Does my information match yours?
I have very little information on Henry Mehl, the family lost track of him after he moved to California.
He stayed down there when the majority of the family came back to Oregon.
I do have 2 family pictures with Henry in them, one is right before they came to America (Henry was about 2 years old) & the other is during his sister's funeral in Dallas Oregon(He would have been just shy of his 20th birthday).

Sincerely,
Michael Martin

Hello,
I have only a free membership, so I cannot do much other than post here regarding the Mehl Family Tree. But, I thought someone here might be interested in updating the info regarding the children of Chalibe Blum Mehl which I found on this page:
http://records.ancestry.com/Chalibe%20Blum%20Mehl_records.as...

Mala Mehl Izbicki was my great aunt who lived in Lugano, Switzerland.
The middle name of her brother, David Mehl (deceased) was Wolf and he lived most of his adult life in Mexico City where he taught quantum physics and electrical engineering at the university. He was my maternal grandfather. His only child is my mother: Judith Rinelda Mehl-Klein who currently resides in Mexico with my father. If anyone is interested in updating the Mehl family tree here, I will be happy to look up Great Uncle Max's middle name, his date of death and his son's name.

my email address is felicia(at)brazenserpent(dot)org
I think Katherina is my wife, Christine's great grandmother. Her cousin has researched and found that Katharina had a son Thomas in 1894 who was listed on the 1901 census as a boarder with Charles Bibby and possibly adopted. Thomas married Dorothy Mead in 1917 and their son Charles Bibby is my wife's late father. Its known that Katherina married Ernst Mehl in 1905 and emigrated to USA in 1906. Any info you have about Katharina's place of birth and parents would be welcome.

I'm trying to search for a Katharina Benzinger. She Appears in the UK census of 1901 as a servant born in Germany, giving her birth date as abt 1874. She married Ernst Georg Mehl 29 July 1905 and I believe they had a son John Frederick Mehl late 1905 or early 1906. On there marriage certificate Katharina's father is listed as Johann and Ernst's is Frederick Deceased. I believe they left the UK, they don't appear in the 1911 census. I wonder if anyone could help me find out more about her. Thanks very much

I am researching that same area of the Opel family as My Grandma was an Opel, her Dad was Louis Opel, and I search the 1900 census records that makes it all the more confusing as it shows Christ and Johanna Opel with children of William, Fred, Minnie, and Louise. My Grandma said she had an Uncle Bill and Fred and she also had an Aunt Minnie. This is throwing me for a loop. Do you have any information on that part of the Opel family?
Hi It's me again, The wife of J.Albert Mehl was Anna Kern. Her parents were Andreas(Andrew)Kern and Eva Phillips. Anna was born in the city of Milwaukee. Andreas and Eva had Eight girls and three boys. The first child, Catherine, was born in Baden Germany. She died in Phlox, Langlade Co., Wis. August 1896. Anna Mehl also died later in 1896, I have the date but not with me as I write this. My real name is John Kern, Andreas and Eva Kern are my GGgrandparents. I noticed that when I use a name from the family I am researhing on the internet, I get results faster. Strange? It works for me.
Did you know that Anna Kern was married to a
Jacob Schneider before she was married to John Mehl? She married Jacob in 1869 and married John Mehl in 1871. I'm presently trying to find out what happened to her first marriage. My interest in The Mehl family is that they are the last ones I have very litte info on. What made them move to NY? John was known to be a cook and baker by trade. Thanks for your reply.

Hi Mary, I have to make correction on the Death of Anna Kern Mehl. This date was furnished from a letter from her duaghter, Amelia to an aunt, Theresa Kern Schmit, who lived in Tn of Seymour, Outagamie County, Wis. March 13, 1896. Her sister, Catherine died August 21, 1896. Another sister, Appolonia Kern Kissinger, died December 15, 1885, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. A friend of mine who is a descendant of Theresa Kern Schmit and I are in the process of putting together a book on the Kern Familys. That is the reason we would like the as much information on the NY Mehls as possiable. The marriage record gave the birth place of John Albert Mehl as France.

Hi Betty, Working on the info the you gave me on the location of the Mehl Family in the Tn of Germantown, Wsahington Co, Wis. I checked into some census records. Since your GGmothers name was Catherine, I found a 1860 census record that gives the best info that may pretain to your Catherine. I will list the names, age, place of birth. John Mehl, 39, Germany; Catherine Mehl, 38, Germany; Anna, 18, NY; Margarethe, 15, Wis.; Catherine, 11, Wis.; John, 7, Wis.; Joseph, 2, Wis.; Anna, 4?, Wis.; Margarethe, 5 Mo. Wis. No relationships were indicated. There was Kern Family that lived next to the Mehls. This Kern Family is no relation to me.
My Anna Kern's Family lived in the city of Milwaukee from Nov. 1847 to July 1859, they then moved to the Tn of Franklin, Milwaukee Co. Wis. Her parents and some of her brothers & sisters moved to Tn of Center, Outagamie County, Wis. Nov. 1870, That is where her parents lived out their lives.
There is a couple of other Kern familys living in the Tn of Germantown, so the Kerns you mentioned may be fron these familys.
I hope this sheds some light on your Mehl family. By the way, where are you writing from? I live in Green Bay, Wis.

Hi Betty, I checked the State of Wisconsin birth index for Mehls born in Washington co.
This index goes up to and including 1907.
There where no Mehls listed for Washington Co. But this does not mean they may not be recorded. I don't know if you ever used the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee research center. They would have records for Washington Co. I have found names that were not listed on the state wide index by looking the names up in the local county records. There is another state wide index that I have not looked at yet, This index is more time consuming then the other index. will let you know how this comes out.
I am not sure if my John Mehl is related to yours or not. My John Mehls parents were John Mehl and Margaret Immles. A 1850 Census record for Tn of Germantown show a John Mehl and a Margaret Mehl, They had a son by the name of John. I wonder if any of the Mehls in Germantown were related? There is a number of them. According to a marriage record, My John is listed as being born in France. Your birth date for Catherine may be right, I found that these census record ages are not that reliable. But they do give you something to go on. Thanks again for your reply.

Hi Betty, The local history dept. of the Milwaukee County Public Library should have the census records on microfilm. This dept. is located on the second floor. Just ask someone at the desk to show you. The other place would be at the Golden Meir Library at the UW-Milwaukee Campus This dept is located in the basement to the left as you come down the stairs. As you approach the Library from the front, enter the building on your right and go down the stairs on the left. I have spent many hours researching there. Look for the 1860 Census for Washington County, Wisconsin. Then look for the Town of Germantown. There will be two different page numbers at the top of the pages, so look for page 472. If you can't find the page just start on the first page of Germantown, keep looking for the names you need. While you are at the Golden Meir Library, Check out the Birth, Marriage, and Death Indexes and records for Washington County. I Checked the Statewide Birth Index, found nothing. Washington County Birth record on these indexes start 1859, Marriages start 1846, Deaths start 1873. I would still check out the indexes at the UW Library. If you need anymore help feel free to ask. When you get to Green Bay, I would like to meet you. Also if can find a marriage record for anyone of your Mehl family you will have the maiden of Catherines mother.

John mehl-Betty Sielski

Hi Betty, I went to Appleton, WI, to do some research at the LDS Family Research center. They had some records for Washington County, so I looked to see what they had on your John mehl. land record index showed a John Mehl purchased some land in the Town of Germantown, Section 12, it didn't give a description. But it was dated Sept. 1, 1847. General land office Volume 32. There was two enteries. Did John have brother by the name of George or was this his fathers name.
There were no Mehls listed in the birth records. There were some church records available also. Were the Mehls Catholic? Mine were Lutheran.

Read your message today. I'm looking for Eugene Mehl, married to Catherine Heeg. They lived in New York, he was a hotelmanager. I have an original letter from them from 1874. I have some dates from Catherine and their 2 brother in the states too. Do you have any knowledge about them in your family?? It would be great to receive an answer. Vielen Dank und Gruß von Deutschland, Brigitte
