I have hit a real brick wall on my paternal side of the family...so decided to do some searching on my maternal Mellin side, and was delighted to see your most recent message is so new!

I would truly truly appreciate getting any more information you have on Alex and before. I do remember having been told that they changed the name--so do you know more about how it went from Mattison to Melin, to Mellin.???

My grandfather was Gilbert Gustave, and he married Jennie Swan in 1917/18. They had three children:

Lois Virginia (married James McCollum), my mother, was born in 1919, and died in Granville Ohio in 1986. I have one brother.
Shirley was born in 1923, and was married to Fred Winship who died relatively young, after they had 5 children. Then she married a sea captain names Gustofsson (sp) who died while they were living in AZ, and she is still alive and back in Duluth.
John Mellin was born about 1929-30, and he married Jean (forgetting her maiden name right now), had 4 boys. John died in 1980 at 50> Jean is still alive in Duluth.
All my cousins live in Duluth except Ann, who lives in Chicago, my brother Jeff who lives in AZ, and me--I live in NH and Amelia Island FL. One cousin died in his late 40s.

I certainly would appreciate hearing back from you.....
Sincere Regards,
Rande McCollum Macchiette

(I was named after some Swedish relative..maybe I can find out)

Swan Otto Mellin - HELP!!!!!

Hello,
I am stuck! My GGGrandfather was named Swan Otto Mellin. However, he changed his name at some point in his life, I'm guessing before 1910. I cannot find any paperwork. I cannot find any info period. It's very frustrating. My dad very briefly saw a piece of paper a long, long time ago that had his last name as Melin. But those papers are now missing, of course. Does anyone have any info or can anyone point me in the right direction? Swan lived in Chicago. He was married to Matilda Carlson (I believe her last name was Carlson) Their son, my GGrandfather was Charles Otto Mellin and their daughter was Ester (Mellin) Benson, whom Matilda lived with after Swan died. I have a 1920 census and that's it. I can't even find a death certificate. It's like he didn't want to be found! I appreciate any help, and thank you!

I have an original 6” x 8” photograph of “Myrtle Melin”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. Photo was taken in Chicago, IL, and she looks to be about age 18. She is holding a certificate in her right hand, has on a white dress with a flower, and there is a ring on her ring finger.

I found Myrtle in the 1900 and 1910 censuses of Cook Co., IL, showing in 1900 her birthdate of Jan 1891, and she is still living with her parents, Charles and Marie C. at 4222 N. Monticello, Chicago, in 1910.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Myrtle Melin.

Researching for a friend. I hope you are still monotoring this site.

Jonas Perrson Melin was the son of Margreta Jonsdatter Melin, married Erick Lundberg after arriving in the USA, probably in Isanti, MN. Jonas' father was probably Per Erik Melen, b. 30 June 1827, Sweden and died 27 Dec. 1868, Sweden.

Per Erik Melin is the subject our our search. He was probably born in or near Bergsjo, Gavleborg, Sweden as were Margreta and Jonas. Jonas and Margreta immigrated to the USA in May of 1883. The town or township name of "Wade", Sweden is also mentioned as where Jonas and his Mother immigrated from. She was listed as a widow. Her destination was Anoka, MN.

Jonas was a dairy farmer in Loon Lake Township, Cass county, Minnesota.

Have you any further information regarding this family? anything will be appreciated.
Regards,
Nancy

Dear Melin Family: I am trying to find Jack & Mary Lou Amundson or Sandy & Greg Smith visitors in 2008 to the original Melin homestead in Montana. I now own 35 acres of the original 160 acres. We are working on updated Montana water rights (the original filing was 1919 by August Melin). What I need from any family member is pictures of anything having to do with August or Hanna's water system. Such as: diversion structure, ditches, irregated crops, water troughs for farm animals, etc. The State of Montana is reviewing water rights now throughout 2009 and I would appreciate any help you can give from the old days. Please call at 513-561-2599 or send email to: herrrogers@yahoo.com
Jack, Mary Lou, Sandy and Greg, I got your notes but misplaced your address.
Thank you,
Jim Rogers

Emil Darius Melin

I don't know much about him, as he was my 3rd great-grandmother's second husband, so this is all I know:

Emil Daruis Melin was born in 1864 in Sweden. When he came to America (I believe it was about 1894), he met my 3rd great-grandmother, Esther Christina Larsson Kellstrom. They had 3 children: Clara Edith Elvera (born 5/22/1896), Hildur Ethel Maria (born 11/30/1900), and Florence Evelyn Elizabeth (born 3/26/1903). Emil died in 1915 in Brockton, Massachusetts after being sick for some time. Based on a census record I found a few minutes ago, Clara might have married a Johnson, but I am not 100% positive of this. Please reply if you have any info.

I descend from Charles Andrew Melin. His family immigrated in 1867 from Sweden, supposedly Karlstadt. At the time of immigration, the family's surname was Carlson. Charley didn't change his name to Melin until after he married in 1894. I believe I've found his family in MN in 1870 and 1880, and if this is the correct family, then Charley had two brothers, John and Ole, and a sister, Mary. I don't know if these children also changed their names to Melin or if it was just Charley who changed. Charley married Ida Olivia Anderson (immigrated in 1888 from Sweden) and had three children, Ellen, Lawrence, and Herman. He supposedly died about 1918, but I haven't found any proof of his death. If anything here connects to your tree, please let me know.

Her name is in the booklet that I have. I will get it to you as soon as I can. The booklet is less than twenty pages. It has some obituaries, some historical information and a listing of the descendants of Alfred and Mary Melin circa 1992.

In fact I am going to LDS to view a microfilm from there tomorrow. It is good to know I maybe should be searching for MAGNUSON
Which of these Melins are you descended from?
I just started researching this myself. I was given a booklet that my father got at a family reunion in 1992. The information in this book states that they all emigrated to the U.S. in the summer of 1866 from Karlscrona, Sweden. Upon arriving in the U.S. they adopted the surname Melin, their original surname was Magnuson. I am planning on scanning the booklet. I can e-mail it to you when I am done if you are interested.

I would be very interested in any information you dig up and/or already have.

Thanks,
Maroy

August 7th. I see you were talking to David Larson who is a second cousin. He has a lot of information on the family. Dale

Melin>Sweden>Wisconsin

Searching for ANY and ALL information on the Melin family from Burnett County, Wisconisin. What little I have to go on is as follows...
Anna (Johanna) Fredricka Melin b. ?1856 Sweden married first time in Trade Lake, Burnett County, Wisconsin August 28, 1887 to Joseph Gotfred Ekberg b. 1858 Sweden. On the record of marriage Anna's parents are listed as Aron Melin and Anna Melin both born Sweden. Joseph must have died within 2 years of marriage as by 1889 Anna is married to Fredric/Frederick/Frank Lindgren. Anna and Fredric had the following children; Emil Paul born August 23, 1889 or 1890 (depends on the record) in Trade Lake, Wisconsin, died July 1972 Mpls, MN. Son William born and died in Trade Lake, Wisconsin. Emil married Alice C Anderson February 1910, place unknown. Only information I can find on Anna and Fredric Lindgren is that they were founding members of the Trade River Evangical Free Church. Cannot find them in census info, plat maps, cemetary lists, vital records, etc... Any information on Anna Melin and Fredric Lindgren would be VERY MUCH appreciated. Email me direct at davis3@hutchtel.net
