Try the USA census. They may be able to tell you who lived at that address. Try your library. Sometimes they have in archives on microfiche old phone books.
Try using ellis island records (ellisisland.org)
You search by name and approximate dates.

My grandmother was Giovannina Mele ( June 29, 1887-1981) born in Serra Pedace, Cosenza Italy.
I doubt we are related. Hope the information will be helpful.

Check out ellis island records on the internet. If you know when then search for name. There were only a few ships from Italy to USA. Most passengers connected with their ships at Palermo or Naples.

Mele's of Toritto, Bari, Puglia, Italy

Does anyone have any information on the Mele's from Toritto. I have not been able to find any records from Toritto available online. I am specifically looking for information on my great grandfather Lorenzo Mele born about 1886 and married to Maria Foressa (or similar spelling) born about 1894. They moved to Bronx, NY where they had 8 children Mary, Daniel, Rose, Lucy, Nicholas, William, Clara, and Jean. I believe Lorenzo was a shoemaker and owned a store in NYC.

feel free to contact me by direct email if you like.

I met Mr. Mele while conducting real estate business with his neighbor in Middletown in 2007 by coincidence; he read my business card and called me over as I was getting in my car. We compared notes at that time. We later spoke at his home, where I met his son and daughter and other family members, while I was running for political office. I was in the area and stopped by for a short chat.
Another Mele?

I have been looking for a Joseph Mele myself for a number of years. He was my great Uncle and was MIA in the South Pacific during WWII.

My maternal Great Grandmother (a Caparelli) was born in Valley Forge, PA, moved back to Calabria (Acquaformosa) and married Sam Mele, who eventually moved to the US and My Great Grandmother and Grandmother followed in 1924.

Around then Uncle Joe was born in PA and eventually joined the Army Air Corps. His plane went missing off of New Guinea in August 1944 and no wreckage was ever found. I have always hoped that he made it and lived out his life on a nice tropical island after the war. There are a large number of mele's living in New Guinea. Go figure.

I hope you find a link to the Mele you are looking for.

I do appreciate it.
My great-grandmother did come over by boat and landed at Ellis Island in NY with her family (not sure exactly who was there with her) but they settled in Boston, in Arlington Massachusetts to be exact. My great-grandmother's name was Marie Mele though.

Thanks!!
Cheryl

My name is Cheryl. My mom's name is Rosemarie Mele. She was born in Arlington, MA on 5/7/47, her mother is Marietta Mele. Marietta was born in 1918 in Calabria, Italy and moved to Boston when she was 4 years old. She lived at 52 Fairmont Street in Arlington. She fell in love with a man that lived across the street from her at 51 Fairmont Street. Marietta eventually got pregnant by this man (around her age) that lived across the street. This family moved away before my mom was born and to this day my mom never knew who her family was. Marietta is now stricken with advanced stages of Alhezimers (sp?) and I cant ask her for any details. My mom is now 61 years old and would love for nothing more than to meet her dad. Im not even sure if he is still alive. But I would love nothing more to find out who this man is and if he is alive, I would like to meet him. He needs to know that he has another daughter.

If anyone has any information about a man who lived at 51 Fairmont Street in Arlington, MA around the time from 1942-1952 please email me at cherylannfederico@yahoo.com. My mom is not well and has many medical problems and I would love to make her wish come true to finally met her dad and if he has passed away at least to let her know who he was and his name.

Thank you all for taking the time to read this. I so much appreciate it. Any information you can provide me with is definitely appreciated. Thank you..

Van Mele, 1913

Only recently I found out that one of my ancestors (who lived in Belgium) went to Canada for a couple of years. I don't know much of those people and hope that someone can help me.
His name is Van Mele Petrus Augustinus and he was born in Sint-Niklaas (Belgium) on the 8th of May 1879. He married Verhaeghen Maria Silvia, who was born in Bazel (Belgium) on the 20th of March 1893.
They went to Canada on the 2nd May 1913 and returned to Belgium on the 11th June 1921. Both of these people are dead and they had no children. His and her brothers and sisters are also dead, so there is nobody to ask any questions to.
I know and realise this isn't much to go on, but it's all I have. I don't know to which city or part in Canada they went, what they did as job in Canada ... Can anyone help me finding out where they stayed, what they did in Canada ...
I already looked at www.ellisisland.org and found no matches.
I would be very grateful for any help you people can provide.
Genealogical greetings,
Guido Van Mele

Has anyone ever heard of the Meley family living in Charlestown MA. Not sure of the father's first name but his wife was Margaret b. 1860. Children were Frank b.1879, Agnes b. 1882, Joseph b. 1907 d. 1973 and Alice b. 1916.

If anyone is related to the above or knows of that is related please e-mail me.

Barbara
babs2228@wmconnect.com

Hi,

The Meley family were friends of my grandmother. They were neighbors on Tremont St in Charlestown in 1910-1930 era. My grandfather was a photographer and I have old photos of Agnes, Joseph and Alice.
If you go to the 1880 census in familysearch.org and look for Patrick Meley, you will find him living at Fort Independence with Delia b. 1860 in Ireland and Francis who is 1 year old. Patrick was born in England in 1855.
I would have to assume that this is the same family. They are not related in any way to me but I saved two photos from my Mom's album hoping that I could find a descendant to pass them to.
It seems that there is some kind of a connection with your Meley family since you mentioned a fort. You could most likely apply for a marriage certificate for Frank and Agnes and therefore determine who her parents were. I can give you the info on how to go about doing that. They would have been married between 1900-1910 because Joseph was born in 1908.
Let me know what you think.
It is OK to e-mail me if you would prefer.
babs2228@wmconnect.com

Regards,
Barbara
