DNA - Mervin, Mervyn, Marvin, Marvyn Family Genealogy

For those that research the origins of your ancestry, this is long overdue. It is a comprehensive overall Y-DNA Project. Primiarly for the following surnames and similar versions not mentioned:

Marvin, Marvine, Marvyn, Merfin, Merfinn, Mervin, Mervine, Mervis, Mervyn

We recently formed (10 Mar 2012) this DNA Project on www.FamilyTreeDNA.com ..... and would like to send you our personal invite, for any participation. Since this is a new project, participation is minimual, but expected to increase.

-------------------------------------------------------------

http://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?Group=Marvin/Me...

http://www.familytreedna.com/public/MarvinMervin/

-------------------------------------------------------------

Before choosing Ancestry.com over FamilyTreeDNA.com, ask yourself: ..... How would it benifit you to choose:
(a.) a smaller DNA outfit,
(b.) a company that does not "specialize" in genetic studies,
(c.) a company that proffits from document distribution & access,
or (d.) a company that wrote the book on genetic studies, has largest professional DNA community and resources..?? with the best Bang for your Buck.

Summary: by Mike G., "Review your goals, it's your choice!!!" "I do not receive anything for my efforts, this is strictly info to help you decide."

1.) 90% of genealogists choose Family Tree DNA – with the Largest DNA database.

2.) As of August 8, 2011, FTDNA has a total of 342,395 records! Whether your goal is to verify your genealogy or to discover your deep ancestral origins, the size of the testing company's database is of fundamental importance. To get the best and most accurate answer, you want to compare your results with as many others as possible, which means choosing the company with the largest and most robust database. Family Tree DNA is in the lead, their databases are several times larger than "ALL THE OTHERS COMBINED.."!

3.) Paternal Y-DNA test categories: Y-12, Y-25, Y-37, Y-67, Y-111.

4.) Maternal categories: mtPlus, mtFull, mtMega.

5.) Family Finder DNA Testing, Autosomal Results.

6.) Monoamine Oxidase A (Warrior Gene) Testing.

7.) Super DNA and Comprehensive Genome Testing.

8.) Personalized Reports, Certificate & Document Downloads.

9.) FREE DNA Projects to join, based on (a) Surnames, (b) Regions, (c) Haplogroups, (d) Y-DNA or (e) MT-DNA

10.) Deep Clade testing, featured Haplogroups (E, G, H, I, J ,N, O, Q, & R).

11.) Upgrades/extensions for Y-DNA SNPs at 20% off the standard price.

12.) On going Genetic Research. Public participation samples in National Geographic and IBM‘s Genographic Projects.

13.) Email notification of possible matches, User Preferences Settings.

14.) Third Party Affilliation Transfer Program, (see FAQ's).

15.) And much more capibilities that other companies do not offer (News Letters, Tutorials, Books, Videos, FAQ's, FTDNA Community).

respectfully,
Michael A.

I found a John Mervyn who married Hester [--] and had at least 2 children: Mary(b. 1831) and Sidney (b.1836). John is listed as a shoemaker on the baptismal record for both children. William Mervyn, b. 1802, is also listed as a shoemaker on the 1821 census record for Cavan County, Ireland. Can anyone verify if these two are siblings?

It got me to thinking about family, and thus my start here. Any and all information that any of you can share would be appreciated.

Hello,

I'm looking for any information on any of the individuals listed below. Here it is spelled MERVIN. On Rebecca LEE's gravestone it has MERVEN. Since these spellings don't seem to come up except for MERVYN I'm guessing they are inter-changeable.

1881 Census (Peterborough, Peterborough, Ontario, Canada)
Sidney MERVIN, widow, 45yrs, female, born Ireland, Irish origin
Thomas LEE, married, 22yrs, born Ontario, English origin
Rebecca LEE, married, 22yrs, born Ontario, Irish origin
Sidney LEE, _____, born February, born Ontario, English origin
Finlay WILSON, _____, 50yrs, born Ireland, Irish origin
John S. MERVIN, _____, 21yrs, born Ontario, Irish origin
Thomas MERVIN, _____, 25yrs, born Ontario, Irish origin
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
From this I gather that Sidney MERVIN is the mother of Rebecca LEE, John S. MERVIN and Thomas MERVIN. Sidney's brother could be Finlay WILSON making her maiden name "possibly" WILSON but that's just a guess. So I could be looking for a marriage of an Unknown MERVIN to a Sidney WILSON.
Any help would be appreciated,
Thank you kindly in advance,
*Dana
B.C., Canada
Also researching LEE from Peterborough, Ontario as well. Thomas LEE above is the furthest I have and his gravestone as well as his wife Rebecca LEE (nee MERVEN) states that they were both born Peterboro(ugh), Ontario.
I'm hoping someone can help fit a part of the MERVYN family tree.
Where does John Slater MERVYN, and his parents, fit? PIFER who was born about 1906 in Ahoona, Pennsylvania, USA.
I'm hoping someone can offer a clue pointing the right direction. I have a large MERVYN database (my Great Grandmother was a MERVYN), and I believe this MERVYN fits my family somewhere.
Thanks for all help.
Hello Simon, we may be closly related. I was born in whitehorse and my father was Gordon Mervyn (one of 11 children). His parents were James Hastings Mervyn and Julia s. Dichelle. All of the 11 children were born at Lansing creek. I recently found an uncle (David) and he is the last of the 11 living.
I'm interested in finding any cousins. My father passed away when I was quite young and I have never known much about his side of the family.
Lets compare more detailed notes.
I'm directly related to the Ferdinand Mervyn (b 1840) that you say is married to Mary Jane "March" ... I believe the name should be Mary Jane "Marsh"
I have data on most of Ferdinand's descendants, and am always looking to fill in a few gaps in the data.
I would like to get access to some of your data on brothers, sisters etc.
Perhaps best if you contact me directly at cliff.carter@telusplanet.net
Joan
Do you hav any data on William (born in Ireland about 1835 ) Mervyn's siblings. William ended up in Bentinck Twp, Grey County, Ontario Canada
My Ferdinand Mervyn family was also in Bentinck Twp at the same time. Ferdinand was my GG grandfather.
The question is are your William and my Ferdinad related, perhaps brothers or cousins?
Lets compare notes. My e-mail is cliff.carter@telusplanet.net
Ferdinand MERVYN was born 1840 in Ireland. Ferdinand's descendants located in many parts of central and western Canada, and maybe elsewhere.
I am seeking additional information on Ferdinand MERVYN's family line ... he was my GG Grandfather. Any information appreciated.
Cindy, As near as I can figure, my James would not be related. I have an old book that was published in the 1880's that has a lot of Mervyn genealogy in it, but I have yet to make a connection to any of the Mervyn's who came to Canada. That is where my line emigrated to and then to the u.s. If there is something in the book that might be of value to you, I can send a copy of the genealogy sheets.
I am a descendant of William Mervyn who was born in Ireland and came to Canada. He was married to Mary Smith, who was also from Ireland. Their children were William, m. Jane Walker; James, m. Mary Davis; Alexander m. Margerate Milligan; Ann, m. Herman Carr; Ferdinand m. Jane Mair; John m. Matilda Noble; and George m. Lucinda Noble. My line descends from William and Jane and then to their son William who was m. to Annie Carson and then my grandfather, William C, who was m. to Beatrice Drake. William and Jane had 12 children all who were born in Ontario,Canada as far as I know, so I'm sure there are some there who are related. I have the names of the other children if you would like them. Jo
