I have Meldrum ancestors who lived in Sunderland & Hartlepool , NE England. They were nearly all connected to sea-faring in one way or another ('Mariner', 'Pilot', 'Captain', 'Sail-maker' etc.)
Pretty sure there is at least one Joseph Meldrum in there.
If you can come up with any other info about your Joseph (Wife's name, or children's names & some vague dates) I'll have a look and see if there's any matches.
