isn't on the list. The lists are great just to have since they are all individuates for a surname, place and time range. I set the query to provide multiple pages. Full pages are the best buy. More names are better than not enough.

No I was referring to Campbell McPherson Born in Stenton, East Lothian, Scotland circa 1840. I do not have access to my notes or I could give you his baptism date. He married twice and died outside Cork as a well to do distiller of fine Irish Whiskey. He had expanded his small empire to include a saw mill run by his son in law. His mother was a Campbell. On his father's side his great uncle was the 'Red Murdoch' McPherson, the bodyguard to Prince Charlie while the prince was in Scotland. Murdock was very likely the cattleman for Cluny McPherson the most powerful of the McPherson chiefs. Cattlemen protect the laird's cattle and are the second most powerful man under the laid. His has the authority to lead the laird's men into battle to get back stolen cattle and punish the guilty.

Cluny was blamed for the second Jacobite rebellion since he spoke for maybe 40-50 highland clans. After the battle was lost both he and Charlie had 10,000 pounds of silver reward on their heads. Silver was more valuable than gold is today. Neither was caught.

If this is the same Colin Campbell McPherson, he was born in 1885. He did many things in his life including boxing, stage coach driver, owned a Habberdashery, tailor, and mens clothier at the Peoples Store in Pocatello, Idaho. His son, David McPherson is my father. Colin Campbell McPherson did live his uncle, James Ramsey McPherson after his parents died of TB. He had a sister named Anne.

Parents were James McPherson from Aberdeen, Scotland, and Susannah/Susan Mary Halloran.
John emigrated to Australia and I believe his descendents may still live in Melbourne.

Just got our computer back after it being "ill" since around Christmas... have done a very brief reading on the subject, and think their presence in France MAY have had to do with the Jacobite Rising, and the attempt to place James the Something back on the throne. Need to find a clearly written explanation of this whole situation and sit down and read it over several times to clarify it in my feeble brain, but think it might have some bearing. Have you done any further searching since our conversation? I'm very eager to learn why our McPhersons were in France in 1715, and even more would like to know who posted the data in the first place, and where they got their information! Stay in touch.
Carla

I am still stuck on this. I can't quite wrap my brain around it....still playing with the military angle. BUT this was also around the time that some Scots would have been supporting the Pretender to the British throne and HE would have been hanging out in France so maybe there was a Scottish contingent in France???? Maybe it was more a religion issue than a military one? Britain and Scotland had only been united for a few years and I imagine the Scots didn't like a protestant king. It IS a puzzle.

NateDave, I'm sorry that I have no record of your Charles Frederick McPherson in my Bible. The only names inscribed in it are those of Susannah's father, Frederick, her mother "Marey Stell herself", and her two older siblings, David, and John, and they are written in the margins. The center pages where normally family records are kept are missing, and I suspect that is where we would have found many more names written. Sorry I can't be of more help to you.

Yes, that is correct. Susannah McPherson was my 3grgrandmother, married to William Kelley. I have info on the direct line from her down to me through her youngest son, Woodson Henry Kelley, and some on his siblings, but not a lot. Would be glad to exchange with you. I have the McPherson family Bible from Susannah's mother. Which of her children are you descended from? Sorry this is so late in responding. In the intervening years since my original post, I've moved to another state and had breast cancer twice, so I've been very neglectful of genealogical correspondence. Thanks.

I am interested in any info on this family pertaining to Robert Mcpherson b. in early 1840's. He is listed on 1880 Galveston, Tx census with wife Phillis and adopted son Will Thompson 6 years old. I am interested in any info about this Will THompson and how he came to be adopted by Robert and Phillis Mcpherson. I also saw on a list of victim of the Galveston Storm of 1900 that Robert was a victim. I would like to know anything you have on this family. I will appriciate any info you might have that would lead me in any direction. I have been searching for the ancestors of William Merrill Thompson for years without much luck. Will was born in 1874 TX and was suppose to have died in Sept of 1900. This Will THompson is listed in June 1900 with his wife Maggie on the 1900 Harris Co. TX census and two daughters. THis is my husband's ancestor. Would love to know if the Will THompson in household of Robert McPherson in 1880 Galveston, TX is WIll THompson listed in 1900 Harris Co. TX. Thanks for any info.
My (Dad) is A.G. Mcpherson's son. They are not my biological, but to me they are. I wish I would have seen this post before now. He really impacted my life in a great way. I miss him.

Ann McPherson b. 1846 in Ontario, was a farmer's wife in Bruce County, Ontario, Canada.

I am trying to find out what I can about my 3rd great-grandmother, Ann McPherson. She was born in Ontario and her parents were Donald and Elizabeth(Betsey) Menzie. She became a farmer's wife in Bruce County, Ontario, Canada.

According to the 1901 census her birthday was Jun 8th, 1846 and in 1866 she married Archibald McMillan. Ann and Archibald had 7 children; Elizabeth 1867-, my 2nd great-grandmother Euphemia(Phebe) 1869-1952, Hester 1870-, Lachlan 1872-, Donald 1873-, Esther Ann 1877-, and George 1890-.

I would love to hear from anyone who knows anything further about Ann's family.

I was disappointed to see that this site doesn't exist any longer as well. I would have liked to look and see if there was anything on either Ann McPherson b.1846 in Ontario and ended up a farmer's wife in Bruce County, Ontario, or her parents Donald McPherson, b.1814 in Scotland and Elizabeth(Betsey) Menzie, b.1823, both emigrated to Canada.

headstones for Alexander J. and Annie McPherson

On 6 Sep 2011 I was at the Riverside Cemetery in Dauphin, Manitoba where my great, great grandparents A.J. and Annie McPherson are buried. I double and triple checked and they are indeed buried there but there are NO HEADSTONES. What a shame for a former mayor of Dauphin in the case of Alex. While I have no idea how many living descendants this couple have, I am sure it is quite a few as they had seven children. I checked out prices at the local granite works in Dauphin and a double headstone would cost anywhere from $700 to $1200, depending on what size and model is chosen. If you are descended from this couple or are just interested in helping, please message me and I will be glad to get an account set up and make arrangements to correct this unfortunate omission. Message me to owenking@hotmail.ca or on here.
