I have a Caroline Merricks, father William and Mary Harris. Her twin sister was my gggrandmother. This Caroline married a George Hyland. All records indicate that none of the family were catholics

I am also descended from Dodson and Mary Polly through their son William (born 1848), who is Raleigh's brother. I would love to talk with you more about the Giles County book that you found since this ancestor has been particularly difficult to research.

Hi Matt,

I am related to the Merricks, in Pittsylvania County, on my father's side of the family. His mother was Evelyn Merricks and she married Paul Anderson. Her parents were Claude and Sallie Merricks. Merricks is also a Welsh surname I believe?

I also have a cousin name Alfred Merricks. Greetings all,

I am looking for information regarding my g-g-g grandmother. I believe she married John Young in Sussex England and they had a child named Edwin.

The marriage may have been around April 1819.

The problem is - I have death certificate of her son (Edwin) that indicates her surname was Merrick (without the 's'). But that could easily be a mistake.

Just begun searching Merrix in locating a greatgrandmother
Margaret Melvina Jordan married to James M. Adams; he was killed in the civil war; she married an Edwin Dennis, left him a year or so later, I have just located her in 1870 census from Giles Co (Hobbs Ferry) listed as widow Adams with her 3 children. in 1873 she married a William D. Merrix
17 years her junior, they lived in Wise Co area, died in Clintwood, I located their tombstones. His father was Dodson Merrick with 10 kids lived near E. Dennis Has to be good story here! Would like to hear from you. Ann Dennis Logan

immediate family from Giles Co., Va. I am
the Great great granddaughter of Dodson (b abt 1807)
and Polly (b abt 1817) Merricks from Pittsylvania Co.,
Va. Censes records indicate that Dodson was a stone mason.
My great grandfather was Rawley E. Merricks sometimes spelled Merix.
Looks like Rawley had several brothers and sisters (James Pink, Tabitha,
J. Randolph, Paulina S. and Sallie O.

Sorry to say that there were no matches. I checked census, birth, and death records for Giles County.
The next time I talk with my Dad, I will mention to see if he can recall any cousins by this name.
