Obituary Mrs. Mary Meissner - 1925

Taken from the Ogden Standard-Examiner, Ogden, Utah, Sunday, 6 September 1925

MRS. MARY S. MEISSNER DIES

Resident of Ogden Since 1889 Succumbs to Paralysis

Mrs. Mary Meissner, aged 59, wife of Fred Meissner, died Saturday at 7:45 p.m. at the apartments, 2453 1/2 Grant Avenue, after an illness extending over five years. She suffered a paralytic stroke in August, 1919. Her illness was thought to be the direct result of her sorrow for the death of her daughter, Ellen, a pianist and pipe organist, who died on July 28, 1918.

Mrs. Meissner was born on April 8, 1866, in Minoke, Illinois. She went when a little girl to live near Hastings, Nebraska, where her father was one of the pioneers and known as "Father Stimbert." She married Mr. Meissner in 1888 at Ord, Nebraska, and came to Utah in 1889. She was the mother of three children, Ellen Meissner, George M. Meissner, a railway mail clerk and Harmon S. Meissner, civil engineer with the Southern Pacific. With the exception of five years in Logan and a year and a half in Germany, where the children were educated, Mrs. Meissner had lived in Ogden since 1889. The body is at the Kirkendall parlors. She was a member of Queen Esther Chapter No. 4 Order of the Eastern Star.

Hey! My granndfather's name was Lawrence Meissner. He was the son of Peter Meissner Jr. son of Peter Meissner Sr.. They came from Hungary to North Dakota. I have a few Antons on that side of my family but I don't know who is who. It's a very long list of Meissner's that goes back to the 1600's Do you have any more information about dates and/or other names on that family tree?

I don't have much. Anna F born 1881 and Franz born 1883 (siblings) emmigrated from Germany to Davenport, Iowa in 1899. Their parents were Bernard Meichsner and Johanna Gottschlick. That's all I have and I've really been working on this. Franz's family is still in the Iowa area and one of them is on the ancestry site. Stay in touch.

Paula

We can trace our Donauschwaben roots from Johannesfeld in modern day Romania, but have hit a snag in tracing them back into Germany. Would you be able to share your information on your Meichsner family? It would be immensely appreciated. Thank you for your time!

Take care,
Lisa Meissner

Ottilie (Meissner) Birkelbach - Prussia / Texas

I am seeking further information about my ggrandmother, Ottilie (nee Meissner) Birkelbach. She was born May 13, 1861 in Prussia, emigrated to the US in 1872, married Heinrich Birkelbach on September 11, 1879, and lived most of her life in Fayette County, Texas. She had ten children and died in Bexar County in 1918.

I know nothing about her parents or siblings. Frederick & Ernestine Meissner (children Emil and Ida) also emigrated from Germany to Texas in 1872, and I am speculating that she may be related. There is a Theodora Meissner (probably the wife of Emil) who was a witness to her youngest daughter's baptism.

If you have any information about Ottilie's parents, siblings or life, I would greatly appreciate it!

Ron Birkelbach
Pittsburgh, PA
This is a response to inquiry about Samuel Meissner who was married to Pauline Hohertz. Samuel Meissner and Pauline Hohertz Meissner were my great grandparents, the paternal grandparents of my mother, Alwine Sophie Meissner Hohertz. According to Meissner genealogy researched by a Meissner cousin Samuel was born October 3, 1844 in Germany and died December 29, 1931. Pauline Hohertz was born October 12, 1853 and died December 31, 1917. Both are buried in the St Paul's Lutheran church cemetery, Aleman, Texas.

All other information I have is for the descendants of the second born son, my grandfather, Adolph Meissner.

Yes, we are talking about the same family. All the dates and name match except the correct spelling for my grandmother's name is Cardella, not Cardelia. My wife and daughter and I live in Southern California. I have a book someone prepared many years ago that deals with the Kurzhal, Schulze, and Meissner families. It has about 100 pages of information was compiled by Charles Emil Kurzhal and 'finally printed' it says in 1995. Is that name familiar to you? I would love to see the wedding picture you mentioned. You can contact me directly at lmeissner@aol.com.

My Grandfather was Richard Ferdinand Meissner born in Marl Germany Aug. 1900. He was the eldest son of August and Lina Wolfe Meissner. I had found a August Ferdinand Richard Meissner born in Gross Christinenberg, Pommern, Prussia. According to family lore the Meissners came from a large family, who had 15 sons and one daughter who lived on a big farm in East Prussia (now Poland) by the Vistula River. This August Meissner I found is the son of Wilhelm and Wilhemine Meissner. Looking for more information to see if these are our relatives

My ancestors in the Saxon Erzgebirge usually spelled their name as Meichsner before about 1750. I have recently heard from some others who have found this spelling among their ancestors, and I have located a few Meichsners now living in that part of Saxony.
If you are interested, send email to LPMeissner@msn.com

Please email me: LPMeissner@msn.com. I had Meichsner ancestors living near Eibenstock in the 1600s and 1700s, and the name Rosina appears among them. One early ancestor was Georg Meichsner who lived in Eibenstock and was mining a few miles away on the Fastenberg before Johanngeorgenstadt was founded in the 1650s. See: http://meiszen.net/family/tree/manly/adolph/johanngeorgensta...
= I do not know of a definite connection to any later residents of Eibenstock, but there is a historian at Johanngeorgenstadt who I will contact, to see if he can find out anything more. Please email any further information you have. = Loren P Meissner
