Sorry if I was miss leading. I didn't know of any daughters from his first marriage til I came across your post. I was begining to think that there was no first marriage...lol

As for the Aunt...Tobe had a habit of leaving his off spring with his wives families and moving on to his next wife. I believe that Mattie's maiden name was TATE and that his first wife was a TATE as well.

Marriage Rec has a Mattie Tate and W P Wright married on 18 Feb 1890 in Arkadelphia, Clark, AR

I'm gonna keep diggin and I'll post anything I find.

Thanks for the info. You said that he had two daughters from his first marrage. Do you know the second daughters name? I think that Tobe had a sister named Mattie A. who married William P Wright (Ella Meeks states on the 1900 census that she was living with her Aunt). It would make sense that Ella may have choose to live with the Aunt during this time when Tobe and the boys were living with his in-laws after Hattie's death (1900 census).

According to my research, Flora's full name was Flora Ellen Welch. She first married William Suggs. A few years after his death, she married Tobe.

Interesting that Hattie is buried in DeRoche Cem. My ggggrandfather William Hardage was one of the founding members of the church associated with the cem.

I look forward to seeing the photo. I'd love to touch base sometime over the phone (however I'm in California so because of the time change and cost it may be awhile). Thanks again

yes I do have a photo of BF Meeks. I'm going to post it on FindAGrave.com. I'm in the middle of moving right now and all my stuff is packed, but I will post it as soon as I get moved. BF Meeks (Tobe) is buried in the First Baptist Cem. in Caddo Valley, Clark, AR. He is buried alone. His second wife is Hattie (Herrin) Meeks and she is buried in DeRoche Cem. Same place that Ella is buried. There are about 5 ppl researching this guy and no one knows who his parents are or anything about his first marriage. It is really awesome to now know, at least, a dau that came from his first marriage.

All the info we really have on Tobe is this...
He was born Bet. 1861 and 1867. depends on which census you have. His tombstone says 1862 (I'll explain that in a bit)
He died Nov 1931
He had 3 wives...1st unk...2nd Hattie Herrin...3rd Flora ?? I'll have to check my records for the last name of the 3rd wife
Children: Hattie had 3 boys: Oler, Edgar, Fred. and 1 child with Flora (again will need to check my records)

His tombstone was placed about 8-10 years ago there is a nice story that goes with that. I'd be happy to tell you it sometime.

I've been doing my family history for over 20 years and this is the one line that has stumped me at every turn. If you have any relatives alive that have any info on the Meeks line I would love to talk with them. Feel free to call me anytime 870-293-8985. I live in Arkadelphia Ar and I'm moving to Texarkana which is only an hr away(my num won't change) Sorry I can't be of more help.
I don't know. That is the problem. I just have in a family bible that her father was Tobe. She first married Martin Almond and had three children. After his death she married my ggrandfather Thomas E Hardage and had four sons. Do you have any photos of Tobe (B F) Meeks?

Hello HappyTimes3
B.F. Meeks is my 3rd Gr Grandfather. I've been researching this line for a long time and have not yet discovered his parents. It's very frustrating. :\ I have copies of both his marrige rec. and copies of 1880,1900, 1910, 1920, 1930 census with him in it. We found where he was buried several years ago and got a tombstone for him. He is buried at the Baptist church in Caddo Valley, Clark, AR.
I do believe that he was married three times, one before Hettie. I have not been able to document this, but I'm searching.
I'm sorry I can't be of more help. If you would like me to email you any/all the info I have of him plz email me at jasonlwarrencrew@gmail.com or call/text me 870-293-8985.
Hello! Thanks for writing back! My apologies for the late reply.

I'm new to this site and haven't made my way around everyone's posts yet. I do remember the Meeks family but I would have to stir up the old memory bank to pull out a name or two lol. I was closer to my Mom's side of the family, but I remember visiting Grandma Wolfe, Aunt Mary and Aunt Loretta often when I was young. Sorry to hear about your dads passing.
I grew up in Brooklyn and lived in Staten Island for some time. I'm in Jersey now for about 26 years.
How exciting was it to work at the super bowl!?

Hi Bob, I'm a direct descendant of Littleton Meeks Sr. & Jr., through Jr.'s son James Morgan Meeks. James's brother[Hugh"Bud"Burdit Meeks]filed one of[to date]2]known Guion Miller Cherokee applications, claiming his Cherokee blood through Littleton's wife's[Frances Lucinda Brown's]father, Robert[Fisher]Brown Sr.[b. 1759, Culpeper Co., VA.].

The other Guion Miller applicant citing Robert[Fisher]Brown as their source of Cherokee blood was Rev. James Jackson Blackburn, who is related to these Browns.

Some of Robert[Fisher]Brown's children also used the Fisher name as their middle name. Has anyone ever connected the/a Fisher or Kingfisher family to anyone in this Brown family or the Blackburn family? Robert[Fisher]Brown Sr. had a brother named Pollard Brown, their mother was a Pollard. Has anyone ever connected a Pollard to this Brown family or as Robert & Pollard's mother?

Thank you

Marshall

alien71121@netzero.com

Hi! My great-grandmother was Gillis daughter (Annie Ruth). My father told me that they relocated from Evergreen, AL to Gulfport, MS, which is where Annie Ruth lived until her passing away in 2000. He also told me that she spoke of her Uncle Finch quite often. I am trying to connect with any family members who can give me more insight on our ancestry. I would love to meet more of my family!

I am out of the line of Nacy Meeks & Francis Holt. I believe Nacy Meeks to be the son of William Meeks Born 1725 and ____ Nowlin. I too am trying to untangle the various Williams in the Meeks line. I have only managed to go back to a William Meeks 1699 from England. Any additional information would be greatly appreciated.

Benjamin F Meeks- Arkansas

I am looking for information on the parents of Benjamin Franklin Meeks who was born around 1861-1863, presumably in Arkansas. He married Hettie Herrin in 1891 in Clark County, Arkansas and Flora Welch Suggs in 1900 in Clark County. He died in 1930 or 31 in Caddo Valley (Arkadelphia) Arkansas.

He had three children with Hettie; Oler, Edgar, and Fred. With Flora he had Nettie, who eventually married Calvin Dodwell.

There was a Benjamin Meeks born about 1851 elsewhere in Arkansas that a lot of people mistakenly place in the line for this Benjamin.

I appreciate any information or assistance.

Re: Joe Meeks
In 1912, Joe and Altha left Roswell, New Mexico moving to Arkansas for Altha’s health. It took them seven (7) months to make the trip. The youngest daughter Elizabeth was born on the way to Arkansas. They traveled by wagons pulled by oxen. They sold all their stock before leaving NM. What they couldn't sell they let loose to roam. One jackass would not leave. It followed them everyday. Finally Newt decided to ride it. It beat walking. He would ride all day and let it go at night. They kept it with them because it foraged for its own food and water and did not require any effort or rations from them.

Leslie Meeks left home at the age of 16 (he left in May and he would have been 16 in June) and was not seen or heard from again until forty (40) years later when his youngest brother Morgan Theodore saw him working in the same plant in California (it was a box factory and he saw such a resemblance between him and Newton Meeks. Morgan had never seen Leslie before in his life because Leslie left home before Morgan was born. He left while the family was still living in Roswell, New Mexico. Anyway, Morgan went up to him and asked him his name. He told him his name was Leslie Wade. He had been injured during World War I and had lost his identity for awhile. At the hospital they had given him the name of Wade. By the time he regained his memory; he had married and had a family so he just continued using the name of Wade. Morgan asked him if he by any chance remembered a Newton Meeks when he was a child. Leslie told him that he had a brother by the name of Newton, but that he hadn’t seen him in forty (40) years. Morgan introduced himself to him and told him that he was his younger brother. Morgan invited him to his home a couple of weeks later and in the meantime he had called his mother who was still living with his brother Newton in Okahoma. She caught the train and went out there and they met again for the first time after forty (40) years. He spent the day with them and was supposed to come again on the weekend, but they never saw him again.

William Robert “Bill “ Meeks married a woman by the name of Nettie Johnson. They had six (6) children but only five (5) of them lived. Their names are: Lucille, A. J. and J.J. (twins – AJ died at birth, Lula Mae, Odel Wayne (called Peewee while he was growing up) and then the youngest son was named Billy Fred.

William Robert “Bill” Meeks was killed about August 11, 1936 when he fell off the very top of an oil derrick over in the St. Louis, Oklahoma area. He was employed by the Magnolia Oil Company. The family remained in Oklahoma for a few years after his death, then they moved to San Jose, California.

Sherry

Re: Joe Meeks

I have Thelma Meeks marrying Willie Pack from around Rudy, Arkansas. Lived in Santa Ana, California. Six children. Earl, Florene, Edna, Lois, Merle, and Kenneth. All still living in California. Am I correct on all this and would you please fill in birth dates, dates of death, and spouse, children if possible. Below I have outlined what I have for you.

Thelma's parents were Newton Joseph Meeks and Althea T. Gamble.
Althea T Gambles parents were Robert Gamble and Arizona Norfleet.

Newton Joseph Meeks' parents were William Robert "Bill" Meeks and Mary C. Bryant. William's father was named William Meeks. I don't have a name for the mother.

There were four brothers and one sister along with their father that are thought to have come from Illinois, Missouri, or Northern Tennessee. They were freighters on their way to Austin, Texas. before they reached Austin, Texas, they decided to split up. Only the father, one son and the daughter went on to Austin. The father's name was William, the son's name was William Robert "Bill", and the daughter's name was Mary. One of the sons that decided to break way was named Charley, but the other two names are not known. It is believed that they went north and west. Maybe to Kansas, Arizonia, or California. They were never seen or heard from again.

Mary Meeks married a man by the name of Henry Miller and he was the postmaster of Austin, Texas for years. No known children. Mr. Miller was an Englishman.

William Robert "Bill" Meeks married a woman by the name of Mary C. Bryant. They had three sons and three daughters. Their names are as follows: Fred Meeks, Morgan Meeks, Newton Joseph "Joe" Meeks, Ellen Meeks, Willie Meeks and Mae Meeks.

Joe Meeks and Althea Gamble married when he was thirty years old and she was only fifteen. She had her first baby when she was only 16 years of age. Together they had a total of sixteen children. Some died at birth, but most of them lived long enough to be named. Here are their names and the order that they were born: Leslie, William Robert "Bill", Thelma, Newton, Alma, Ira, Elmer, Helen, Vera, Elizabeth, Art Jewel "AJ" and twin sister Ada (she died shortly after birth), and Morgan Theodore.

Joe Meeks was a cowboy who came to work on Althea's mothers ranch and that is how they met. They ran away to get married because her mother had remarried and her step-father Sim Newman, was very mean to her. He wanted he to leave as well as her two sisters, Myrtle and Bobbie. When Althea left home to marry Joe Meeks, she never saw her mother or heard from her. The ranch that was owned by her mother was taken over by Althea's step-father and his and Arizonia's children. Althea's son, Art Jewel "AJ" tried to trace everything back sometime during the 1950's, but was unable to do so because his mother had already passed away and no record had been kept about the exact location of the ranch down through the years.

I have more if you are interested.

What I dont have is information from Joseph Meeks parents and beyond.

I listed Althea Gambles parents as Robert & Arizona Norfleet.

I am hoping you have information prior to Joseph Meeks, his parents, etc

Great - thank you for sharing any information. It seems I had hit a brick wall researching the Meeks side of my husbands family. The only information I have is what I posted

i have Reverend Littleton and also Nacy Meeks in my direct line. I'm not in front of my notes (i'm at work) but my mother (still living) has always said that her Grandmom was Cherokee, and is a Meeks. Do you know if any of the Meeks from Georgia were Cherokee ?? I've only been on Ancestry for 2 months, but have really enjoyed researching. I'd love to be able to prove to my Mom that she really is 1/8th Cherokee before she passes. All the Census lists everyone as "W" for white, which is discerning :(

Thanks, Nancy

I was wondering if either of the two of you found any information. My dad is actually Nacy Littleton Meeks son of Lloyd Earl Meeks who a son of Nacey Littleton Meeks. I find interesting you both have information on a Nacy and a Littleton. I don't know hardly any of my family history on that side, I do however know my great grandfather Nacey homesteaded a place in Northern Alabama when they moved from somewhere in Georgia. That homestead is now my dads place and my great grandfather has a plaque placed in the front porch of the house when he built it.

According to Civil War service records the V. stands for Vincent (although it is sometimes spelled Vinson). There are quite a few records as he died in service.
