Hello,
I am not sure if you can help me. I am looking for information on Ernest Michel born in 1873. I have been told his family is originally from Germany, although he may have been born in Russia. I don't know his parents' names, but I have names of siblings: Adam, George, Lorance, John, Trout, & Gertrude. Ernest married Annamargurite Euler. Their children were born in Buenos Aires and several different states in the US.

I would appreciate any help me may be able to offer me.
Thanks, Danielle
dmw72180@yahoo.com

Hi,
I wondered if you could help me. I saw this response to someone else post about Michels in Russia. None of the names on that post looked familiar to me. So I thought I would ask you if any of these names look familiar to your research.

Ernest Michel born 1873 in Russia and married Annamarqurite Euler in 1897. Ernest is said to have 5 brothers and 1 sister: Adam, George, Lorance, John, Trout and Gertrude. Would you have any information on who their parents are. I have information on Ernest and Annamargurite's children through their son Karl, although my lineage is their daughter Katherine.

If you can help me in anyway I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Danielle
dmw72180@yahoo.com

My father Pascual Diaz Michel was reportedly from Durango. He met my mother Paula Espinosa who was from Topia, Durango. After they married they went to Sinaloa, then entered the US in the 1920s and resided in Yuma Az. Later, they moved to Los Angeles where my father worked at Simons brickyard. Later they moved to Santa Maria, Ca. where they purchased a home. My father never spoke of his background and never looked back. Some say he was from Sangtiago Papasquiro and/or Tepehuanes.

I think there are many branches of the Michel name in Southern Jalisco and Colima. There is a professional soccer goalie named Luis Ernesto Michel from El Grullo, Jal. I remember reading a history book about the Cristero rebellion, and mention of a Col. Manuel Michel who fought in Southern Jaslisco/Colima region. While Michel isn't as common a surname as Garcia, I'm sure there numerous branches of Michels out there in Colima and Jalisco states, some of which are not closely related.

My family records also indicate there were Michel surnames in Jalisco well before the Franco intervention in Mexico in the mid 19th Century. The first mention of the Michel surname in a family history I have shows a Dona Regina Michel who passed on in "San Miguel" in 1796, which I believe is the same place as present day Ejutla. I assume these earlier Michels came to Mexico from Spain, but I don't know that for sure, or where in Spain they came from.

FYI, My last names are Garcia Michel, descended on my father's side from the Garcia family of Ejutla, Jalisco (Michel was his mother's maiden name). When he immigrated to the US he was given the last name Michel, but really, we are Garcias. My first name is Roberto. I live in Wisconsin. I had an Uncle named Roberto Michel as well. He married one of my aunts.

I am researching for my landlord who is the great grandson of Peter Michel who, according to the 1910 census, arrived in 1867 from Prussia (or Baden Wuertemburg, according to another researcher). Is this when your ancestor arrived? If so, then it is possible that this Peter, who settled in the Philadelphia area, is your missing kin.

My landlord's great-grandfather was Peter Michel (b. 1842). He arrived, according to the 1900 census, in 1867, at age 22. He was first married to Johanna (Eichner?) and lived in the Germantown area as well as Camden New Jersey before Johanna died. He was then married to Caroline and lived in the Egg Harbor area. He had two children with Johanna - they were Harry and Frank (born, I'm assuming, in Germantown). He had Alexander during his second marriage. Alexander remained in the Egg Harbor area and had daughters. My landlord's grandfather was Frank (b. 1874). His father was Thomas (b. 1913). Are these your family?

I have a question for both of you regarding the Egg Harbor Michel's. I am friends with a Tom Michel here in Gloucester City. His father is my landlord and I have been trying to do a bit of genealogy for him. My landlord's father was Thomas Ellison Michel. He was married to Matilda (don't recall last name). Thomas had sisters Elenor and Frances. Their father was Frank who was married to Carrie (supposedly, she was PA Dutch). Frank had a brother Harry (Harold). Frank's parents were born in Germany (Prussia?). Peter was first married to Johanna(Eichner?). He says he arrived in the US in 1867 and became a citizen in 1880. He was born ca. 1842. Later, Peter married Caroline and lived in Mullica Twp. They had son Alexander. According to a tree I found online, Alexander had all daughters, the last two who passed in January and February of this year. Is this the same family you are linked to? If so, do you have any other information?

My father was born in illinois and I have an uncle William that was born before him, I don't know where?
Hi, I was reading your post and it sounds very familiar to me. My last name is Michel and my father always told me a similar story of how the Michels arrived with French army in the 1800s, and some of those French soldiers stayed. When I started doing real genealogy research I discovered the Michel's had been living in Jalisco since the 1500s so my dads french connection didnt make sense. Although it is possible that other Michels did come to Mexico during the 1800s. Good luck with your research.
Hi Christina I read your post and I wanted to add some info. Ive done some research on our Michel ancestors all the way back to the conquest in 1519. You are correct there was a Juan Michel living in the 1500s. According to my records he was married to Graciana Corona. He was not the first Michel in Jalisco. His father was Cristobal de Ordonez born in Spain and son of the Conquistador Diego de San Martin who came with Hernan Cortez. Cristobal de Ordonez had a brother Juan Michel Ordonez(the original)who was a very famous knight conquistador of Jalisco and western Mexico. He took part in many Indian battles and was at the Guerra del Mixton severely wounded. He was one of the original 62 families to settle Guadalajara. In 1563 King Felipe of Spain granted Juan Michel Ordonez a coat of arms for his service. All the Michels of Jalisco are descendants of these 2 brothers. Most dont know this version of our family history, yet it is well documented in history books. Thanks Jose@ michelja2k@hotmail.com
