Jonas Arthur Metcalf and Luella L Wisner

I was wondering if anyone out there can help me.

Jonas and Luella are my G-G-Grandparents on my mother's side.

They were both born in Ellington, Tuscola MI (Jonas in 1873 and Luella in 1874).
They got married in 1871 in Crawford MI.

They had 2 children: Eleanor Lillian Metcalf (My G-Grandmother) and Everett E Metcalf.

They lived in Holly Michigan on Sherman St in 1910, Jonas was a Section Man on the railroad and she kept house.

Here is where my information fails me:

Jonas got remarried in 1913 to a Hattie (Smith?) in Webbervile MI. They lived there until he died in 1936.

Luella appears to have kept the Metcalf name and in 1920 the census shows she was living in Holly on S Broad St with Everett.

After that she falls off the map.

Everett got married in 1921 and appears to have moved to Fenton MI (at least that is where he was in the 1930 census).

I have looked online in every place I can think of to find information on Luella, particularly:

When she and Jonas got divorced.
When/where she died and possibly where she was buried.

I looked in Oakland County's records but there is no record of her. The County Clerk suggested I write to Lansing to see if they have any information but since I don't have the exact date for either event (divorce/death), it will quickly become extremely expensive (Lansing charges $26 for the first year searched and $12 for each additional year, no money back if they can't find anything).

ANY information would be very much appreciated!

Thank you!

Tobie; I have just begun to research my deceased mother's family, surname being Metcalf. When you say central New York, do you mean that is the name of a town, as I am looking for any Metcalf in the Syracuse area, as that is where my relatives were from. If you read this message, please contact me via e-mail as I may not be able to find this board again. Thanks! Charlene

This new DNA information is very interesting as it matches the DNA of John Metcalfe who married Diana Gwatkins in Prince William County, VA.

To prove that Anthony/Warner's line is indeed from John Metcalfe who married Mary Norris in Maryland, further DNA tests of those descendants would be necessary.

To Wayland Beard: I sent a DNA sample for Luther to Family Tree DNA and it came back as a perfect match to a descendent of Warner Metcalf, brother to William Metcalf who were 2 of the sons who served under their father Lt. Anthony Metcalf in the Rev. War. So this proves that our William Metcalf was father of our Anthony Martin Metcalf. You probably have the rest of the line. If you need any more, let me know.

Does your book cover these families? Can you take me back further? I would appreciate your help. -Sharron Filer

Looking for researched information on Jane Metcalf born March 24, 1631/32, daughter of Michael Metcalf and Sarah Elwyn. Has anyone done any research on her? Who did she marry? I have seen trees who say she married Philip Walker of Rehoboth, MA in 1654. Can this be confirmed? Her father's will indicates that he left 20 shillings to his daughter Jane Walker. Was she married more than once?

Jane died about Oct 1701.

Gary Rugg

My mom descends from the Metcalfs of Camden, Maine. We have some pics of Metcalf relatives in Camden and no idea who they are. She descends from Wm. Metcalf who served in the Civil War. Wm. and his wife had a number of children, I think around ten, and Mom's great-grandmother (maternally) was William's daughter, Antoinette.

Hi, my name is Wayne Boyd and I found your message on Rootsweb re: Metcalf.
My GGrandmother was Isabell Metcalf born 1866 in Gateshead, Durham England.
. Her parents were Stephen and Sara Metcalf that came from England with Isabell to the United States. They lived in Indiana and had a son named Charles. The Metcalfs later moved to Monteagle/Sewanee Tn. area which is about 35 miles west of Chattanooga Tn. They had two other sons (Albert and William)and another daughter (Lucritia Metcalf Freeman).

Isabell Metcalf married Harmon Grant Lappin and had a daughter (Caroline Francis "Carrie" Lappin Boyd), my grandmother. Isabell also had a son (Albert Anthony"Nip" Lappin).

Isabell and Harmon Grant Lappin was later divorced (but have not been able to find any records) and Isabell went to Knoxville Tn. area to Eastern State Hospital where I found census records of her there at hospital and a death record of her at the hospital and buried there in July 1934.

Are you connected to this line of Metcalfs? Any info that you might have regarding this line of Metcalfs I would appreciate.

My grandfather, Prestley "Clarke" Thomas, wrote "The Slicker War" book with my great-uncle, Jack Glendenning. I have a copy and read the story of James Morton. It is absolutely fascinating! He was kidnapped by the Turks and taken to Alabama to face a murder charge of which he was acquitted. The Turks, in turn, were charged with kidnapping. If you do get this message and would like more details including family members' names, sources, etc. please don't hesitate to message me. Thanks! Jessica

I am looking for info on Stephen and Sarah Metcalf from Grundy Co. Tn. area. They came from England with daughter Isabelle and son William Metcalf. Stephen was born about 1834 in England. After coming to Tennessee from Indiana, they had another son named Charles and also two other daughters-Lucrecia and Mary. They show in U.S Census in 1900 but Stephen does not show in 1910 census. Isabelle (Belle) was my great grandmother that later married Grant Lappin. They were later divorced and Isabelle went to the Knoxville Tn. area where she died in 1934. I would appreciate any info on the Metcalf families of Grundy Co. Tn. Thanks!

Hello. I am looking for ancestors of Joseph Patrick Metcalf. He was born May 17, 1878 in Ireland. He died 1962 in Anaconda, Montana. I have his father as Micheal Metcalf (1840-1900) and his mother as Maria Burke (1854-1940). I'm not sure after that. There are no records that I can find definitely that point in the right direction. I am stuck on this particular line in my family. Unfortunately, this is the only line that I am interested in. It is my maiden name and am interested in finding my fathers line. But am stuck at Micheal. If there is any thing out there, please let me know.

Thank you,
Heather Metcalf

Alleybama,

I am sorry but John and Jane only had 4 children. Both are my great grandparents. Their children were: 2 boys, William Robert and Brutus, 2 girls Susan and Hannah. Yes John died in 1948 at the age of 88. Please e-mail me so your family line could be straightened out.

Also, John was born in 1860. He is buried in Nolansburg, KY. My grandmother is his daughter, Susan. John's parents were James and Amy (she went by many different names).

My address is godslilangel_23@yahoo.com

Ancestry of John Metcalf 1680 - 1728

I would like help in finding ancestry of John Metcalf married to Lydia Crutchley of Maryland. His descendants moved to KY, NC, and TN. I have all I need on his descendancy, I would just like to know his ancestry, if I can find it. Some leads suggest maybe a George, William, James, or Jonathon Metcalf may have been his father (probably from England). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
