I have not run across a Phillip Meaux in my line; however, Richard Turner and Millie Taylor were my great grand parents. Their daughter, Hopey, was my grandmother. I have a sister, Hope, who was named after my grandmother. Hope lived in Gueydan until our mother passed in 2004. Hope now lives in Texas.

Because of frequent subtle changes in names I've been having fits making progress with my wife's Meaux line but I think I've finally made some and was wondering if anyone else knows of this line.

The first ancestor was known to the family as "Felicia." I've found her in various records as Phelisia, Phyliza, Philozee, Elizza, Liza, and finally Pelogie in the 1880 census born in 1878. Looking on Louisiana death records I found her parents listed as Fernest Meaux and Beatrice Haus. I've already seen Beatrice also listed as Batile, Batille, Hatille and a few others. Fernest I've also seen listed as Ferness.

He was born around 1852 in Vermilion Parish and seemed to live around several other Meaux families. I don't have any history for this line other than that Phelisia marries a Clifford Miles and after a time they moved to Lake Charles, LA.

If anyone knows any more about Fernest, or any of the Meaux's I'd love the information.

I am trying to get information on EUPHEMIE BROUSSARD. She was married several times to TREMONT ISTRE and had several children to include AMELIA ISTRE; a MEAUX. had a daughter, OPHELIA; and to PAULIN BROUSSARD, who was the father of PAULINE and AMELIA BROUSSARD. This is who I am primarily interested in, as EUPHEMIE and PAULIN are PAULINE's parents, and my greatgrandparents. EUPHEMIE was born either in Rayne or Abbeville. Not sure of her parents, as I am finding different ones in the listings. she was born in 1854 and died in 1938.

Cynthia, my great granparents are Adory and Regina so I'm assuming my grandpa Joseph "Roy" Faulk is your uncle. I have been trying my best to track down information on my family history and would love to get in touch with you. Though most of Grandpa Roy's kids and grandkids, including myself, live on the west coast, I was born in Lafayette and will be back there for a big Faulk family reunion on April 4th. Who knows, maybe I'll even see you there.

In terms of the Meaux, I believe I am a decendent of Osa Meaux but I'm not 100% sure, one of the things I'm trying to find out.

a Louis Meaux had three childern two girls and one boy I met one, Mary Belle Meaux and lived with her for more than ten years we had a son William Louis Meaux I was married at that time. I have never gotten over Mary Belle and would love to see both Mary Belle and Billy, Ralph Cook.

I know your post was dated two years ago, but I've doing research on the Lynam family of Kentucky, a free family of color. My Agnes Lynam came to Mercer County, Kentucky from Botetourt County, Virginia in 1786 as an indentured servant to James Curry. Well, while I was browsing through Mercer County, I noticed an free colored woman named Agnes married to a Sammy Meaux. [I was thinking this could be MY Agnes Lynam's daughter, etc] After some poking around I discovered the Meaux family of Mercer County was a very large free family of color. The older Meauxs were onced owned by a John Meaux who came to Mercer County from New Kent County, Virginia in 1784 and in his 1828 will he freed his slaves. The older former slaves of John Meaux obviously migrated from New Kent County, Virginia with him.

my grandfather was George Lee Meaux of Crowley, LA
my gandmother traced his family back to the 1600s
Michel Meaux came to this country from Cozes, France
His father, grandfather, and great-grandfather all came from Cozes, near the western coast of France, not Meaux.
They used to spell their last name Mau.
My cousin studied in France and said she there were no Meauxs in the Meaux phonebook. We don't think there is a connection.
It is believed that all Meauxs in LA are descended from Michel from Cozes, Saintonge, France.
I don't have any information on any Joseph Meaux with the spouse you listed, if you have any more to go on I'd be glad to share any info I've got.

Hello All,
I'm looking into a MEAUX family who, per census reports, looks to have been born in KY but migrated to the Springfield, OH & London, Madison County, OH areas. From several newspaper articles it seems there were two brothers, Thomas & June Meaux & possibly a 3rd mentioned named Smith Meaux. Also per census records their may also be another brother named Chesterfield Meaux.
I'm looking to find out what became of them & their families after the 1890's.
Any help that can be given is much appreciated.

I am cynthia claire faulk, daughter of anthony dennis faulk, grand daughter of adory faulk and regina faulk fabre.
adory had a blacksmith shop on 2nd street and years after his death, his wife regina opened up a dress shop on cushing ave. We are of Meaux, Landry, Deshotel, and tons many more. Uncle maurice landry had a hardware store on cushing also. Grandfather on otherside was mayor of kaplan for years.
Named of O H Deshotels Sr. Son named henry. Aslo Romaine, ray and Jeanne and THeall, Yette, and Christine
Vhoorise, aunt keene. Other side of family had grocery store at end of cushing, Oscar Galvey Hebert Sr. son Jimmy who married Lil Houghton of crowley. do you know of my family?

My father was adopted at the age of three and I would like to learn more about his father's side of the family. His great-grandfather's name was Joseph "Joe" Meaux Sr. born around 1901 and he married Ursella Oubre born around 1905. They had four children: Thomas Henry, Macy, Antoine "Murphy", Joseph "Joe" Meaux Jr. I was wondering who was Joseph Meaux Sr.'s parents and so on and where did they come from? Some say that he was a popular man in Abbeville and New Iberia Louisiana. Some say that the Meaux's come from Meaux, France. Is this true?

I would like to get any info on the ancestry of my french great grandfather, as far as I know the family name was Meaux and the following generation changed it about 40 years ago to "Moux" because noone could spell the original name. They were two brothers who left france and settled in the caribbean .one in Puerto rico the other in Santo domingo. they married island women. they settled about the end of 19th century there.
