Louis MERA (1766-1830) from France

Whilst the vast majority of Meras are from Spanish speaking countries, my g-g-g-grandfather, Louis Mèra, came from France to England around 1793/1794.
It may well be that his family in turn had come from Spain but at the moment I am still searching for any details of Louis in France.

Any information on Louis' origins would be much appreciated.
