David Meldrum

I am trying to research a David Meldrum who emmigrated to the USA from around Leeds Yorkshire in about 1849 sailing from Liverpool to New York. He brought his wife Emma Braithwaite and several children with him although i know some of his children where born in the USA. In all there where 5 children that reached adulthood, James who became a sailor sailing to Shanghi during 1856-57. He joined the Army during the civil war in a regiment that was acting as bodygaurd to Governor Hicks of Maryland during 1861 promoted to seargeant before leaving the army and joining the navy. The other children all girl where Rachel, Kate, Lucy and Mary. They all married Kate and Lucy twice. Confused who married who but amonst them they married a William Leaf, a Mr Woods (who spent the last 10 years of his life in a mental institution) and a Mr Shannon. One child of this union whas called Tommy Shannon who was a schoolboy in 1884. In 1856 David Meldrum bought 13 acres of land in Easton which was halfway between Jersey Furnaces and the Delaware Bridge (i assume this is New York). He built a greenhouse on this land and pursued a sucessful market garden business but lost badly when war broke out. They lived near a place called Buskhill. They moved to Brownsville Pennsylvania for short time and where in Pittsburgh in 1863. David and Emma where in Santa Rosa California in 1884 he had a job which would only last 4 years as long as the Democratic party are in office, they leased a place on McDonald Avenue. I have this information from family letters but know nothing of what subsequently happened to this branch of the family. I would be grateful if anybody has any linked information.

Hello all you Meldrums! I'm a meldrum from my mothers side and I've researched this family a lot. At the Detroit Historical Library they have so much information on the Meldrum family. There is a two volume set of books called "Father Dennison's Books of Prominent Families Along the Detroit River Region" or something to that effect. If You would just see these books it would give you a lot of insight into the Meldrum Family. My five time great grandfather, George, was born in Scotland, circa 1736, he diedin the Detroit area in 1815 and I just know he's buried under Jefferson Avenue. LOL For all of you that don't know Detroit, that is the Downtown area and for all the research that I have done George owned a big portion of the Detroit area. Him and his partner also furnished all the supplies when they built the Fort at the Straights of Macinaw. If you want to know mor just e-mail me and I'll try to help. I also have a letter that George wrote in 1813 during the French and Indian War, it's just a copy but to read what they actually went through, it took me five times before I was able to breath. Good Luck in all your pursuits, and if I can help in any way just e-mail me at Chansen555@aol.com. Cheri

Allen Meldrum (1861-?) Scotland, Chicago

I am interested in any information concerning Allen Meldrum (1861-?) and his families. My primary interest concerns my grandmother Sarah Meldrum Cordes (1878-1968) by his first wife.

Most of my information on Allen comes from the 1900 Census. At that time he and his second family were living at Courtland and Campbell Streets in Ward 15, Chicago IL with his second wife Mary (1859-?) and their children; James (1884-?), William (1885-?) and Anna (1888-1978). They lived "next door" to Sarah and her husband Claus Cordes and my father LeRoy Cordes.

The census records indicate that Allen and Mary emmigrated from Scotland in 1882 and Sarah in 1881 ( other records indicate that Sarah immagrated in 1883). James and his wife Emma were alive in 1924.

Who was Sarah's mother? What was Mary's maiden name? When and where did Allen, Mary, James and William die and where are they buried? Where were Sarah, Allen and Mary born in Scotland?

The Beauvais Line

Hi Jim, Had hoped you'd send me your direct e-mail address as much easier to go back and forth with that. I've just completed doing the Beauvais line back several generations. That, of course, is your Grandmother Ceil's line on her mother, Sophia Beauvais. I am about to type it up and was amazed to find that going back to the generation Of Raphael Beauvais, direct descendant of Sophie, and his wife Domitile Foucher, they had 20 children. The forbearer of our line (Sophie, who married your Adoph Melrum), and Mary, who married Enos Petitpren, Pickle's Grandmother) was the 20th child and Domitile was 48 years old then. And that was, "way back when", and before all the advanced medical techniques available today(starting 1878). Still winter here but getting anxious to see permanent signs of spring. Keep in touch.

John Meldrum of Mecklenburg Co, VA

John Meldrum and Elisha Arnold witnessed when William Allen Sr gave permission for his son Meredith Allen to marry Nancy Cooper. Marriage bond dated 3 Aug 1788 Mecklenburg Co, VA. Does anyone have any additional records on the Meldrums of Mecklenburg?

The will of William Cooper dated 25 June 1802, pr 12 Sept 1808 Mecklenburg Co named dau Lucretia Meldrum and several of her children. Lucretia Meldrum's will named some of the same children and more including Martha L Meldrum who is my ancestor. However the Mecklenburg will of Matthew Jackson named Lucretia Meldrum and one of her later daughters as his heirs. He treated Lucretia like a wife although they apparently never married. Since my Martha Lewis Meldrum was one of Lucretia's later children, I'm not sure if her father was a Mr Meldrum or Matthew Jackson. Lucretia had married Mr Meldrum by 1787 since a daughter Mary Meldrum was born by then. Was John Meldrum the husband of Lucretia? Lucretia had a son named John Meldrum. I need any records that reflect the earlier John Meldrum to try to determine when he died and if he was in fact Lucretia's husband.

I am seeking information on the family of Elizabeth Meldrum who married Thomas McGrail in Knaresbrough Yorkshire, 1894 aged 24.

She gave her address as Chapel court Harrogate
Her father was Joseph Meldrum Sea Captain (desceased).

I suspect she is born in Scotland but havent
proved this yet.

She doesn't appear to be in Yorkshire for the 1881 census, but I have found an Alex Meldrum - Bank clerk single, age 20, boarder in Harrogate in the 1891 census. Perhaps a brother or cousin who she joined ??

Anybody know this family??

My ggrandfather born there in 1847. Need info on either Thomas or Sabrina, believed to be the daughter of Levi Bullock and Betsey Randall. I think I have found the marriage of her sister, Sarah, to Henry James Matthews in Brantford in 1844. Thomas and Sabrina were in Berrien Co., MI in 1860, then he disappears and she re-marries in 1866 to Elisha Hall, Vermilion Co., Illinois. It is a puzzle - please help!
