Hi. Thanks for the info. The William E. Middaugh I'm looking for was born 1842 in New York. His parents were Isaac and Esther Middaugh. They settled in Coldwater, MI. He married Lavern Cuddeback in 1881, in Paw Paw, MI. They had five children: Roscoe, Fern, Dennis, William and Lyla. Lyla died at 2 years of age. William E. died in an awful sawmill accident, in Cadillac Michigan, in 1894. Dennis was my maternal grandfather; he was born 1890 in Jennings, MI, and died in Paw Paw, MI, in 1941.

Do you have a birthdate for this person? Or anymore information about him? There are so many William Middaughs, that we can't tell which one you are talking about. My great grandfather is William E. Middaugh, but he died in 1894.

I have been looking for the where abouts of Rebecca Jane (Richards) Middaugh (abt. 1856) since she disappeared sometime after recording a birth of dau Laura Ethel 18 Jul 1884 in Cameron, MO. Prior to that time Rebecca had several childern (Hattie, Josie (my grandmother), Frankie and maybe more that did not survive) by Joseph Allen Middaugh (15 May 1848). I also cannot locate her dau Laura Ethel after that time.
I am assuming Rebecca died sometime after that birth as Joseph dropped his two surviving daugthers off at his brother's (Sammuel and Enoch)and went by himself to start a new family in Texas.
My main goal is to find out what happened to Rebecca and where she & Laura went or are? (Laura has a cousin name Laura Ellen, dau of Joseph's brother Sammuel, so don't get confused when looking at records).
Thank you for whatever information you can provide.
Gary

Thank you for this most recent and valuable info on the children.

- It turns out that we had already set up this family in our records (we show a Norman rather than a Raymond; could these be double given names?), but without any idea of their parents. We had assembled our limited data from info obtained from obituaries of Roy Victor Medaugh and Luverne Medaugh McMichael.

- All that remains now is for us to expand the data on all 7 children and their respective families. Would you be able to help us in this regard?

- We would be pleased to share any other data we have on Reuben's upward line, if required.

GM
Unfortunately no family info.

- Only that, at age 13 yrs was recorded in the 1901 census for Melancthon Twnsp Grey Cnty ON.

- another cousin, Don Wardell, indicates: Reuben went out west (to farm) as a young man and did not return.

GM

The only thing I know is they were from Ontario and Reuben married his cousin Catherine Watts . Do you show a Watts connection to the Middaughs .She would have been born around 1890. If I could find that connection then I likely could prove his history and for sure who these 6 brothers were.

Altho I cannot comment on the authenticity of the photo, if it is a photo of the sons of Adolphus and Margaret Stewart Middaugh, the subjects would be:

Thomas Arthur, John Leslie, Reuben, William Willis, Merle Ray and Lorne D Stuart/Stewart.

- Adolphus would be the son of George and Mary Ann Rogers/Rodgers Middaugh.

- All this being said, this Reuben would then be my Grt Grand uncle.

- The family can be traced back to 1480, Netherlands.

GM

This is from: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&d...

Maybe it will provide some leads. I have been researching this family for nearly a year, and, unfortunately, there is almost no documentation other than histories and family trees. Good luck!

John 10 MIDDAGH (Peter, Jr.9 ) was born 12 May 1779 in Lower Mt. Bethel Township, Northampton, PA. John died 18 Dec 1869 in Perry, OH, and was buried in the Otterbein United Brethren Church Cemetery in Perry, OH.
John and Margaret moved to Perry County OH in 1806/7. Settled on and bought the NW 1/4 of Sec. 31, T 16, R16 of Perry/Fairfield County, OH. John served as a Lieutenant in Second Regiment of the Ohio Militia during the War of 1812. John and his family are listed in the Perry County, OH census for 1830. On the 1846 Plat map of Perry County, John is shown as owning Section 5 and Section 8 of Jackson Township. On page 263 of "The History of Fairfield and Perry Counties, Ohio"
compiled by A.A. Graham and published by Beers in 1888, John is listed as a voter in what is now Perry County in 1816 and 1817. In the lists of elected officials of Fairfield/Perry County on pages 265-267, John is listed as a constable in 1814,1815,1816 and collector of the Poor Tax in 1817. On Page 50 he is listed as a County Commissioner in 1833
He married Margaret VANATTA 22 Oct 1801 in New Jersey. John and Margaret were married by the pastor of the First (German) Reformed Church of East on. John and Margaret 's marriage is recorded in the Record Book of the First Reformed Church of Easton, PA. While they were married by the pastor of the Easton church, it is believed the ceremony took place in New Jersey. John's surname is recorded as MEDAG. No surname was given for Margaret. She was born 13 Jul 1783 in Oxford. Sussex, NJ. Margaret died 27 Apr 1850 in Perry, OH, and was buried in the Otterbein United Brethren Church Cemetery in Perry, OH.
Information on the parents of Margaret were extracted from an article by Cameron Allen. See Page 96, Volume 32 of "The Detroit Society for Genealogical Research".April 1817 At an election held in the township of Reading, Fairfield County, Ohio the following township offers were elected on the first Monday of April 1817, Constable John Middaugh.
William E. Middaugh

I am posting the contents of a newspaper article, printed in a local Cadillac, Michigan newpaper, in March of 1897. The article reads:

"Wm. Meddaugh, who was formerly a resident of Manton and at one time engaged in the meat market business with Beyers and Gates, was killed in Mitchell Brothers mill at Jenning, last week Tuesday. Meddaugh was putting in a shaft while the mill was in operation, when his clothing caught on a set screw attached to the live rollers beneath the edges. When the machinery was stopped and he was taken out by his brother he represented a pitiful sight with the clothing torn from the body and the bones in the leg protruding through the flesh and skin. He was taken to his home where he died five hours later, remaining perfectly conscious to the last. The remains were interred at Cadillac. He leaves a wife and four children, the oldest fourteen years old and the youngest six. Mr. Meddaugh assisted in building the mill at Bond's siding, sixteen years ago, where he remained for some time as head sawyer. He had thrice moved to and from Jennings."

William was married to Lavern Cuddeback, daughter of Hanford and Maria Cuddeback. William and Lavern had 5 children: Roscoe, Fern, Dennis, William, and Lyla, who died at the age of 2 years old.

Hello,

I read your message below regarding Elizabeth and Simon Hopson. I am a direct descendant of Simon. I cannot find anything concrete as to who his father was. I would be interested to know what belongings were auctioned, as well.
I realize the message is 6 1/2 years old, but I just started my tracings about a year ago.
I hope I am not intruding by asking, but I know Robert had a son named Nathaniel Pierce, and he had a son named Alfred Lee, who had a son named Noah Lee, who was my great-grandfather.
Any assistance you may part with would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,

Phillip Hopson
Amarillo, TX

I have a Dutch New Testament & Psalms in which she wrote her name, Catheline Middagh Her Book, and the above birthday as hers. Several other names mentioned in notes in the Bible are George W. Albertson of Rochester MI and Mr. A.J. Van Atta of Waverly NY as well as a label from his son John C. Van Atta a druggist in Waverly NY. In pencil inside the back cover is written in cursive William Smith (looks as though it was a child practicing).

Hi - I am trying to find any information on Eliza Middaugh. She was born about 1806 somewhere in New York. Best evidence points to Tompkins or Ulster Counties. She married Alanson Davenport in 1827, again probably in Tompkins County, NY. I have 10 children listed for them. I know that one son, George Martin Davenport, was born in Slaterville, Tompkins County, NY (1828). They then moved to Ohio where Eliza died in ~1879.

I have no information on Eliza's parents or siblings. Any help is much appreciated.
John's father was John Henry Middaugh, therefore the Henry that is listed as John Daniel DeSilvia's father. I have no idea where Emma Yoder came from, but that is what's listed on one of the DC's/obits.

I believe that the children you have for John H and Phoebe Anna "Annie" Swoveland are correct.

Genealogy--General Surnames

Go to Interent Archive and type in The New York Genealogical and Biographical Record. Lots of Surnames.

And you will find tons of info. For example: Dutch Reformed Church records some dating around mid 1600's (some of the surnames are in Dutch)-- burials, etc. I'd say around 40 hits. Not just NY, but NJ- Pa-Mass.-Michigan-Long Island-etc.

Happy Hunting,

Pat
