Well Daisy your not alone! My name is Breana Irene Mena and my father is Costa Rican. But my troubles are far from over I don't know who my grandfather is? It's been said that the last name "Mena" comes from Egypt I've been told this often when I used to live in New Jersey.

Hola Familia Mena,

My Grandfather, Genovevo Mena, settled in Nueva Galicia when he was 34 years old (current state of Jalisco in Mexico) I can't find any records from his ancestry in Mexico or Spain.

He Married Maria Vasquez (my grandmother)they had 6 children: Andrea, Maria, Jesus, Calixto,
Juan and Encarnacion died at 2.

I believe my grandpa came from the Canary Islands in the late 1800 and that explains why I can't find departure records from Spain to (Mexico).

He did have a bit slanted eyes, very narrow and prominent nose and full lips. Not very tall either.

What area of Spain did you come from and when did they emigrate to Cuba?

My great-grandfather married Ines Rigali Tofanelli in Spain before migrating to Cuba before 1927.

My last name is Mena, my grandfather told me we came from Spain (Jews converted to catholic religion to avoid persecution), first arrived in Cuba, then spread out to other countries. We live in the Dominican Republic.

Mena is a region or geographic region in northern Africa (valley in the dessert next to the sea)

Hello- I am trying to find family as well...my grandfather, Jose Luis Mena, was born in Waco, Tx in 1906. Wonder if there is any relation? He has since passed (1997). He had a few siblings, but I only met one of his sisters..her name was Hope.

Hello- I have been trying to find more information about my grandparents who have since passed away. My grandfather, Jose Luis Mena, was born in Waco, TX in 1906 and my grandmother, Librada Mena (Ramirez- maiden) was born in Donna, TX. in 1913 and had 10 children. When they were alive, I never asked about their families (of course I thought they would always be around!) and now I kick myself for that. I loved them very much and I would like to find out as much as possible for myself and my children. **I do remember hearing conversations that they lived at one point in Mississippi, Missouri and Northern California (Delano & Bakersfield). They eventually settled in So Cal (San Fernando Valley).

My mother's side is Mena as well. I don't have much information past my great-grandfather. I know he emigrated from Spain with Italian G-grandmother to Cuba (probably late 1890s or early 1900s) where the rest of my family was born but I have no "site of origin", I guess.

Any possible relation to a Fernando Mena, Sr. who married Ines Rigali Tofanelli?

Hi My maiden name was MENA My father came from Puerto Rico,to NYC 1945
He was born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico 1920. His family came from the Canary Islands in 1800's. By the way we are related, if your Mena family came from
Puerto Rico, because only one family settled in P.R.

Did any of your grandfathers 6 children then move on to Mexico? Or did he have an siblings with the name Caciano Mena? My great grandfather was a miner in Riel de Quatorce, which is a mining town in central Mexico. I can't back track past him. I also met a Mena while visiting Tequila, Mexico. Her eyes were very similiar to mine....small and slightly slanted. I have a 103 year old aunt that is still alive, and she also has these eyes.

Thank you for this information. My maiden name was Mena. My father came from Puerto Rico. His ancestors came from the Canary Islands to Puerto Rico. I figured they must have originally come from somewhere in Spain to the Canary Islands and then to Puerto Rico but I have not be able to document this.

(My mother & father moved to America in 1970). However, my mother said that although much of the Mena family moved to Argentina some also took ships to Cuba and some decided to stay in Spain. However the family that had stayed in Spain suffered a tragic loss during the Spanish influenza of 1918 and most of the younger generation died at that time.
My mothers grandfather, Luis Maria Mena, (my great grandfather) was a gold and diamond miner and he traveled by ship to many countries looking for work throughout most of his life. He mined in South Africa, South America & here in America (specifically in Massachusetts in the 1800's). He liked Argentina most of all and that's why he moved his wife and 6 children there. We also believe that they were actually of Sephardic Jewish ancestry. Hope this helps a bit. -Mariela

Hello, i am looking for a male last name Mena from El Salvador that moved to Honduras to live in Olancho and had 14 children. I do not remember his first name and that is all i know. He was my grandfather so he was born around the begining of the 1900s.

Hello. My name is Erika. I am in Texas. My dad's family is currently living in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. SOme immigrated to the states like California and Texas. So I might have family there. We were born and raised in the States therefore have never met our great grandparents or other family members in Mexico. I am from Spain and my last name is Mena. I found Mena in a list of Shepardic last names. They were Jews forced to convert to Christianity or expelled.

My last name is Mena as well, and I know many people with that last name. I am from Spain, where Mena is a kind of common last name. The origin of such last name is the castle located in the province of Castilla y Leon. So, I'd say your last name and family comes from Spain.

There is a book called "La Formacion del Pueblo Puertorriqueno" by Estela Cifre de Loubriel. I have a copy and I see that it lists Geronimo and Rosalia.
