Mejia or Mejía, also written as Mexia or Mejias, is a Spanish surname of Jewish origin meaning messiah. It was first found in Galicia - an autonomous community in northwest Spain,[3] after the Spanish obliged the Jewish settlers to change their surname to castillian.[4]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mejia_(surname)

Re: Mejias from Trinidad and Tobago

Hi,

Lisa Mejias-Evered here(Evered by marriage). I was born in Arima, Trinidad and live in the United Kingdom. Daughter of Leonard Greene (Greenes of Trinidad & Barbados and Hernandez of Trinidad and Grenada) and Donesia Greene (nee Dhanoolal-Mejias. Dhanoolals and Bhoodoo of India and Mejias of Venezuela) Sounds messy, I know, that's why I am trying to piece things together! For a certainty, my proven bloodline descends directly through MEJIAS-DHANOOLAL & HERNANDEZ-GREENE. Both my parents were born in Trinidad and are from the Curepe/Maracas St.Joseph areas.

Do you share or know anyone with my maiden surname? Any of the surnames aforementioned? Or anyone from Curepe/Maracas areas with these surnames? Particularly: Mejias? The name Claudio Mejias was also mentioned by my mother so.... can you help?

I made sure my children carried on the Mejias surname jointly with thier dad's surname! And I would love to complete my family tree. Being from the carribean makes this very difficult as records are not readily accessible or remain incomplete due to ancestry not originating there.

Would be grateful for any information. drop me a note if you'd like : lisa1latina@yahoo.co.uk

Many thanks,

Lisa
