Merrington - Wynn/Fish family tree

wsuziey2k - I have seen your ref. to Noah Merrington. Is he perhaps the brother of John b. c 1851 in Bedfordshire (North hill)? John had a brother Noah b.c.1845, brother Henry 1848 and sister Rachel 1841. Their father was Samuel, mother Sarah. John became the 2nd husband of my gt. g'mother and they married in Spennymoor, Co. Durham in 1881; they moved to Manchester and he died in 1910. Your info' does not give Noah's father's name - if you now know this is Samuel do get in touch.

Hello
It's not to late, if you have a male Merrington relative, who will donate his DNA. You can get it tested at several sites,(we used Family Tree DNA) and get the Y chromosone identified.
Then you will be able to see if you match other Merrington's and/or possibly other surnames.
Best regards,
Gaila

Merrington family - Sunderland/Easington Lane

I am trying to research my paternal line of the family. My grandparents were James and Eveline (nee Greener) Merrington. I am aware that James - born in 1898 - had quite a lot of siblings but only know of some of them ie: David, Francis, James, John, Joseph and William.
A cousin of my father's (both David Merrington's) was also a well known coal carver in the north east. Also there is a football connection...
I would be interested to know if this makes any connections with anyone.

William Merrington, d. Billericay, Essex, ENG 1866

From The Cork Examiner, 1 January 1866 -

DEATH FROM EXCESSIVE FRIGHT.--On Christmas Day Mr. William
Merrington, a highly respectable farmer, living retired at Billericay,
Essex, but who has a son who occupies the farm he had at Buttsbury,
about three miles distant, met his death under the following
circumstances. On that day there was a family gathering at the farm,
and Mr. Merrington, who is a widower and 69 years of age, drove his
daughter, Mrs. Duncan, wife of the governor of Billericay
Union-house, and her two children, over in a four-wheeled chaise.
After dinner, about half-past 4 p.m., he was returning home, and, when
near Thorowgood's-wood, the horse took fright and furiously galloped
away. It went about half a mile before it could be stopped. Mr.
Merrington, who was a powerful man, twisted the reins round his wrist
to give him more purchase over the horse. It ran on to a green and up
to a gate, and Mrs. Duncan jumped out and ran to the horse's head,
having one of the children in her arms. On looking round to speak to
her father he appeared to tremble very much, fell back in the chaise,
and never spoke more. She shrieked for assistance, but it was a
considerable time before any one came. A man came up from hearing
the cries, took the horse out, and galloped off for a doctor, who, on
arriving, found the vital spark had fled. An inquest was held at the Bull
Inn, Billericay, before Mr. Lewis, deputy coroner, when Mr. Rayne,
surgeon, stated that death arose from excessive palpitation of the heart,
brought on by extreme fright. Verdict--"Died by accident, arising from
fright." It is supposed the chaise pressed on the horse and started it off.

Dennis Ahern [no relation]
http://www.IrelandOldNews.com
Anyone interested in a Merrington & Variant Surnames DNA study please contact me. It would be interesting to see if Merrington's around the world share the same Y DNA Signature.

My husband's Australian Merrington DNA Y Signature has turned out to be a fairly rare signature - R1a - coming as it does from the Essex region of Britain, indicates a Viking ancestor who settled in England.

Are any other Merrington's looking a DNA studies in their genealogy?
Best regards,

Gaila
Hi Elizabeth, I know how you feel because he is my brother and he promised me the family history as well and I am still waiting. I have also being searching the net to try and trace the Merrington history but have not had much sucess. I went to a little village called Kirk Merrington which I believe the Merrington family came from, but have lost the website as I had trouble with my comp. I will try. My dad gave me some reading matter from their year ago and like a fool I sent it to someone that was researhing the family and did not photocopy it. Can you not contact me directly on peta@venturenet.co.za and maybe we can try and do something. Cheers Marlene

Hello, I am looking for links to Merrington's of Tunstall. I have George Merrington b.1837 Tunstall,n.Yks. married to Mary b.c1841 Dalton. They had at least 5 children-Mary Ann b.1866,Catherine b.1867,Jane b.c1871,George b.c1873 and Francis b.c1878. Do these tie with any of your names?

Hi, I was born a Merrington. My dad was Tom, mum Dolly. Granfather was Joseph Merrington and grandmother Mary Merrington. Our family comes from Widnes in Cheshire although Widnes was in Lancashire when I was born! I have a sisters called Ann and Pauline, my sister Jacqueline unfortunately died July 1998. I have 2 brothers, Joe Merrington who currently lives in Portugal and Fred who still lives in Cheshire. I was always told that there is only one family of Merringtons but by the looks of this site there are quite a few of us. Anyone ever heard of any other merringtons in the north west area?
