Sarah Meadows married Reuben Kelly, Fayette County, Va/WV

I am a descendant of Edward Meadows who married Sarah Callaway about 1798 in Greenbrier County, VA/WV. My conncetion is thru their son, James who married Rebecca Arthur on Nov. 1, 1830 in Fayette County. In that same year, there is a marriage for a Sarah Meadows who became the 2nd wife of Reuben Kelly on Feb. 1, 1830. After their marriage, Sarah and Reuben left the area and settled in Clark County, Missouri.

I am trying to determine if Sarah and James were brother and sister. Does anyone have a clue? None of the research that I have been able to locate on Sarah and Reuben has no information on her parents.

James did have a sister who married Rebecca's brother, Alexander Arthur but so far, we haven't had any luck in finding a marriage record for them.

Input is greatly welcomed.

Anita McClung
Fayette County, WV

Sarah Ann married him not knowing he was already married to a woman in Arkansas. I am very fortunate to have a copy of a book Gladys (Meadows) Back had written about the family and would be happy to share what I have.

Just a couple of comments. Jan Hensley recently discovered a document that puts the birth of Francis Meadows, Sr. around 1718 rather than the 1730-1738 commonly believed to be his birth years.

Madison C. Meadows moved from West Virginia to Carroll County, VA, where he married his second wife, Hester Ann Williams, on July 26, 1883. They moved to Surry County, NC (Mt. Airy) where he died in April or May of 1910.

Arley Meadows
ameadows@zoominternet.net

Did you mean "exceptions" or "expectations"? Some people expect DNA results will tell if they are are Cherokee, Sioux or Nez Perce and it was 5 generations in the past. I am not sure they can do that but they can tell if there was a native American in your past or not. Bottom line for me: If I thought I had native American ancestors I would certainly test. Then I would try to learn all I could about how to use the DNA test results if I had significant native american results. Hope this clears up the confusion.

Hi Bill, that is amazing that you found that Wolf signed this marriage certificate, does that mean he was a witness, or issued the certificate? What we know of Wolf is he was of Jewish decent. He came to the US from Prussia (now Poland) through Hamburg, Germany. I do have the passenger list & ship name that he traveled on located on Ancestry.com. He was 22. He was married and left the wife behind. The letters that were found from his family, were in Old Hebrew. My Great Aunt sent these to a Rabi in CA, who translated them. This is where we found that his family asking him to return & the wife. Don't know why he came to the US. He married here, had children. His wife passed, and he remarried. He was a merchant and quit wealthy for the time. Lending money to others. During the Civil War, his shipment of goods were stolen by the north. The home he built remained in the family until, my Great aunt sold it a couple decades ago. Wolf is a mystery and would love to find out more of him. I find it amazing how he was connected to the Meadows, my grandmother on my mother's side, surname
Diane

In 1850 he signed the marriage bond when Anderson P Meadows married Malvina Hull. His name was unique which made him easy to trace and curiosity got the best of me. I didn't understand, and still don't, how he got to Monroe County, VA from Prussia, Poland or Russia as he seemed to be there all alone. Marriage bonds were usually signed by someone very close by kinship or friendship. My guest is he remained friends with the Meadows's in the Peterstown area throughout his life. I am a DNA match with a descendant of William Meadows brother of Anderson P Meadows sons of Fielding and Tempy Ball Meadows.

Hi
The reason I think Tilden's sister Pearlie is my Pearl Ann Meadows is on the 1900 Putnam county, TN census the age and place of birth matches pretty good. Also in the 1910 & 1920 Jackson county, TN Tilden with children Leslie, Jobe, etc... is listed just a few households down from my Pearl Ann Meadows who married Boone C. Anderson in 1904 in Jackson county, TN. The ages on everyone is really good within a yr or two. Hope that answers some of your questions.

Hello Jerusha,

Can you tell me why you think Pearlie might be a sister to Tilden? Do you have any information about where in Tennessee she was born or any other info about her family? Siblings other than Tilden?

The reason I ask is that I have a Tilden Meadows that had a sister named Pearlie in my database and there were several Andersons that settled near my Meadows family.

Oscar, thanks for the info. I would be interested to know how you and I connect through the meadows. Yes, Wolf was my Great, Great Grandfather. He came from Prussia, now Poland through Hamburg, German in his early 20's. Supposedly he had a wife, left behind. He married twice. His second would have been my line. Anyway. Why he came down to VA (now WV) I don't know. We are not sure on the correct spelling of the surname, it was changed here. He was Jewish and there are several possible names. We have been unable to locate anyone from his side. Some family in WV holds the orginal letters written him in OLD HEBREW, I need to get the translated copies.
Also, I have a dock stating that Ida May Meadow's Mom, Mary was full blooded CROW, nothing know about her. It is probably a guess.

I have had several requests about native american lineage in the Meadows family. I have no information to support or disprove native american lineage. My personal opinion is that it is a possibility but very very very unlikely.
Do you descend from "Wolf Crotshin"? I am curious now he got to Monroe County, VA from Poland or Russia.
I have suggested to others that they DNA test for Native American lineage it is my understanding that Family Tree or/and Ancestry can test to determine present of Native American markers. It would be interesting to know ye or nay.
Robert Clark Meadows is my 3C1R.
Summers County, WV: was Lonnie Franklin Meadows really Lorenzo D. Meadows?

Research done by Bernard Meadows provides evidence that:
1) Lonnie Franklin Meadows (3 May 1877 - 26 Sep 1949) was a son of Hugh F. Meadows and Emily A. Rollyson. The marriage record of L.F. Meadows and Sallie E. Wygal (Summers County, WV; 15 Nov 1898) names Hugh and Emily Meadows as his parents. In addition an 1893 lawsuit in Summers County (F.M. Buckland Plff. vs. Leroy Meadows and Lonny Meadows Defts.) names Leroy and Lonnie as the only living heirs of Emily Meadows, deceased. (Leroy is a known son of Hugh and Emily's and was living in Texas in 1893).

2) Lonnie Franklin Meadows was probably the same person as the Lorenzo D. Meadows, known to be a son of Hugh F. Meadows and Emily A. Rollyson. The 1880 Summers County census lists a Lorenzo D. Meadows as a son in Hugh's household, 3 years of age. That would make Lorenzo's birth about 1877. No other records (census, death, marriage, etc.) have been located for Lorenzo. Lonnie Franklin Meadows was born May 3, 1877 but does not appear under that name in the 1880 census. He has not been located anywhere else in the 1880 census. It is surmised that Lorenzo D. changed his name to Lonnie Franklin sometime prior to the 1893 lawsuit.

3) The death certificate for Lonnie Franklin Meadows (Mercer County, WV) states that his parents were Rufus Meadows and Martha Rollinston. No records for that couple have been found. The informant named on the death certificate was Harry Meadows, who was probably the son of Lonnie F. Meadows by that name.

Any input concerning this would be appreciated.
Arley Meadows, ameadows@zoominternet.net

sylvester a meadows - mason, cabel co west virginia

Trying to find information about Sylvester A Meadows born 1855 in Mason Co, WV. Married at age 33. Is it possible that he was married earlier? My g-g-grandmother Nora M Meadows was born Mar 1879 in either Mason or Cabell Co. Marriage license listed a "S" Meadows as the parent. Have not been able to find a Nora Meadows in Mason or Cabell Co. Found a Norah Steel same age living with a divorced mother. Nancy J Steel was the mother with Mary Steel being her mother. Nancy has three younger brothers. Norah had an older brother and older sister. Sylvester Meadows in the 1880 census had a 9 year old "step sister" Fanny Bell living in the household that I can not find any information about. Any help would be great. Thanks
