Scott's Pottery Southwick - William Milburn 1771

Hello,
I have recently discovered my 4th great grandfather was William Milburn. He was born 1771 (or 1774) and was a master potter at Scott's Pottery Southwick. He married a Miriam Arrowsmith.
As I am a keen potter also I am keen to learn more about William. If anyone can help me I would be happy to hear from you. If you can tell me more about anything to do with the pottery, Sunderland Lusterwear or William Milburn/Miriam Arrowsmith.
Thanks
Sally

It was based on a strong millennium message, they hoped to reform Parliament and the government for the imminent coming of Christ's' Kingdom on Earth.

George Turfrey. William married a Susanna Turfey. coincidence?

From http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~bmuwgw/ships2.html

Mary ( Ship )
Att a councell table held att St Georges, April ye 28th 1686. Whereas it was proposed by his Excelly ye Gov that Mr Geo. Turfry, Master of ye sloop Mary caried off and transported divers persons contrary to his bonds, from Bermudas without their ticketts. Viz Willm Milbourne, John Hunt, Chr Colson, Chr Robinson, Charles Davis, Samll Smith, as by Richd Gilbert, Junr, master of ye said sloop and others did there appear some of which persons aforesaid were indebted in ye said Island, it was therefore voted by his Excell.y & Councell that ye said Geo Turfry's bond should be sued and his effects attacht to a legal tryall. (BHQ)

In summary, William Milbourne fled Bermuda in fear of imprisonment for his religious beliefs. He was transported to New England onboard the ship "Mary" by Captain George Turfey. The above mentioned councel met on Apr 28, 1686. Yet it has been established that a certain William Milbourne had children with his wife Hannah? in Boston during the years 1680-1684. In addition there was a William Milbourne that married Jane Pierce, widow of Richard Pierce. In Bermuda in this time frame.

Moerover http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/j/e/n/Christina-J... reports that Fridesweed Smith married a William Milbourne. In Bermuda.

Perplexed?
Fridesweed Smith married a William Milbourne in Bermuda. She
was a daughter of Thomas Smith and Fridesweed Harvey.
William Milbourne married Jane Pierce, widow of Richard Pierce. In Bermuda.
William Milbourne had children with Hannah? in Boston.
William Milbourne married Susanna Turfey and had children in Boston.

2 different William Milbournes? Are they related?

There was a certain William Milbourne that had two brothers, Joseph Milbourne and Jacob Milbourne. From Bermuda settlers of the 17th century: genealogical notes from Bermuda By Julia E. Mercer:

Will of Joseph Milbourne of Devonshire tribe 20 Aug 1692:
1st I do order that all my just debts be fully satisfied what are set down in a little paper book with a browne paper cover bearing date 14th August. Well beloved wife JANE whole estate for life and then for two sons WILLIAM AND JACOB. Honoured Mother Mrs. ANN MILBOURNE in the realm of England what money she hath received of mine and I do order that 20 lbs. weight of sparmacety I have
be sent home to her every year so long as she shall live and so long as there be any remaining. Two sisters in England, Abigail and Maria 30 pounds which I ordered to be paid to them if Mr. BENJAMIN STOW safely arrive with his fraight in London who went hence about 15th April last. If two sons die before possessing estate, then half of theirs to wife and 1/2 to mother or to brother. WILLIAM MILBOURNE and 3 sisters: ANN EWITS, ABIGAIL, AND MARIA . Son-in-law ( stepson ) FLORENTIUS COX and trusty friend WILLIAM
CUMBER 20/- each to buy a ring and they with wife to be Excrs. and Overseer. The will was not witnessed but on Feb. 23, 1715/16 HENRY TUCKER of Warwick, DANIEL TUCKER and JOHN COX both of St. George swore to the handwriting.

No mention of a mother named Phoebe.

This from ROTTERDAM-MANHATTAN CONNECTIONS:THE INFLUENCE OF ROTTERDAM THINKERS UPON NEW YORK'S 1689 LEISLERIANS MOVEMENT by DOOR DAVID WILLIAM VOORHEES
circulating within this community were a number of New Yorkers who would play a prominent role in the 1689 uprising.Foremost was Jacob Milborne, who became Jacob Leisler's chief aide and, in 1691, his son-in-law. Milborne was a member of a radical English dissenting family. His father, William Milborne, had been one of the 'Fanatiks of East Sheen', and his brother, William Jr., was the notorious 'Fifth Monarchist' Bermuda councilor. Jacob Milborne spent the years 1686-1689 overseeing business interests from Rotterdam. There he may have served as an agitator for the Prince of Orange, for in 1688 Benjamin Furly made a number of depositions,'at the request of Jacob Milborne', complaining against King James Us trade policies.^ In February 1689 Milborne's father-in-law, Samuel Edsall, and brother-in-law, James Evetts, joined Milborne in Rotter-dam. Edsall returned to New York to lead rebellion there three months later. Milborne would return to New York City to become a leading figure in the rebellion the following August.

His father, William Milborne, had been one of the 'Fanatiks of East Sheen', and his brother, William Jr., was the notorious 'Fifth Monarchist' Bermuda councilor. According to this author Jacob Milbourne and William Milbourne's father was not the Rev. Luke Milbourne b. 1622.

Joseph Milbourne a brother to William and Jacob did not name a mother Phoebe in his will.

I am a lineal descendant of John Milbourn b. 1705 and a husband to Elizabeth Chapman. They were members of the Friendly Society in Haddonfield Meeting (Camden, NJ).

I have seen it stated by a host of genealogical researchers that Andrew Milborn was the father of John Milbourn. This Andrew Milborn was born anywhere from 1651-1661. And in many instances his mother has been attributed to Susanna Turfey. Yet Susanna Turfey and William Milborne's first child was born April 28, 1687

I have seen Andrew Milborn's ancestry traced to Rev Luke Milbourne b. 1622 and have doubts about that. Can anyone offer any verifiable evidence to substantiate such a claim?

Does Teresa Milburn mention a half sister Susan Catherine Milburn that married Nathaniel Holley? I see where Henry B. Milburn was married twice, first to Patsy JOhnson March 7, 1821 St. Landry P. LA. In 1850 Henry Milburn age 24 is living with widow of H.B. Milburn and her children in Avoyelles P. La. I am assuming this is the son of his first marriage.

After searching for this one for a while and other members of my family searching before me the most likely candidate for his father seems to be David Milburn 1795-1830 who was married to a Polly McCarthy. This does not exactly match the story his wife later gave of him leaving home after his father remarried but I wonder if she got it backwards and the mother remarried.

David Milburn born Ky about 1829

I am trying to find David Milburn's parents. According to the records i've found he was born in Ky. 14 Oct. 1829, (I know dates can be off a bit). According to a published interview with his wife in the late 1800s, when he was in his teens, his mother died, his father remarried, he did not get along with his step-mother, so he left home. He never returned and his wife never knew his people. In 1850, he was living in a boarding house in Morgan Co., Ill. In that county, in 1851, he married Eliza J. Huffaker.

I would appreciate any help. I imagine he could be listed as born about 1830.

Thanks, Colton

William Milburn, Lemington, Newcastle upon Tyne

I am trying to find out any info on my late grandfather William Milburn who I never met. He married my grandmother Nora Dowthwaite in Newcastle in 1932 and they had one son, my father who was born in 1934, they divorced in 1947. My Grandmother remarried. Both my grandmother and my father have passed away and I have no information on my biological grandfather or his ancestors. I beleive that William Milburn had a butchers shop in Lemington, Newcastle upon Tyne and he died in the 1970's or early 80's. If anyone has any info I would be grateful if they could get in touch.

Thanks

Mark

Hello

I am looking for the parents of my great great grandfather John Smith Milburn. I have his birth certificate dated 18 November 1839 naming his mother as Ann Milburn but no father and his marriage certificate to Mary Jane Scott dated 7 March 1862 naming his father as Philip Milburn deceased but am unable to trace either of his parents. The only Philip Milburn in Durham in 1851 census is named as having a wife called Mary although he does have a son John of the correct age. Can anyone help

thanks

Anne

The gentleman who took the photos of the headstones sent me his originals to send to you. He thought you may want them (larger sizes) for your use. If you want these, email me at sherry.hightower@hotmail.com and I will send these to you. Once you get registered on Find A Grave, send me your member # and I'll transfer the memorials to you so you can edit and link them as you wish.

Good luck.

Sherry
www.texashistoryhunter.net

My guess is this is Charles Edward Milburn, born 20 Aug 1882 in Missouri, who according to my information died in a horrific car accident while still fairly young. The date of 1920 would make sense for this as he left a wife and three children. I did not have the date of death, however.

Thank you again for this information. I will post more information on the memorials when I get the chance. Thank you again for bringing this website to my attention. It seems like I had seen it a while ago, but it has really grown since the time I saw it.

Sincerely,
Anne

My descendancy:

David Milburn m.Nancy McCarty
. . John Wesley Milburn m.Eliza Gilpin
. . . . Lizzie Frances Milburn m.George Washington Barnes
. . . . . . Naomi Barnes (1915-1987) m.Richard Harrod (1904-1984)

Nancy died 1924 and presumed buried at Eastern State Hospital
in Lexington,Ky (only a few stones exist for an estimated 16000 burials).
David apparently died bef 1875 as Nancy is shown in 1880 Census in the community of Goodnight in Anderson Co,Ky with 5 yr old son Edward.

Would like to know where David, John Wesley and Eliza are buried.
John's death certificate says Best Cemetery in Anderson Co,Ky, but I've not seen their stones there.

I also would like to locate the places they lived. Maybe when I retire I can go thru deeds for Anderson and adjacent counties.

Thanks to everyone here for sharing.

Milburn - Selheim and Home Hill

Hi,
I decided to release this Data, possibly to help someone else, who may be seeing this Family, but also to "lift" the Profile of the particular Family Milburn, in Queensland. Naturally also to see if we ca get back to the oldest Ancestors else where.

The Milburn's are probably better know to the many, perhaps on the south side of the Burdekin River in Home Hill. The Milburn's were "ALWAYS", one of those very, Forever, Beloved Families. With not a bad one amongst the entire Family !

Selheim, for those who don't know was a small Township way back when, that was nestled on the Western Side of the Banks of the Burdekin River. You turned in to the right when traveling to Charters Towers. It was also an Australian Army Bivouac and Training Area.

HERE IS WHAT I HAVE COLLECTED TOGETHER ON THE MILBURN FAMILY ....

SIBLINGS...

1894/C6001 Milburn	James William Margaret O'Connor

1892/C7360 Milburn	William William Margaret O'Connors

1907/C7281 Milburn	Theresa William Margaret Maria Theresa O'Connor

1891/C6645 Milburn	Honora Mary	William Margaret Connors

1904/C6854 Milburn	Sydney William Margaret O'Connor

1902/C6730 Milburn	Thomas Francis	William Margaret O'Connors

1900/C7027 Milburn	Timothy William Margaret O'Connor

1889/C6122 Milburn	Edward William Margaret O'Connors

1888/C4789 Milburn	Robert William Margaret Maria O'Connor

1899/C6151 Milburn	Johannah	William Margaret O'Connor

1895/C6966 Milburn	John David	William Margaret O'Connor

1897/C6533 Milburn	Margaret	William Margaret O'Connor

There are a collection of My Beloved Milburn Family Buried in the Home Hill General Grave Yard. I already have pics of their Headstones.

We will get to "where" the direct Couper Link is in a little while.

Here's is one connection of at least two...

Here's but one of our Milburn Connections involving a Marriage

MARRIAGE OF..........

1926/C2018 Milburn Theresa	Hollingsworth	Arthur Denton Frederick

NOTE : It is already known and Documented that the Milburn Family began with it's Seat in >>>"Northumberland" County<<< England from early times !

Please see attachments to my Reply Posts, the very direct Couper Connection I'll try to put in my last reply, ancestry receiving server permitting.

This attachment to this topic post feature Our Own Known, William and Margaret Milburn in Sellheim North Queensland, Australia. Our Margaret's Full Name was Margaret Maria Theresa Milburn NEE O'Connor. They are listed in the Australian Electoral Roll for Sellheim from 1903 right through to 1913.

There Beloved Son better known to the many Affectionately Called "Tim" [Timothy] is the Direct Connection to Our Couper Family in Australia. Our other known Close Connects are a small tangle up but known are Warren and Gibson, with Gibson connecting us together yet again. We'll leave all that for another day and other Topic Posts.

It would be nice think we could find every single connection and all prior Ancestors back to the Milburn beginnings. But even one, "New Ancestor", prior Unknown is a Total Blessing.

If you have any information on the Prior Ancestors of my North Queensland Milburn Family, Please Feel Free to Post a Reply, to this Topic Post. Many Thanks in Advance.

regard to you all,
pop john
