Hi Marlene,
I have traced my family back to Corsham in the 1830,40's and 50's. Jane Merrett married Thomas Lawrence in 1831 in Corsham and they are listed in the 1841 census with James and Elizabeth Merrett who I think must be Jane's parents. They are all at Gastard near Corsham in the 1841 census.

Hello, I believe my ancestors are James and Elizabeth Merrett who were in Gastard, Corsham in the 1841 census. Their daughter Jane Merrett married Thomas Lawrence and the two families are listed together on the 1841 census. However I am having difficulty finding christenings of the children and finding James and Elizabeth's marriage. Can anyone help?

Hello, my name is Paul Merrett and my grandfather, Charles Merrett was born in Gloucestershire in 1926 and moved to London with my grandmother in his late 20s. Despite the fact that he is now 83 years old, he still maintains a Gloucestershire twang in his accent. He is married to my grandmother Jean Merrett. They got married 57 years ago, 3 years after they met. They had 4 kids, and from oldest to youngest, they are; Diane, Paul, Alan (my father) and Lynn. My family lives in London although my father lives in Montreal Canada and I have been living in Madrid, Spain for the last 3 years.
My grandparents (on the Merrett side) moved to Cheddar, Somerset 7 years ago where they are still living.

Marlene, my family is named Hook. My grandfather was married to Mary Ann Hampton. Her grandmother was Jane Merrett from Potterne, Wiltshire. Jane's sister Caroline Merrett also married a Hampton brother. Their father was Stephen Merrett. The interesting thing about your email is that the Hooks farmed Upper Shaw Farm. My tree is at home, and I am at work. however, I believe that Levi died in Vermont. I found Thadius and his wife living in Wisconsin, and Levi's widow was with them. Can't remember if I assumed Levi died up in Vermont, or if I found something. I will check when i am at home.

It IS possible that your Levi and MY Levi are that in the same. We do not know what his wife's name was, but we do know that he was married in 1794, died in 1850 in Athens, PA. Do you think they could be the same?

Hi

Does anyone have George W Merrett in their tree? George was born in 1845 (where I do not know) and married my 3 x great grandmother Eliza Cotton in 1875 in Bethnal Green, London. They had a daughter Alice Merrett born in 1875 in St Pancras, London.

I cannot find what happened to George or his mother's name as I cannot be sure where he was born. His father was Henry Merrett and had died sometime before 1875. George does not appear on any censuses either. In the 1881 census, Eliza is with her mother, Sarah Cotton and daughter Alice. In 1901, Eliza has remarried to John Seymour.

Can anyone help?

Vashti has been rather difficult to trace, as her birthplace has been listed as Etchilhampton in census returns but I can not find any corresponding baptism record.

I have James Nash/Naish listed as her father, carpenter by trade, married to Christian Stowe in 1800 Potterne. Christian died sometime before 1830 as James re-married Lucy Burgess in 1830. I think James was born in Stert around 1776, son of James and Mary Godden.

You probably have the info now, but I have just read your Sarah Merrett query. A Sarah Merrett was baptised 3/2/1760 All Cannings. Parents Michael and Martha Merrett.

I read of your details on the notice board. I have been trying to find a John Merritt, mason and his son Edward, mason. I know that Edward was married in South Australia in 1867, but have no idea of where he came from or his father. I'm really grasping at straws. Perhaps you might have some information.

My grandfather was a native of All Cannings.we have a
news paper print out,when he died unfortunatly not the date,accordingly to the paper he was a well known Bell
Ringer in years begone at St Pauls Church.
According to the paper cut out he was very well known
locally.
All my dads family came from Chippenham perhaps we could get intouch again and you could help me find Downing St

Richard was married to Caroline Gwinnett in 1846 and had 9 children. Samuel Merrett born 1859 is the link to the family I am researching. I have interesting facts about two of the children which may interest you. Richard (born 1808 in Coaley) is my wife's great great grandfather (a family link there). Richards father was another Richard who married an Elizabeth Grafton in 1807 in Stinchcombe.
Caroline Gwinnett's parents were a William and Esther (nee Bright).
I would be very happy to share information with you and discover the link (however remote) between our families. It would be interesting to see that photograph as well.

Richard Merrett, born 1808 (or 1811 depending on which census record used) was my great grand father. I have been struggling to get back further but his father's name is shown as Richard on the certificate of Richard Jnr's marriage to Caroline Gwinnett. Caroline's father is shown as William Gwinnett and I believe his wife was Esther or Hester. I think Richard's birthplace could have been Cowley rather than Coaley. I have a photograph of Caroline dating I would guess from 1880's. My family tree (Merrett) on Ancestry covers as much as I know of Richard and Caroline's descendants.

I have something I could send you for your records showing that Richard M and Elizabeth G (and you'll see it is Grafton)were married by Banns at Stinch' on Dec 1 1807 and that their son Richard was baptized on Nov. 13th the following year.

But alas I cannot send it to you for you are hidden and I will not send it except direct.

I've looked in my stuff for the baptism of Elizabeth G at Stinch but to no avail.

May not be your family but on Aug 8th 1782 a Sarah wife of Richard Grafton was burried at Stinch' and on the 21 Feb the following year a Richard G was burried there too. I could send the record if I knew where!

I am doing similar research on the Merrett line looking for the parents and family of a Thomas Merrett who moved from Gloucestershire to Monmounthshire (Newport District, Christchurch Parish). He was married to Elizabeth and they had a large family including a Celia through which our family is decended. Celia married William Waters and had at least 13 children. I would love to exchange information with you on the Merrett line.

I am researching the Merrett family back in Gloucestershire. I have a Richard Merrett of Coaley, Gloucestershire(born 1808) who married Caroline Gwinnett in 1846. Their children were born in Westbury on Severn. Richard's father was another Richard who married a Elizabeth Grafton (Grafson?) in 1807 in Stinchcombe, Gloucestershire.

Does anyone have further information to enable me to link back for at least one more generation?

My great-grandmother was Ada Mary Druce, born in Jersey in 1864. Ada's mother was Mary Jane Marett (or similar, possibly Merrett), born on 9th April 1837 but not in Jersey,and it has never been possible to find out where. Mary Jane's parents were John, a quarryman, and Eliza, the 1841 Jersey census says they were all born in "England". Any info appreciated.

I was perusing the archives of the Rootsweb lists today for my 'brick walls' and found the following posting in a thread which has now been collapsed. Therefore, I was unable to reply to it.

"My maiden name is Merrett and as far as I know my Grandfather Albert Merrett may have come from Wiltshire he had brothers is London and in Wales Elizabeth and Beatrice were both family names. My grandfather lived in Barnstaple in Devon and had six children he married a Mary Jane Avery around the late 1800's."

I believe you are part of my family tree, as my grandmother Mabel Rodgman (nee Merrett) was born in Wales and her father James Merrett came from Corsham, Wiltshire.

I can send you my GEDCOM if you are interested.

I am searching for information on Frederick George Merrett and Agnes Violet Restall They married in approx 1916. Agnes was born approx 1885 in Gloucestershire - perhaps Stonehouse, died in 1976 at age 89. One of her childhood address was Townsend, Randwick, Stroud. Three of her sisters were called Emily, Jennifer and Alice and a brother Sydney, but could have been others.She could be buried at Haresfield Church, Haresfield Gloucestershire.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have merrett's from southwick and north bradley.... it was a small community of baptists - so this is why it's hard to find any definate info on their births deaths etc
there are two elizabeth merrett's born 24th dec1826 and 8th nov 1827 the first is to - john & mary... the second is to - isaac & mary

All the inforamtion that I have is Edward (Edwin) Sayer married Lucy Elizabeth Merrett . In Dec quarter 1889 She was born 1862 Gloucester. Parents unknown
Edward is the son of Thomas and Sarah Sayer of Gloucester
