How is your research going?

Do you have a photo of Jacob & Alice (Bilderbach) Meager? I'm attempted to upload a copy of a photo that I have (I don’t know anymore were I obtained it) of Jacob and Alice and their living children at the time. The photo indicates that the location is Brooks Run (Bellaire, Ohio) area and that it was taken the summer of 1899. The children in the photograph include: John, William, Katie, Marcus, Margaret, Joseph, and.... a little Jack Russel kind of dog. I’ll have to see if my husband can assist me in up loading it soon.

In the Meager & Willison Ancestory Tree (AMS), I havn't been able to go beyond William Bilderbach (b. 1811 in Pennsylvania; Washington, Highland, Ohio in 1870 ; d. ?).

However, William Bilderbach's wife Mary Wilson Buntain (b. 1821 in Hillsboro, Highland, Ohio, United States; d. 05 May 1881 in Roann, Indiana, USA), I have been able to take the Buntain/Boynton line back 7 generations and the Adair line back 3 generations.

I really want to know more than the name and dates of our ancestors. I want to see their faces and learn their back stories whenever possible. I hope to gradually upload more photos to my specific line. I hope that our other distant cousins will share photos in time as well. Do you have photos and stories?

I am hoping to purchase the World Wide Ancestry.com package in a month or two. I really want to know from where in Prussia Jacob & Alice hale.

Where do you live? I live in Kettering, Ohio, but I visit east Ohio at least 6 times a year.

We may be taking a mini trip to east Ohio in a few weeks to visit my parents & to celebrate my 51st Birthday. So, depending on what state you currently live in and if you are interested, we could select a place to meet. It is nice knowing someone else is or can help with the “slouthing”! :)

Doing some research on our Williams family and George Williams married Elizabeth James Magor on Dec. 25, 1839 in Breage, Cornwall, England. It lists her parents as Sidney and Grace. I know the name has possibly different spellings so. They settled in Wisconsin.

She married REGINALD HASTIE in 1913, in TOXTETH PARK, LIVERPOOL, was widdowed in 1931, moved to DEVONPORT, CORNWALL in 1932 and married FREDERICK BULLOCK in 1941, she died in 1980 in CORNWALL.

The name comes from both England and Ireland. Likely have a similar origin early in 1100's or so.

The Meager (M long e ger) family from Berkhamsted, England is my family of origin. The name spelling changed in 1880 when the family, which had emigrated to Canada, moved to the United States. The spelling then became "Meagher." Pronunciation remained the same in my family.

The "O'Meagher" and other Meagher families originate from Ireland. Their pronunciation is usually "Maher" or sometimes "Mayor" although I have heard many pronunciations.

Thus, I do not think pronunciation tells the family origin, necessarily. Spelling may be more telling, but it is clear that spelling changed as people moved about the globe.

Hi there neighbor! Ottawa is not that far from Chicago, have a brother in Martuckey or whatever they call it. My Great-Great Grandfather was Edwin Meagher married to Mary Wright. I think his father's name was George though. But they were from Berkhamsted.

Magor in the Cornish language means "old Ruins" if is correct that the spelling did vary a little. I am not sure if there was a Richard Magor in our family tree, but certaily the villages of this area of Cornwall were where the Magors lived. My Grandfather - died 1907 was from neighbouring village

My Meagers are from the Berhampsted area of England, although I suspect that they originated in Cornwall. My g-g-grandfather was Edwin Meager, born in Berkhampsted, emigrated to Canada and then to Chicago, Illinois where the family remained.He was a hoopmaker. His wife was Maryann Wright, also from the Berkhamptsted area. His mother was unmarried. She was a strawplaiter. His father was Edward Blacknell. I have more info if you are interested.

My gggrandmother was Sarah Meager and she was born in 1841 in Norwood. Perhaps Sarah and Caroline were sisters?

I know nothing of Sarah because I can't find her on any census record prior to her marrying my gggrandfather John Armitstead.

I have their daughter Lydia Armitstead's birth certificate and that this the only document I have with Sarah Meager's name on it.

Thanks for your reply. It looks as if most of the Bilderback's stayed in the area of Highland Co. I see in the 1880 census a William Bilderback was adopted. I think his age was 14. Jacob and Alice were married in 1887 and had 10 children.

I find with interest your posts of the Meager family of Cornwall. My Meagers came from Luxulyan and my great grandfather Thomas Bunt, emigrated to New Zealand in the late 1860s. If anyone is related to this particular branch of Meagers I would be only too happy to get in contact with them.

I live about an hour away from Highland Co. and I've been up to Dunn's Chapel and located Sarah's gravesite. John and his wife are buried there too but no stone can be located. My great-grandfather William and his wife are buried in Westboro. William's info in 1880 lists him living with another family, so what happened to his family? I was glad to hear from you. Looks like we may be 3rd cousins I'm not sure how much I can help you. I thought Alice was born in Germany and just found out recently that she was born in Ohio. This is what I found out so far. In the 1850 census William & Mary's children listed are Sarah, Samuel, Moses, Martha and John. Of these of I found info on Sarah and John. In the 1870 the children listed are William and Alice. I have found some info on WIlliam, which you probably may have, and if you want any info on Alice I could pass it along since she was my great grandmother.
Let me know what info I might share with you.

I always just pronounced it meager (small) and was told it is a German name.
My confusion comes because I only see Meager's coming from England and so far none from Germany.
My grandfather and his parents and their parents all were born in Germany.
You probably are correct in saying the names may have been muddled up.
Sorry, I guess I need too much help to help you out much.

looking for information about the family of female adoptee... born October 1923 in Montana. She weighed only 3lbs. I was told her birth family was Meagher, she has brother four years older than she. Father was WWI veteran, wounded and later died. Mother traveled from Montana to San Francisco area to be with (grandmother?)...that person willing to help raise 4yr old son, but not up to dealing with a 3 lb. infant. Child adopted by Frank and Grace Whipple and is still living.

My great grandfather was William Meager (born about 1847) who lived with his wife Katherine in St Giles in the Fields, London at the time of the 1891 census. However, the census definitely shows the "K" spelling of his wife's name. One and the same...? Children,Ellen, Henry, Margaret and Robert(my grandfather).

I found a Robert W. Meager b. 1901. He was the son of John Meager b. 1856. Robert had 2 brothers - Mathias b.1893 and Raymond b. 1899. John was a coal miner in West Virginia. This info taken from the 1920 census in Bellaire, Ohio. Hope this helps.

Suggest you subscribe to Ancestry's US census service, if you do not already do so, and trace back your ancestor's parents, grandparents etc until you find which generation immigrated to the US.

Then you need to do further research in their country of origin. There are several people who have researched Meagers in some depth, and you can find some of them on Ancestry's family trees.

Sorry I can't be more help, but haven't come across any of my family who ended up in Ohio.

Hello. yes he died May 3rd 1938, I don't no where he was born, he had children, here's two, Rhoda, Janey, about 8 or nine kids.
Rhoda (Williams) was my nan, Married Samual Wiliams they had seven kids, Marina(my mum) Bessie, Vera, Rosey Persy,Brain, Desman.

My mother was a Meager born in London in 1924. Her father was Henry Joseph Meager born in Croydon in 1877, his mother was Georgina b 1857 father unknown. Her father was George ( a baker in Croydon) mother Emily Dyer.

Hi Elizabeth, I too have Meagers from Biggleswade, unsure if they still lived there in 1920.(decendants of James )
a branch of the family probably did, but my branch lived in Chelsea and then East London, but have you seen the message from Debora Williams 27/02/002, she is looking for Meagers from Norwood, you may have a connection there.
