Hello Carolyn and Donna,

I am interested in Theophilus Goodwin and Sofana Meade. Would either of you know if he had a brother or possible cousin, named Henry B. Goodwin. Henry B. Goodwin was married in 1833 in Cabell County, Virginia to Jane Billups, and then lived in Lawrence County, Kentucky beforer he died between 1847 and 1849, leaving his wife, Jane, and three children, Frances (a female), Charles, and Harrison. In the tax lists for 1842 and 1843 in Lawrence County, Kentucky, there is listed only Theophilus and Henry Goodwin, then only Henry till, his wife Jane is on the lists instead of Henry, starting in 1849. I was wondering if there is a connection or is it just a coincidence. please help if you can, email me at Emilysalings@aol.com.
Thank you,
Emily Salings

Hi there, My fathers grandmother was a Lillian Rosemary Meade, born around 1881 in NJ, USA. I believe she had a brother named Maurice, as well as a couple of sisters, maybe Elizabeth, Emma, and Agnes. Her father was John Meade, mother was Hannah Fitzpatrick, both from Ireland.
Does this match anything you have on your Maurice Meade? TXS
Beth

Lucy,
I too have a mysterious Meade in the family. John Meade, born in Ireland around 1850. Married to Hannah Fitzpatrick, Lived in Pennsylvania at some point. Has several children including Lillian Rosemary Meade, Maurice Meade, maybe an Elizabeth and an Emma, or Agnes. Family tales have our John related to General Meade, of which I can find no connection, but then I can not find anything on him at all.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!!
THANKS< Beth

John Flynn m. Elizabeth Meade abt 1830

My Grandfather; John Joseph Flynn 1893-1977. Born in Mass., USA
His Dad; John Joseph Flynn baptized: 1859 in Ballylanders. Married Mary C. Kinnane b: 1866 Galbally, Co. Limerick..
Her parents were Thomas Kinnane & Nora Hanrahan.
John J. Flynn, being the eldest son, left for the US in 1882. John & Mary married in America (1888) and died in the US in Massachusetts. (8 children)
His Dad: Thomas Flynn b. abt. 1838 (Ballyclough, Co. Cork?) married Johanna Leary b. abt. 1840 (Ballyfauskeen, Co. Limerick?) in 1858. (Possibly, 10 children)
Her parents were Daniel Leary and Norah Keefe.
Thomas & Johanna left the Galbally region for the US in 1893 and died in Mass.
Thomas’ Dad; John (O’) Flynn was b. abt. 1795. His mom was Elizabeth Meade b. abt. 1800. (5 known children were; John b. abt. 1819, Edmond b. abt. 1822, Patrick b. abt. 1827, Mary b. abt. 1837, Thomas b. abt. 1838.)
Although the family history claims County Cork as the ancestral home, it seems there are lots of references to Knocklong, Ballylanders, Garyspillane, Tipperary and Galbally area specifically and in general, in records and in family memory. This would have been the most recent ancestral home and, freshest memory. So, the people and history of the entire region is my goal.
ahhh, those Mead, Meade, Meads, and Meades relatives were hard to trace, I'll tell ya! -- They were breeded by the Massie family of Massies Mill, Nelson, Virginia. Namely, William and Thomas Massie. The African American "Mead" family are kin to the Steptoe, and Vaughn/Vaughan families, inherited through the Cocke and Cabell families of Lovingston, and Buckingham.

Many census records assumes Alisha Mead is female.... wrong!... HE is a male, born Sept. 1869 son of Peter Mead, and Mary Vaughn of Massies Mill, Nelson, Virginia

I am looking for information regarding the fact that Olen D. Meade is in fact the person named Glen Dean(Deen) Golden. Olen is the son of Thomas Jefferson Meade (VA) and Laura Glendora Long (MO). His birth place is generally listed as Topeka,KS and his birth date is Oct 10. The birth year ranges from 1888 to 1900. I have a record for Glen D Golden with his parents' names listed as TJ Golden and Laura Walla? ( I can't figure out the last letter) Glen was known to be from Oregon. If anyone has knowledge of this situation and would be willing to explain and help me verify the two as being the same person, I would appreciate it very much. Thanks

Hi Irene!
I have some close cousins living around Palmdale/LA/Canyon Country who are also into genealogy...

My email is danac814@yahoo.com. I am looking for any info on your branch of the family - all I have are the names of Stephen J Mead(e) and America's children and Stephen and Laura's children. Anything you can fill in on that would be Super-great!! -Especially if your dad remembers any family history! My mother remembers your grandfather, but was a young girl when she met him, so doesn't remember much except his name and a few things.

Looking forward to sharing whatever we can!! My tree is listed as the Castor Davis Family tree, so please look at it and take whatever you want!
Dana

Hello Dana,
I'm a great-grand-daughter to Stephen L. Meade. His son was Arthur Eugene Meade, then his son Arthur II is my dad. just saw him this weekend. We are located in Southern California. I'd love to connect with you. I'm so excited. my e-mail is 5beans@roadrunner.com. Please contact me, we can get in touch maybe by phone, too. I haven't been on ancestry for almost a year now, because I got so involved in it, I forgot about the living for a while. But I'd love to get back on & fill any gaps that you can with me.
Thanx Dana,
Your distant cousin,
Irene .

Great!!
1st the Mead(e) surname - on censuses it is both ways. If your dad/grandpa had Meade I would trust his knowledge! The census takers at times spelled it however they wanted. Or, Families changed how they spelled names.

For family info, any information is better than what I have! I am especially looking for where people are buried - trying to find America's death date off her headstone or cemetery records would be great. I don't have anything beyond the names of Stephen and America's children and Stephen and Laura's children. My family tree is listed as Castor-Davis Family tree. If you start a tree PLEASE feel free to take any info off of mine that you want. I will add any information you give me to mine. If you want to email it, my email is danac814@yahoo.com.

Names, birth and death dates, locations etc. THANKS!!

Hello Dana! Yes, Stephen Lee Meade was my father...I don't how much info I can give you I am so new at this. I have dabbled just a little on Ancestry over the years. This past weekend, my husband and I decided to try it for a month...... Holy Smokes it is overwhelming.

I was talking to my friend just yesterday...about America and Laura and wondered if there was a back story or if the same last name was just a coincidence. You answered that question! Grandma Hazel Meade, Stephen H.L.'s wife, gave me some info on Laura many years ago, but now I can't put my hands on the book I had about family. Something about Laura being very well educated...

I will try and help you with info about our family...I don't have a lot of "records" per say. But what I know or have, I will be more than willing to share.

Any thoughts on the spelling of Meade? Dad ALWAYS insisted that Meade was spelled with an "e" on the end, then I run into Mead ????? Then in the 1500 and 1600'a the "e" shows up again? I am confused with that one.

Anyway... let me know what info you want and I will do my best to help. Mary

Well, I can't help much either, but I do have some more traces to add. I am from Robert Meade 1758-1835, buried North Curry, Somerset, England. His son Robert 1792-1863 was a doctor, married twice, daughter from first marriage Elizabeth Penelope Meade later resident in Australia and married a cousin Robert Garnsey Meade. Issue of second marriage included my g-grandmother Mary Hannah Garnsey Meade. The family claim to be connected with the Earls of Clanwilliam of the Irish peerage as well as to General George Gordon Meade. I have yet to establish that either claom is true.

Meade/Mead/Mede
His father: William Minor Mead
His father: William Mead
His father: Thomas Mead.

My mother was the youngest of three children; however, her father and all the grandfathers before him were from large families.

Does any of this sound familiar to you?
Thanks,
Gail

I know I met your Aunt Donna and of course your Grandparents.

Are you the one that put info up about Grandma Hazel Meade? I was so surprised and pleased to see that info. I have some information that Grandma Hazel gave me about the Meade’s and Fry’s... I will have to look for it again....

I have looked at Ancestry. com a few time and have always bee overwhelmed.... my husband, Rod, and I are talking about maybe paying for a 3 month membership so we have more access.

Thanks for answering my post.....
Hi there,

As your post is five years old, I don't know if you will get this but...

I am on the trail of a William Meade, born in New York around 1910. He turned up in a search for other Meade relatives (via the 1930 census).

Any use?

Thanks,

T
