Thank you. This is helpful. I'm trying to pin down parents of Mathias Mick. Old family notes say Micks came from Holland to New Amsterdam early 1600s & that name was orig. Much (w/ an umlaut over u ). Does anyone have any info to support this idea??

I have been checking on Lucy Mick-the only conclusion I come up with -is that she is a daughter of Tobias and Elizabeth. I have sons's but not daughter's at this time because most only list sons because of the line.I would like to find out if you would know how to find out if there is a picture of them. I started a picture genealogy ablum-I have so far up to Charles Clinton Mick -son of one of the Mathias's.
Donna

I can't help you with Mathias Mick, but can tell you that Francis Marion Mick married Mary Jane Fisher. Here's the marriage record: http://www.wvculture.org/vrr/va_mcdetail.aspx?Id=10185816

Mary Jane was born Nov 28, 1875 to Millie Emmaline Fisher:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.2/9339-4QW/p2
Although the death record lists her father as A.G. (Armstead Gregory) Queen, I believe he was not her biological father.

For one thing, Mary Jane's 1897 marriage record shows her last name was Fisher, not Queen. Secondly, Millie married Armstead Queen in 1885; 10 years after Mary Jane was born. My guess is Mary Jane's bio dad was unknown, dead, or a real loser, so she came to consider Armstead Queen as her father. Not that he was much better.

Armstead Queen married Sarah Francis Price in 1867 and had 2 kids with her. By 1870 they were living apart, and starting in about 1871 he was having a relationship/shacking up with Mary Ann Caynor Toppin (my gggrandmother) and had 7 kids with her. The last one was born in March 1885. But Armstead had already moved on--since that same month his first of 8 children with Millie was born. He divorced his wife Sarah that year so he could marry Millie. Apparently Mary Ann Caynor Toppin and their 7 kids hadn't been worth divorcing over. A real winner, this guy was!

Now I have a question for you. Where do the nicknames Paddy & Molly come from? I haven't seen it documented anywhere.

Hope this helps!

--Lynne
Howard's younger brother Cyrus is my grandfather. His daughter Phyllis is my mother. So we are ... second cousins once removed? Something like that! We had a Liese mini-reunion in Lancaster, Massachusetts about 15 or 20 years ago (I can't believe it was that long ago!). Were you by any chance there? I have a list somewhere of people who attended - time to look for it, I think!

Charles served in the Civil War, and I have his pension papers. There are statements Anna made about their marriage in order to collection pension (which she did not, for some reason). She said she met Charles in St. Louis and they were married on Easter in 1858. The 1910 census says Anna immigrated to the US in 1853, but that is all I can find on her. She doesn't appear on any passenger lists! I found Charles listed as Karl Mick (his German name) and he came over on the Bark John Curtis in 1854, arriving in New Orleans in January and then making his way up the river to St. Louis. Somewhere in my notes I found Charles was from Baden and Anna from Bavaria - neighboring areas of the not yet unified Germany. I also found a Henry Mick in my searchings with dates and addresses that parallel Charles in St. Louis. I have added him to my tree as Charles' brother, but I have no connections yet. I just thought by looking at Henry I might find parentage, but no luck - so far!

My mother had told me that family lore had it that Matilda was disowned when she married Augustus. They lived in St. Louis for the first couple years of their marriage before moving back east, so I don't know if the moving away angered/hurt her parents, or what. I know the Lieses were Protestant - I went to the village of Ulfen where they emigrated from and took pictures of the church where they were married and Adam, their firstborn, was baptized. Since southern Germany (Bavaria especially) is predominately Catholic, I wonder if the Micks were Catholic and did not want their daughter to marry a Protestant. That's just a theory that could help find church records, maybe. Both Charles and Anna are buried at the Bellfountaine Cemetary but I have not yet written for records that might tell me religious information.

I just tried to invite you as an editor on my tree, but the connection didn't work. I'll try again later. I think this might allow you to see more of the information in the tree.

Do you have any pictures? I have a picture of Augustus and his daughter Belle, and then pictures of my grandfather, but no one else in the Liese family.

Enough babbling - it's good to find someone else looking for these people! Definitely stay in touch. One of these walls is bound to crack soon!

Thank you so much for replying! :) Matilda Mick would be my great great grandmother. Her son, Howard Sloat Liese, is my great grandfather. I have the Liese's traced back to Germany in the 1500s, but as you said, I hit a stone wall with Charles and Anna Mick. I actually think I got some of my information from you or someone else in the Goodwin family from looking up stuff on here. I don't pay for my account so I can't see the hints. I have Matilda's spouse, children, and siblings, and her parents and some dates, and a couple places but not much to go on. I think Charles was born in Prussia in 1834 and Anna born in Germany about 1832. I'm not quite sure what the difference in Prussia and Germany is, but that's what I have found. Which area of the family are you in? I don't think I can look at your family tree. Not unless I look up specific people, since I don't pay for ancestry, I always manage to get around the stuff that you have to pay for and figure out some other way to get the information. I'm really not sure how I have an account without paying, but thanks, and please stay in contact in case we discover anything.

Mathias Mick of Upshur County, WVa - father of Nicholas

There are so many conflicting "facts" posted on the WV Mick families, that I'm afraid some people are taking family legends and/or other people's public trees and assuming they are fact; I would love to hear from someone who has actual documentation for some of these lines.
I'm sure that Francis Marian/Marion "Paddy" Mick and Mary Jane "Molly" Queen are my great-grandparents (Their son Lawrence V. was my grandfather.)
Based on census records and info gathered directly from family members, I'm confident that Nicholas Mick (abt 1828-1898) and his second wife Jane L. Queen (1846-1912) were Francis's parents.
Based on census records and cemetery records, I'm pretty confident that Nicholas's parents were Mathias Mick and Mary Lambert. (Find a Grave lists Mary Lambert as the wife of Mathias, but I don't know if that was just the F-A-G person adding that info or if it's on the tombstone.)
After that, I see lots posted on Ancestry, but little documentation to prove anything. Most people say Mathias's parents were Mathias Mick and Lucinda Powers; some claim Edmund Mick and Mary Collett. Does anyone have any actual records or sources that discuss either of these? Some people's trees list ALL the Upshur County Micks as Matthias and Mary's children, but several posts on this site show them with other parents.
Also, does anyone know where people got the middle name "Neely" for Nicholas Mick?
Please help! Post here or e-mail me at tcurby@icsbudapest.org. Thanks!

I replied to this inquiry when it came via the rootsweb mailing list, but I see I need to post the reply here, as well, to keep this thread going. Augustus and Matilda Liese are my great-grandparents. I have been tracking my maternal line which also includes the Micks - Charles and Anna being Matilda's parents. While Civil War pension files fill in some of the gaps in family information, I have hit a stone wall at Charles and Anna. Lieses have been traced back to Germany. My tree here in Ancestry (Goodwin) has many details. So how are you connected? Maybe you can help dent if not break the wall!

Thanks for responding. I just learned that my Dads brother who is also named C.G. Mick has a coat of arms and family lineage book. We are going to try to a copy so I can enter the information. Sadly, my Dad never knew any of his father's side of the family. I wil ask him about Terry and see if it rings a bell. Sounds like it is right, ask your dad if C.G. Mick is the same that lived in Missouri, and is now passed away. C.G. Mick my grandfather had 3 sons with Betty Scott. Talk soon, Dafni

I did not figure out who ellis had married before he married my grandmother so I do not have your family on my tree. Do you have the name of ellis's first wife. I guess I can finally put your side on my tree. I would love to share information. I have the mick side of my tree down to the first micks here in the states.

I have noticed that years ago on this board a woman named Emma kept saying that she did a Mick newsletter about the many branches of micks. She said that her cousin in florida had the copies and she had given his address and phone number. I have tried the phone number and it has been disconnected or something. I was wondering if anyone has this newsletter. I really would like to have a copy of this to help my family figure out our past. I am Brittney Mick Hefley and my dad is terry mick, his dad was ellis e. mick, his dad was C.w. mick and so on. If you have any info please let me know. Thanks

Charles Mick Sr. Grandparents?

I think my eye balls are about to fall out because I have been staring at this screen for too long trying to figure this out. I have on my tree a few sets of Charles Mick. I have one born in 1804 married to sarah pankey then a Charles mick (who I think is the first charle's dad) who was born in 1772 and married to an elizabeth lambert. That seems to make sense to me but I'm having issues with Charles Sr. parents. I have a Jacob Mick born in 1740 in germany married to Mary F. I just came across these 2 names and I don't know if they are right. I don't even know what F. stands for. If anyone has this line of micks can you tell me if I'm on the right track. It is basically eatting at my soul. thanks

Looking further it appears that Charles parents may be Robert Mick and Mary Ann Hedrick who married Aug 22 1858 in Tippecanoe, Indiana. They had other children who married in Iowa also; Quinnetta Mick (b abt 1859 Indiana),Lizzie E. (b. abt 1873), George B. (b.abt 1862 Indiana).
Hope that is the right family.

Does anybody know?

Father: Absalom Mick
mother: Jane Wyatt

I found Culumbia M A Mick in 1880 Census but there was no listing of her in the 1900 Census.
I found Mahulda Mick in the book History of Tucker County by Hu Maxwell

Thanks
Holly

Don't have those names in my tree, but my Micks come from that area. I actually descend from two different Micks and I am not sure how (or if) they were related. The farthest back I have been able to go is
Daniel Mick (1808-1880) m. Susannah Cunningham
and
Jonathan Mick (1807-1899) m. Mary White (1st wife)

Daniel's son, Robert R. Mick married Jonathan's daughter, Sarah Ann Mick.

They were living in the Brooks county area of WV, but left that area in the 1840s for Illinois.

Here are the response I had from the Pendleton County genealogy website:
Read what others had to say:

Sandra Pope - Jun 17, 2010 Viewers | Reply to this item Barbara, I'm unable to help you with the photo but thought you might be interested to know that the Mick Homestead and cemetery was 1 of 6 surveys that were registered with the State Historic Preservation Office when FSHEA started doing the surveys. It was done by the Dept. of Hwys and only included the topo map and site ID # PD156. Solomon is buried in John Mick Family Cemetery #34 (1977 GR, pg 22). The information given is that Solomon (July 18, 1855-Mar 17, 1918) is the father of John K.
Mick (Apr. 2, 1876-Apr. 5, 1949). There are no updates to this information. The birthdate of Solomon's daughter Margie Mick Grogg is given as Sept. 9, 1899-Oct. 1, 1938. Has anyone been to this cemetery to verify the information & to get a GPS reading with photos? If not, would you or other descendants be interested working with FSHEA to do a cemetery identification survey?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Glenn Huffman - Jun 17, 2010 Viewers | Reply to this item John Mick who was in the war was a brother to Solomon (1855-1918) and they were sons of Sampson Mick, if I remember correctly
