Hello All

I'm building up my family tree at the moment and am interested in any Meanwell connections.

I am a descendant of Sampson Meanwell(b c.1714) and Anne Waldegrave through their son Sampson Meanwell (b c.1751).

I'm especially interested in any family history for Nazareth Smith (wife of Sampson Chapman Meanwell b.1778) who married into the Meanwells as I have little family history for her but a working theory!

My line eventually descended via Nazareth Meanwell who married a John Firth or Frith in 1854. All of the family seem to have remained around Lincolnshire until the 1970s.

Many thanks
Trish

Hi my name is Meanwell but I cannot trace my history back. My father was given away as a baby within a week from being born. The family he was given to were the Meanwells in Beverley(near Hull)although he has recently passed away he always maintained that he was from Lincolnshire and was brought across the river, it is thought that he was given to a distant family member to be looked after. We have no birth certificate but a baptism cert from 9/11/27 baptised in Beverley Minster. He celibrated his birthay on bonfire nigtht 5th November. The name on his baptism certificate is JEFRY GUY MEANWELL (correct spellings).......HELP if anybody has any infor that can help in tracing his background and my roots I would be much appreciated.
regards
Keith

Yes I would still like information on Walter and his family. I have been given some information on parts of the family. Walter was born in 1868. His mother was born in 1848 (Marion Meanwell; birth name Mary Ann Ogden). His father's name was Thomas Hilton Meanwell, he resided in Coningsby in Lincolnshire before settling down in Louth. I do not have his birth year, but I know that he was younger than Marion. Marion had three children with Thomas: Margaret(born July 1872), Annie (Margaret's twin who died at appx age 2), and Walter. Margaret emigrated to the US, married and had 2 children. Margaret became a widdow in her 30's and Marion was travelling via the Titanic to help her widowed daughter out. Marion Meanwell is my Great-great grandmother; so, I do have information on her family her in the US. If you would like to e-mail me for/with more information you may do so.

Best Wishes,
Patricia
mynormajean@hotmail.com

Hi,
I have some info. on the family of Walter Meanwell. I am distantly related to the Meanwells and was intrigued by the Titanic link.
Walter was born in Bradford, Yorkshire and as yyou say was living with his grandparents at the time of the 1881 census. His parents were Thomas Hilton Meanwell and Marion ( Mary Ann) Ogden. They married in cMarch 1870 in Bradford. Thomas was born in Horncastle, Lincs in cJun 1849 and died before the 1881 census. In the 1861 census he his shown as a draper.Thomas was one of 7 children of John Hilton Meanwell and Sarah Babington who were married in cDec 1842 in Horncastle. John Hilton was born in Tattershall, Lincs in 1814. In 1861 he was a grocer and in 1881 a returning officer.
I have further info on the family if you are interested.
Tony

I have just embarked on a single-name study of the Meanwell Family. Shortly I will have a complete list prepared of the UK Birth Register for Meanwells' from 1837 to date. This will then be cross-matched with marriage and death details and UK census information.

If you need any information regarding Meanwell ancestry, let me know and I'll do anything I can to help. Likewise, any and all information on the family would be much appreicated. All communications will be ackowleged, but this might take several weeks sometimes.

You can contact me via this board, or direct at david.meanwell (at) virgin.net

Dear Pamela,

I read through the "Ernie" thread with interest. After just over a year of researching my family tree, I've decided to "go for it" and to start a single-name study of the Meanwells. My own line is from Sampson and Ann Waldegrave down through Thomas/George/Sampson/Susanna(unmarried)/Thomas/Harry/Kenneth.

I've started to gather together all the UK BMD and Census information on the family and, in a week or so, should have a complete index of all Meanwell births since 1837. Ultimately I'll be setting up a Website and publishing all the index and other info. I gather to hopefully asssit others who are researching the family. So - if ever you think I can help with any information let me know. And, of ocurse, I'd love to hear from you regarding your own researches.

Regards,
David

I've recently started work on a single-name history for the Meanwell's and an gathering registration and census records together for the UK at present. I'm assuming that you are refering to Marion Meanwell as Walter's mother? Do you know when he was born?

If you are still looking, I'll see what I can track down. any info you have on Marion's daughter's family in the US would be gratefully received.

Regards,
David

Hi Sam
What a nice surprise to find your message to me. Of course I remember your mother. I knew Ida very well and last visited her in 1993. My cousin Susan spoke of your family when I visited her briefly in November when I was in Europe.
I have quite a large database of Meanwells and related others - not always well organised. I certainly have info regarding Ann Waldegrave and her husband, including a proposal to her. I can also make a connection between Meanwells and Burmans further back than my parent's marriage.
You can contact me at benson@inspire.net.nz.
Pamela

I am indeed Eileen's son. My Grand Mother Daisy is still alive although living in a home.

My Mum has an encyclopaedic knowledge of Ernie's Brothers, Sisters and Grandchildren.

I saw a picture of Auntie Dora many years ago surrounded by her family. My Nan had it on her mantle-piece.

I have twin boys aged nine - Adam & Liam.

You can contact my Mum on eileen.meanwell@ntlworld.com

I am on andrew.fielding@ntlworld.com

All the best

Andrew Fielding

Ernie Meanwell

Found your message by chance.I believe we are related. Ernie was my uncle. His sister, Dora, was my mother. They were of 13 children. If your mother is Eileen, then we are second cousins. I migrated with my parents to New Zealand in 1952 from Lincoln, where Ernie and Daisy were also living.

I now live in Palmerston North with my husband, Adrian. Our 2 daughters are Amanda and Helen.

Looking forward to your reply in great anticipation :-)

Cheers

Pamela Benson
