I am looking for information on a Charles Melloy who died in Everett in 1957. He would have been my grandfather. He was married to Virginia Wiles, although I think her last name may have been Hogan at the time they got married. They married in 1951, and she was pregnant with my father when Charles died in an accident at a mill in Everett. I believe he was born in Minnesota. My dad was adopted when my grandmother remarried, and I really don't have any information on this family. I know that Charles fathers name was also Charles, and had a few siblings Dolores, Francis or Carroll, Jeanne, and Charlene. Any connection?

Just send me an e-mail, and I'll launch the PDF to you over the internet.

This is a scan of the full-sized tree (huge). You can "drill down" on your computer screen, or you might want to have it printed out a big "C-size" sheet (by a blueprint shop, a "sign place," or maybe even a Kinkos).

My e-mail address is orion@telcomplus.net

Merry Christmas!
My husband is a descendent of Samuel Meloy, born 1814 in washington County, PA, who married May Ann McMillan in PA in 1849. The 1880 census shows that Samuel's father was born in New Jersey and his mother was born in PA.

Do you have anything in your materials about his ancestry. It sounds as if there are several Meloy (also Maloy, Moloy, etc.) lines.
James Meloy, elector - 1816 Electoral College, Pres James Monroe

I have affidavits of the (Pennsylvania) Electoral College vote record with three James Meloy signatures, signed in Harrisburg Dec 4, 1816. James voted (all 25 electors voted) for President James Monroe. These are lovely hand-written affidavits, with original signatures - provided by the National Archives. Alas, I was searching for someone else's signature - but I thought I'd share this info with folks in other branches.

From all I've seen, this MAY be the "D Branch" James of Bucks County b. 11/5/1778, son of Henry Meloy b. 1726, son of Charles Meloy b. 1697 Scotland d. 1744 here.

The only other "suitable timeframe" candidate might be James Meloy b. 1756 in the "A" branch - son of Dennis b. 1726, also a son of the same Charles. But the Arthur S. Meloy tree says "went to Carolina" on the "A" branch - so, this James may be less likely to have voted as an elector in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania in 1816. I cannot know, of course, if "A" branch James returned to Pennsylvania.

If anyone's interested in seeing these 1816 electoral college affidavits, let me know.

I won't toss the archive copies - they'd be a shame to waste.

This is a very exciting record. I am from the "A" line. Our family research has placed Dennis Meloy 1728-1800 returning to PA. He is buried( resting peacefully we hope) in Redstone, Fayette, PA. His son, James, is referred to in Arthur Meloy’s History and Lineage as serving in the 7th Pennsylvania Continental Line. This James went to Warren County Ohio. His full or half brother Patrick is well documented in that counties history. My blood line flows from James' daughter Hannah Meloy Miller.

What is you link to the family?

I would love to see the affadavits if it is not too much trouble for you. I cannot say at this time if it will directly connect or not since the Meloy's used James as one of their go to names.
It pleases me very much to know that the Meloy family were active in the American Revolution and believed in the importance of voting.

Best Regards,
Sherry

I'm in the "B" line - a direct descendent of John Meloy who also served during the Revolutionary War (and I'm a member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution). Have you considered joining? It's a great organization.

My "John" and your "James" were cousins - their fathers were brothers, and their grandfather was Charles. It sounds like you're already acquainted with the Arthur S. Meloy tree and narrative.

I'd be delighted to copy these three electoral college documents, and mail them to you. That would surely be nicer than receiving a six-part scan (each page is 11 x 17). If you send your postal address to me by e-mail, and I'll drop them in the post this weekend.

My e-mail address is orion@telcomplus.net

Cheers,

(Deborah) Ellen Baker
Glacier, WA

ABSOLUTELY! My grandfather was Willard Carl Meloy, son of Robert Irwin Meloy (Pearl Ullom), grandson of Willie Meloy (Elizabeth Bell Irwin), great grandson of Joseph C. Meloy (Sarah Gregg) and gggrandson of Thomas Meloy. this is as far back as we can go and even some of this is under question. My grandfather recently passed away. He told stories about France, Scotland and changing the spelling of Meloy way back when, but he nothing concret. Our branch of the family would love to have some additional research to finally put some questions to rest.

Hi! My Name is Pam Meloy Ryan of Bellbrook, Ohio. I grew up in Fairborn, but my father's family was from Pitsburg, Kansas. I'm just beginning to search my family history (now that no one is left to ask questions). I know James Albert Meloy and his wife Jemima Gifford moved from Juniata County Pa. about 1868, had at least 1 child (Ella) in Illinois, and then settled in Kansas. They had a total of 10 children. My grandfather, Ben Gifford Meloy was the youngest of the 10. Ben's first wife died in the flu epidemic of 1917. Shortly after that he married Laura who had lost her husband and 6 week old baby in the flu epidemic also. Their only son, Bill was born in Joplin, Mo. Bill was my dad

Marriage Place? Mary Eyler-John Meloy 28 Mar 1789

I am searching for a marriage record (showing place) if possible - for Mary Eyler to John Meloy, perhaps in mid-state Pennsylvania or even Philadelphia - date (pretty certain) was 28 Mar 1789

Lots of people are sharing this date - and I do have some substantiation for it - courtesy a D.A.R. (accepted) application - but they've never been able to identify a marriage place.

Any help would be deeply appreciated!

Ellen Baker 360-599-2544
orion@telcomplus.net
It seems as if a lot of us are working with the same Arthur S. Meloy work - but it was excellent! I know that the Juniata County Historical Society in Pennsylvania has the text. I have an excellent copy of the family tree...

You may want to check out the D.A.R. (Daughters of The American Revolution) database! It has a number of Meloys in it (I'm applying for D.A.R. membership).

I Have a 1926 Meloy Family Tree...Others interested?

FYI, I have a hand-drawn Meloy Family Tree dated 1926.

It was prepared by an Arthur S. Meloy, 2965 Main Street, Stratford, Connecticut.

Reading through the immense quantity of messages regarding the Meloys (at the root of the tree it says "Jacob Meloy born 1583 in France, moved to Scotland in 1604" and under that "The First Mi Loi as the name was spelled was born in France in 1520 A.D.") perhaps others might find this worth having.

I cannot, of course, vouch for its accuracy. So far, it's been accurate for my own branch...

I may have it scanned to share with anyone interested. No charge, of course, if I send it by internet. We're all in this together :)

Best regards,

Deborah Ellen Baker (my mother was Lillian Pearl Meloy)

Re: MELOY George W

Hi there,

I've been researching for a DAR application, and I have a Meloy Family Tree that was painstakingly prepared by hand in 1926 by Arthur S. Meloy of Stratford, Conn. I hate to tell you this, but there are an incredible number of John's in our tree.

By the way, to the best of my knowledge (knock on wood) this hand-drawn tree has been absolutely accurate. It's a very, very large sheet - I had a "master" copy made years ago. My mother - who has now passed away - loaned a print to me back in the 1970's. I'm thinking of having scanned electronically to share with ther Meloy-searchers....

I don't know if this is any help, but I did locate one - and only one - George W Meloy 1841 - on the tree. Sorry - there's no detail about wife, children, etc. YOU may be able to take this branch forward toward the present. (By the way, there are very few Georges on the entire tree.)

This George W (1841) was the son of Thomas Meloy 1796-1875, married to Sarah Jane Pence.

BUT Thomas Meloy's father was John Meloy 1756-1839, married to Mary Eyler. (WE would share this common ancestor - who, incidentally, was a Revolutionary "patriot.")

John Meloy 1756-1839, was the son of another John Meloy 1730, Mifflin County, Pennsylvania (also checks out).

John Meloy 1730 was the son of a Charles Meloy 1697-1744. His was Jemes Meloy, born 1668, died in Scotland, his father James Meloy born 1645 in Scotland, his father Henry Meloy 1613 lived and died in Scotland, his father Jacob Meloy Born 1583 in France and moved to Scotland. Beyond that, all I know is that "Meloy" was "Mi Loi" of France.

Your inquiry really fascinates me because my mother was raised in Renovo - the whole family was rooted in the same area as yours. I presume you've found the "family plot" in Port Royal? We buried my mother there in 2004.

I discovered that there's someone working on Ancestry with the ID of "smeloy1883" -- that person's work has really been a goldmine for me, so accurate to this tree that I could merge that work with mine.

I haven't been at this very long, so I'm not quite sure how to forward data to you. But if you would like a copy of this huge Meloy tree, let me know.

Best of luck. Of course, verification is the really hard part. Locating birth records, death records, etc. It's amazing how much I've found through census records. If we share [John Meloy 1756-1839, married to Mary Eyler] there are census records that verify them back to 1790!

My e-mail address is orion@telcomplus.net, by the way. It may be easier to e-mail rather than use this message board. Please put "Meloy-Renovo" somewhere in the subject line so that I can identify you!

Best regards,

Deborah Ellen Baker (my mother was Lillian P Meloy)

It's been ages since anyone has posted in this thread, but I thought I'd try, just to see.

***Quote***
my information starts with the following:five brothers and three cousins:
brothers:
henry born 1726
dennis born 1728
john born 1730
edward born 1732
charles born 1730

cousins:
henry born 1692
robert born 1696
john born 1694

I am descended from the brother john meloy clan. edward, john, and charles came to the states in 1748 as edentured slaves on the ship new haven. john went to new york state eventually settling in pennsylvania. I have more but there is alot of info. does any one have anything else on our family history?
***end quote***

This is the same or similar information to what I have--my mother, nee Meloy, is descended from the patrilineal Meloy line, the "brother Henry" line.

Henry Meloy 1726-1812
father of:
James Meloy b. 1746
father of:
John Q (probably Quincy) b. 1787
father of:
William H. Meloy, Sr. 1836-1923
father of:
William H. Meloy, Jr. 1870-1913
father of:
Robert Ferris Meloy, Sr. 1900-1971
father of:
Robert Ferris Meloy, Jr. 1923-1988
father of my mother

I have quite a bit of the more recent information, and I have some of the earlier information where it intersects with the other lines of original Meloys, but I'm missing some of the info on, particularly, James son of Henry and John Q, his son. Does anyone have this information?

Also, if you're interested in knowing more about this particular line of Meloys, please feel free to connect--I've been posting some of this stuff up and I'd be happy to share what I do have. (Sadly, the Arthur S. Meloy materials from 1930 seem a little light on the Henry Meloy branch of the family.)
Ellen Meloy

My grandmother was Ellen Meloy b. 1882 to Hugh Meloy and Mary Jane McAnnich. I can find records of her marriage to William Mcfall Sept. 1901 in Balleymoney Antrim Ireland but can't find birth records. Hugh and Mary Jane were married Dec 10, 1861 in Balleymoney Antrim as well. I can find records in Antrim also of their son Hugh b. 1868. I'm thinking that perhaps Hugh and Mary Jane may have immigrated to the US and then returned to Northern Ireland. Perhaps daughter Ellen was born in the US. There appears to be many Meloy and Mcfall families in the eastern US. Can anyone help? Does anyone have these people on their family tree?

Our folk appear to have migrated from NJ, to PN, to Ky and back around to Va!?! I hope I have researched this fairly well.
I'm kind of just taking a wild shot here. I'm from Wa. state, and am trying to do a little family research on my fathers side. My grandmothers name was Virginia Wiles, and she was married to a Meloy. I don't have a first name for him, and I don't know much about her family either. But they did have children together, one of which was my dad, Michael. And I believe 2 daughters; one's name was Mary, and I believe the other one was named Virginia, after me grandmother. Unfortunately, this Meloy that I am looking for died in an accident I believe falling off a tower he was painting in Everett, Wa before my dad was born, and my dad was adopted and now has the last name Riddle. I don;t know if this is any relation to the meloy that you are looking for, but maybe there's some connection.

Meloy/Malloy/Skineman/Skinnon

I am answering my own post here to update. The marriage certificate
actually shows the spelling of James as MULLOY and Ellen as
SKINNON. They had seven children: Edward V. , Margaret E., Minnie F.,
Cecelia, Anna C., Clara and Lucy S. The children ended up living with
their Aunts Mary and Margaret Malloy/Meloy in Muskingum County in
1900 in the city of Zanesville. Their Mother Ellen moved back into her
father's home (John Skinnon) in 1880 with the children. She is listed on that Census as a Widow. She must have
passed away between 1880 and 1900 and that is why the children are all living in Zanesville with the Aunts. I still can't find any earlier info on James prior to the marriage in 1869. So anyone with info on my James
Mulloy/Malloy would be appreciated.

William Meloy Pa to Ohio in 1800's

I am seeking parentage of William Meloy, born about 1813 in PA (possibly Cambria Co, Pa), died 10-2-1882 in New Lexington, Pike Twp, PerryCo, Ohio. He had married Sophia Thompson about 1838, likely in Ohio since she was born there per 1880 census. William's parents born Ireland per same census record.
